Smile on Saturday: Tabletop Game Components

When i read the theme for the next Smile on Saturday Challenge then instantly Memories of my childhood came up. I don`t know how many Hours my friends an me have spent playing this great Game called RISK ! The Game is well known around the world and gets played since over 60 Years by Generations. Back in 1957 it got created by Albert Lamorisse, a french filmmaker. I still own the Game and we play it from time to time when we celebate game nights. So i took the chance to shoot an image of my DE LUXE Version of the Game for the theme quite a while ago.

Risk is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six continents. Turns rotate among players who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls. Players may form and dissolve alliances during the course of the game. The goal of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and, in doing so, eliminate the other players. The game can be lengthy, requiring several hours to multiple days to finish. European versions are structured so that each player has a limited "secret mission" objective that shortens the game.

The beauty here arises from the interplay of perfectly normal physical and biological processes:

Sunlight is scattered by the moist morning air. Tiny water droplets in the mist primarily deflect the short-wavelength components of the light, while warm, yellow-gold light remains dominant. This creates the soft rays and the warm color palette. At the same time, leaves, grass, and water absorb and reflect light differently, creating contrasts and depth.

Our brains perceive this as "beautiful" because they have an evolutionarily positive response to patterns such as smooth transitions, natural symmetries, and color harmonies—for millions of years, these signaled safe, life-friendly environments.

In short: Physics shapes the light, biology shapes the landscape, and our brains create beauty from it.

A few things that would go into a bowl of cold cereal for hot summer mornings, Craisins, Shredded Wheat, and Fiber One, (not shown optional) walnuts or almonds and honey, yeah and of course the milk too, to finish it out with.

Focus stack (8) of some dominos for Smile on Saturday's Tabletop Game Components

"Right now, my focus is on British complicity in Israel's genocide. Britain continues to sell crucial components for Israel's F35 jets, which are slaughtering the people of Gaza.

Israeli soldiers are trained on British soil, and British nationals freely serve in the IDF while it commits heinous war crimes. Britain shares intelligence with Israel, flies RAF surveillance jets over Gaza. Annual trade between the two countries is worth £6bn a year - with Britain refusing to impose sweeping sanctions." - Owen Jones - www.owenjones.news/p/labour-just-banned-me?utm_campaign=p... ▪️ "When I tried to challenge [Emily] Thornberry, she tried the classic politician’s tactic of filibustering rather than answering the question. She then claimed she had only been supporting a temporary siege, admitting her position was a “mistake” - the first regret I’ve heard her expressed about what she said - and claiming that she had been told in confidence that Israel would only mount a limited Entebbe-style raid to rescue the hostages.

This was despite Israeli leaders and officials making clear their genocidal intent from day one, as I wrote at the time. She refused to say who told her this - and the claim that someone of influence was lying to British shadow ministers about Israel’s intentions is clearly newsworthy. She refused to divulge who, but a functioning media would try and investigate what she was talking about." Owen Jones▪️▪️▪️▪️HOLY GHOST ZONE, Blackpool

Cherry Street North Bridge

As part of the $1.25-billion Port Lands Flood Protection project, Waterfront Toronto will install four new bridges. Two of these bridges will cross the Keating Channel south of Lake Shore Boulevard at the location of New Cherry Street, which will be built west of the existing Cherry Street. The first of these Cherry North Bridges is leaving Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for Toronto in October 2020.

About the Cherry North Bridge

• The Cherry North bridge arriving in November weighs 340 tonnes and measures 57 metres long

• The cost for all four bridges is $100 million

• The bridges were designed and engineered by Entuitive, Grimshaw and Schlaich Bergermann

• After an open procurement process, Halifax-based Cherubini Metal Works won the contract to fabricate the bridges. Some specialized work was also done in the Netherlands by a firm called CGI. Specifically, 3D bending of steel plates, which is something only a limited number of firms do

• The steel is Canadian with the exception of the 3D shell components

• The steel bridges are being painted white, each with a distinctive colour on the interior to contrast with the white exterior and accentuate the bridges’ curves

• Bridges will be delivered by barge in large sections and assembled on site in the Port Lands

The three components that comprise a jaw coupling, sometimes also referred to by the brand name shown in the picture, used to attach a motor to a driven device, typically in industrial equipment.

The design of this coupling offers a means of shock and vibration absorption through the rubber spider used to join the two hubs. Selling each hub separately allows mixing and matching shaft sizes as circumstances require, within reasonable limits.

Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, England, over the River Thames. It is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It has become an iconic symbol of London.

The bridge consists of two towers which are tied together at the upper level by means of two horizontal walkways which are designed to withstand the horizontal forces exerted by the suspended sections of the bridge on the landward sides of the towers. The vertical component of the forces in the suspended sections and the vertical reactions of the two walkways are carried by the two robust towers. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower. The bridge's present colour dates from 1977 when it was painted red, white and blue for the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

Metal KPRK radio rotunda, iconic Livingston symbol removed

Dan Astin Enterprise Staff Writer Dec 1, 2023

The faux stylized radio tower spire, an iconic symbol of KPRK radio and Livingston, was removed on Thursday, as part an ongoing construction project, restoring the derelict broadcasting building and grounds to their formal glory.

In reference to the rotunda's temporary removal during restoration, Andrew Feltenstein, owner of Moleo Media Group, a limited liability company, which is the site's property owner, said "We can't save everything, but we will be putting the rotunda back up."

Juston Gougeon, founder and vice president of operations for Basecamp Construction, the contractor responsible for the restoration, inferred rehabbing the radio station, which has been abandoned for over a decade, will have different challenges, in order to preserve the station's unique exterior architecture.

As part of preserving the building as a public business for the future, steel beams and hydraulics will need to lift the entire structure above the Yellowstone River flood-plane.

The nearly 80 year old structure will have to be brought up to Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility specifications, with all components of the building's infrastructure modernized, without altering the exterior.

An outdoor amphitheater for music events is a planned edition to the rear of the property.

The contractor explained finishing the restoration project, which will be assisted in-part through historic preservation tax credits, will be worth it in the end.

"There's going to be a lot of money invested in Livingston in the next 10 years. Andrew's passion for this project is contagious and Basecamp Construction is excited to be a part of the restoration of one of Livingston's most iconic buildings," said Gougeon.

PT&P custom designed seventy-eight figure 2000 heavy duty pipe saddles for two 24" insulated ductile iron pipelines. The two pipelines are routed beneath a 650' bridge crossing over a river in upper New York State. The insulation is 3" thick with high density polyethylene jacketing. Axial movements due to expansion can approach 3". In order for the jacketing to avoid being damaged when displacements occur, the saddles have been lined with polished stainless steel.
