The next parish to Winterbourne, giving its name to the M4/M5 interchange, so admired by holidaymakers in the Summer that they stop for ages to view its component parts, although I suspect not by choice! This is one of my favourite SGlos churches, and as ever the church was open. OK it is not as "isolated" as Winterbourne, but a completely different attitude, and a lady was busy refreshing the floral displays and welcoming. She left shortly afterwards leaving me too it. There have been changes since I was last here, but all done in sympathy with the building. The church stands in what is called now Lower Almondsbury, as there is much Almondsbury high above spire level on the A38. The church shouldn't work, but it does, cruciform and grouped around a central tower with a leaded spire, because the nave and aisles are late Georgian of 1836 by Thomas Fulljames, a hall church each with their own seperate hammerbeam roofs and sturdy arcades on tall circular columns. His too the tripartite traceried screen in the west crossing arch. Both transepts are screened off, the north to form a vestry behind the organ, the south by glazed screens to create a small flexible space. Both transepts have large monuments, the north hidden behind stacking chairs a standing monument to Thomas Chester d1763 with a mourning female and lengthy inscription listing his ancestory since 1600, the south a tomb chest with effigies and heavy canopy carried on eight columns to Edward Veele d1577 and wife. And finally there is the chancel, a beautiful vaulted room EE with good quality stiff-leaf capitals and head corbels to carry the shafts that support the vault. All restored it may be but it impresses me every time I see it.

La Geloso è una compagnia, fondata nel 1931 da John Geloso, produttrice di radio, televisori, amplificatori acustici, ricevitori amatoriali, apparecchi audio e componentistica elettronica che aveva sede a Milano.
Nel 1931 iniziò a produrre non solo radioricevitori ma anche, per scelta di John Geloso stesso, gran parte dei componenti elettronici con cui questi erano costruiti, e nel tempo sviluppandone e brevettandone anche molti altri.
Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, la Geloso si espanse ed ampliò la sua produzione divenendo dal 1950 in poi un vero e proprio punto di riferimento dell'industria nazionale e degli appassionati e hobbysti di elettronica.
I tanti prodotti con il marchio Geloso erano conosciuti in tutta Italia e molto apprezzati anche all'estero. Si trattava di prodotti innovativi, di ottima qualità , ben realizzati e dal prezzo contenuto. La produzione imponente spaziava dai radioricevitori, amplificatori, registratori a nastro, televisori, scatole di montaggio, strumentistica professionale da laboratorio ecc, ma anche componenti come condensatori, resistenze, potenziometri, deviatori, connettori, trasformatori, microfoni, filofoni, ecc.

MOSE - Floodgates and components of the Venetian Lagoon project
Venice is under serious threat due to the rise in sea level and sinking of land at an alarming rate. The MOSE project will protect the Venetian Lagoon from being submerged by the Adriatic Sea and protect the famous city of Venice and the neighbouring areas from flooding. It is expected to be operational by 2014. MOSE, the Italian word for Moses, is an acronym for Modulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico, which means Experimental Electromechanical Module. The name aptly alludes to the story of Moses parting the Red Sea. The project will prevent flooding through the installation of 78 mobile gates at three inlets, namely Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia, which will separate the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. The MOSE project also includes strengthening of the coastal areas, raising the quaysides and paving of the city. he first environmental impact study was accepted in 1998 and was improved in 2002. The construction work on the project began in 2003. As of June 2012, 75% of the work at the site has been completed. The project is expected to be fully completed by 2014.
A total of 78 mobile gates are being laid at the bottom of the seabed as part of the MOSE project. They are 28 m long, 20 m wide and will weigh 300 t. The mobile gates being laid at the bottom of the inlet channel are supported by steel and concrete pilings, measuring 500 mm in diameter and 20 m in length, driven into the lagoon bed.
The floodgates consist of a metal box structure. Compressed air is pumped into the structure when a tide of more than 1,10 m height is expected. The air will rise up the barriers to the surface of the water to block the flow of the tide and prevent water from flowing into the lagoon. Floodgates are hollowed at the bottom, to allow the blowing of compressed air. They will be filled with water and lowered into the seabed when there is no harm of flooding. The floodgates at each inlet will function independently depending on the force of the tide expected.
The Optoelectronic Component and Materials Laboratories (or OCM Labs) is a collection of graduate students, post doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and research staff who are engaged in investigating an enormous variety of phenomena and devices related to electronic materials and optics. Some of the work involves the basic physics of new semiconductor and organic materials, some focuses on devices using these materials, and yet other work looks at the system impact of optical devices and structures. The unifying goal of our work is the realization of practical optoelectronic devices.
