Landgoed De Peerdegaerdt doet net als vorig jaar mee aan NLdoet, een van de grootste vrijwilligersacties van Nederland georganiseerd door het Oranje Fonds, samen met duizenden andere organisaties in het land. NLdoet en de Peerdegaerdt zetten vrijwillige inzet in de spotlights en stimuleren iedereen om een dag de handen uit de mouwen te steken.
Het landschap kan niet zonder vrijwilligers. Per jaar werken vrijwilligers bijna een miljoen uur aan behoud, beheer en ontwikkeling van het Nederlandse landschap. Maar hun waarde laat zich niet alleen in geld en uren uitdrukken. Vrijwilligerswerk heeft ook een sociale component, het draagt bij aan de betrokkenheid en zorgt voor draagvlak. Daarnaast verbetert het de toegankelijkheid en recreatieve waarde van het landschap.
Hèlen Sturm van De Peerdegaerdt vertelt enthousiast “dit jaar staat in het teken van de realisatie van onze ecologische moestuin, alle hulp hierbij kunnen we goed gebruiken. Voor De Peerdegaerdt is NLdoet een goede gelegenheid om met een grote groep mensen extra werk te verzetten. De vaste medewerkers en vrijwilligers komen hier normaal niet aan toe. Ook komen nieuwe mensen in contact met elkaar en De Peerdegaerdt. We hopen natuurlijk dat we deze mensen een mooie beleving kunnen geven en dat ze zo positief zijn dat ze vaker een dagje vrijwilligerswerk willen doen”. Tijdens NLdoet kan de jeugd ook op De Peerdegaerdt terecht voor hun maatschappelijke stage.
Klus: realiseren ecologische moestuin tijdens NL Doet 11 maart 2017
De moestuin bevindt zich op het Strijense landgoed van 7 hectare groot, centraal gelegen in het rustieke Hoeksche Waard. Naast dat de zorg- en activiteiten boerderij van De Peerdegaerdt een plek is waar mensen en dieren de natuur harmonieus kunnen beleven, transformeert De Peerdegaerdt zich ook langzaam naar een voedsellandgoed. Dit jaar wordt er gestart met het inrichten van een ecologische moestuin van 2.500m² gebaseerd op permacultuur, mogelijk gemaakt door de provincie Zuid-Holland.
Gerrit Roukens, tuinmeester van De Peerdegaerdt vertelt enthousiast: "We kunnen zo veel mogelijk hulp gebruiken! Het doel is uiteindelijk het kunnen telen, oogsten en bereiden van ecologische groentes door onze zorg- en activiteitenboerderij, evenals voor de buitenarrangementen die op De Peerdegaerdt georganiseerd worden. Het gaat om een ecologische moestuin, deels gebaseerd op permacultuur. Permacultuur staat voor samenwerken met de natuur. Het is tegelijkertijd een participatieproject, waarbij we met het UWV gaan samenwerken om mensen arbeidsfit te maken. Uiteindelijk kunnen mensen ook een stukje moestuin bij ons huren en krijgen dan maandelijks begeleiding om succesvol groentes te kweken."
Programma
NLdoet op De Peerdegaerdt in Strijen start zaterdag 11 maart om 09.45 uur met koffie en thee. Om 10.00 uur volgt een korte uitleg over de Peerdegaerdt. Hierna is het tijd om aan de slag te gaan met de aanleg van de moestuin zodat eind maart gestart kan worden met het voorzaaien. Voorbeelden van activiteiten tijdens deze dag zijn: wilgen knotten, verwerken snoeihout, grondwerkzaamheden, transport benodigde materialen en het planten van eetbare gewassen. Deze werkzaamheden zijn afhankelijk van het weer en de grond. Bij voldoende deelnemers kan de Mien Ruys wandeltuin ook nog zomerklaar gemaakt worden. Natuurlijk verzorgt De Peerdegaerdt voor haar NLdoet deelnemers een gevarieerde biologische lunch met een heerlijke soep, om na een ochtend hard werken weer op kracht te komen. Met het Peerdegaerdts dubbelsapje zal rond 16.00 uur het programma worden afgesloten.

Ondersteuning vrijwilligerswerk door de Groene Motor
Via de Groene Motor heeft De Peerdegaerdt een bijdrage ontvangen om de vrijwilligersactiviteiten op De Peerdegaerdt verder te ondersteunen. De Groene Motor is een provinciaal programma dat vrijwilligerswerk in de leefomgeving stimuleert en ondersteunt. Het programma is ondergebracht bij het samenwerkingsverband Landschap & Erfgoed Zuid-Holland. De Groene Motor faciliteert diverse (regionale) netwerken, ondersteunt nieuwe initiatieven en coördineert de uitleen van gereedschap en verzekering van vrijwilligers. De Peerdegaerdt heeft ervoor gekozen om voor deze bijdrage cursussen voor betrokken vrijwilligers te ontwikkelen en organiseren, zoals de cursus snoeien "Opbouw en verjonging fruitbomen". Dankzij de bijdrage van de Groene Motor kan deze cursus tegen een aantrekkelijke prijs worden aangeboden en is zelfs kosteloos voor vrijwilligers die vaker actief zijn op De Peerdegaerdt.
Cursus Opbouw en verjonging fruitbomen
Op de Peerdegaerdt treffen we oude, halfwas en jonge fruitbomen aan. De locatie is daarmee zeer geschikt voor een workshop wintersnoei. Er staan peren die rond de 100 jaar oud zijn en vragen om verjonging van de kroon, er staan jongere 'halfwas' appelbomen van iets meer dan 10 jaar oud die deels verder uitgebouwd, deels verjong moeten worden en jonge appels en peren die vrij recent zijn aangeplant en nog volledig in de 'opbouwfase' zitten.
De cursus “Opbouw en verjonging fruitbomen” vindt plaats in de hoogstamboomgaard van De Peerdegaerdt en bestaat uit twee cursusdagen. De eerste cursusdag die georganiseerd werd op zaterdag 21 januari richtte zich op het uitbouwen van jonge en halfwas bomen, de tweede cursusdag op zaterdag 18 maart richt zich op verjonging in de oude bomen.

To date, computers and the Internet is to people of present time what religion is to people in late 12th to early 13th century. We, to be exact, now rely heavily on and addicted to computers and the Internet, so did people in late 12th to early 13th century, whose life focus was religion which reflected on ancient Gothic architecture. The invention of computers fostered the efficiency of information delivery. Besides, the Internet also shortened the distance and broke the barriers between countries around the world. With the same respect, the introduction of Gothic buildings in Middle Ages transformed that of the classic and thus began a fresh architecture formation at that time. The newly-developed Gothic architecture was eccentrically spread from the centre, Paris, to the UK, German, the northern Spanish and the northern Italy.
Among those Gothic buildings, Gothic cathedrals are of necessity mention-worthy. They, as the symbols of heaven, are not only the places where prayers gather but a sacred devotion to Saint Mary. They also manifest the index of prosperity, the life centre of the society and the shelter of people and of their emotions. What this piece of work seeks to address is to reconstruct Gothic formation of architecture by manipulating IC socket, an electric component where CPUs are inserted with a PGA package. IC socket pins were piled to perform the formation of Gothic construction. This was done to, on the one hand, put an emphasis on the importance of computers and the Internet to our human beings and, on the other hand, portrait that Gothic cathedrals were spiritually significant to people of the time. In brief, computers and the internet as well as Gothic cathedrals both serve as practical and spiritual significance to people of some particular time and this art work presents the close link between the two.

These are the components of the setup I use for my extreme macros.
I reverse-mount a Nikon 50mm f/1.4D prime lens on a Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G telephoto lens using a 52-62mm thread coupler I got on eBay.
Reversed prime lenses act as magnifying glasses. In my setup, I use a telephoto lens to zoom into a reversed prime lens, producing extreme levels of magnification.
This particular lens setup produces images with irritating chromatic aberrations, dust spots, and minimal field depth. Nevertheless, none of my other lenses - including my conventional macro lens - can match it in terms of magnification.
Finished components include custom back plate in aluminium for the tension pulley, two adjustable arms for each of the top lugs on the alternator and a support for the HT leads.
