St. James Church is a late Gothic three-nave church situated in the Jakubské square in Brno- Brno center, whose history dates back to the early 13th century. In 1995 the church was declared a national cultural monument. In the church is the tomb of the famous defender of Brno Louise Raduit. On the ceiling of the church are a number of guild characters, coats of arms of noble families and several monograms.

History

Church in 1828

At the time of its founding, the church was mainly intended for the German population that settled around present-day Běhounska street. Foundation of the church is expected in the period, which is defined by the reign of Vladislav Henry, between the years 1201 to 1222. Was in 1340 in the basement of the house next door, which the church before his death bequeathed the local vicar, established ossuary. At this time, documented cemetery around the church, which was in the next ten years gradually expanded. From 1368 to 1405 around the church have been established several chapels (Corpus Christi, St. Maurice and St. Ursula), which created a special urban complex.

Construction

Construction of the church, in the form in which it is known that certain amendments to the present day, had already begun before the Hussite wars, but the construction has progressed only to the position of the choir, pillars and perimeter walls. From 1502 he began work on the church builder Anton Pilgram, who founded the northern ship with the portal . Roofing was done probably before 1530. The construction of the church tower began in the 16th century, in 1592 it was increased by A. Gabrie of the clock and completion did Simon Tauch, who put the tower Renaissance dome. The height of the tower is 92 meters. During the Thirty Years' War, the church was not damaged and therefore there was no need to rebuild the church - helping to maintain his predominantly late-Gothic appearance.

The cemetery which was located around the church, has been around since 1784, and with it gradually disappeared also the complex above the chapel. From the church were subsequently moved several tombstones, and currently there are six. Church without prejudice to the Baroque style. In 1878 the church was done insensitively regothization. In the years 1900 - 1901 was the neo-Gothic parish church designed by Alois Prastorfem and Germans Wanderleym .

The SR 167 Completion Project in Fife includes a large and unique environmental mitigation program. While building the new SR 167 expressway, we've also begun work on a riparian restoration program, which will restore nearly 150 acres of wetlands and streams.

After we relocated fish in the creek, heavy equipment began digging a new channel for the stream so that it meanders as natural creeks do. The soil that we're digging out doesn't go to waste. Much of it is being used to help build the base for the new SR 167 expressway. Old creek soil is the darker colored dirt visible in the middle of the photograph.

Decades ago, areas on either side of I-5 at the Fife curve were converted to industrial and agricultural use, turning this area into a shadow of its former self. Hylebos Creek, for example, was diverted into ditches that followed straight lines and ran too close to I-5, allowing runoff from the road to enter the creek. Heavy rains resulted led to chronic flooding on I-5 because the wetlands that used to act as a storage area for floodwater were gone.

Our restoration work will realign Hylebos Creek on both sides of I-5, remove invasive grasses and other plants in both these areas. The Interurban Trail will remain. Old culverts are being replaced with bridges to allow the creek to flow more naturally and freely.

Native vegetation and trees will be added to encourage the return of wildlife. This includes things such as trees that will serve as perches for birds, sunning areas for turtles and aquatic habitat that will encourage growth in the fish populations that still use the area, particularly Chinook and coho salmon.

The SR 167 Completion project, along with restoring this vital habitat is part of our Puget Sound Gateway Program which completes critical links in Washington’s highway and freight network. It will build an important new connection to the Port of Tacoma, improve the movement of freight and reduce congestion on local roads and highways.

This photo, taken on Aug. 7, 2023, shows the progress we're making on realigning Hylebos Creek, west of I-5 near 8th Street east.

After we relocated fish in the creek, heavy equipment began digging a new channel for the stream that will meander as natural creeks do. You can see this in the middle left of the picture. The foreground shows the diversion channel we built for the creek while we rebuilt its permanent home.

That slim opening under SR 99 in SeaTac is just the start of the excavation needed to build the new SR 509 Expressway.

The new expressway will go under SR 99, near South 208th Street, and the Sound Transit Guideway, shown at the top of the photo.

The expressway is part of the SR 509 Completion Project which creates a new four-lane (two lanes in each direction) road between I-5 and South 188th Street near Sea-Tac Airport.

The completion project is being built under the Puget Sound Gateway Program. The Gateway program combines the SR 509 Completion Project in King County and the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County to complete critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.

Improved intersection lighting and line markings, Highway 4 was also widened to accommodate a dedicated left turn lane. This new lane will help local traffic access the Whiskey Creek Store and other local businesses, while keeping traffic moving freely as well.
