In 1992, nearly eighty years after the completion of the dam, the state, in partnership with Georgia Power, created Tallulah Gorge State Park, one of the most popular in the state park system. Visitors enjoy activities on the lake and hiking through the gorge, and controlled releases from the dam allow them to hear the roar of the falls on selected weekends in the spring and autumn. In 1999 the trail around the gorge was named for Helen Dortch Longstreet.

Upon completion of a 10 week Certificate II leadership and personal development course through Aboriginal Indigenous Leadership Centre (AILC) 12 local indigenous youth travelled to Central Australia in June / July 2016.
The trip was undertaken to assist them to learn about the value and role of traditional culture and value and to reconnect with identity, culture and spiritual practices.
On their return the leadership group will use their new skills and understanding to influence and teach their peers through peer development, Youth Week and Reconciliation Week activities. They will also develop a short DVDE of their personal journey which will be used by schools and youth centres as a resource for other young people.
The leadership team will work with Queanbeyan-Palerang Regaional Council's Aboriginal Community Liaison and Projects Officer to create an innovative new Reconciliation Week program, with activities tailored for all school ages.
