natural light vs. strobist

A lot of photographers talk about being masters of natural light. For fun I did a little comparison to see if all the work it takes to set up a "strobist" shot is really worth all the time and effort one takes to set up the shot. I know there is a time and place for natural light, don't get me wrong. But can you honestly tell me the natural light shot above is a shot that says "wow! look at me?" In this instance, I feel like the "natural light" shot is just a snapshot. Anyone could have taken this shot? For the strobist, there is a sense of artistry involved. Feel free to add your comments and thoughts. I am very interested in hearing what other photographers have to say about this debate between the two forms!

A crap comparison shot because it is late but I love my dolls.

Resin comparison of my brown dolls plus a WS and NS doll for comparison.

Here are the lighter flesh-toned dolls that I have, for the person who wanted a comparison picture. (MH and EAH only)

Bloodgood is a little more peachy/orange than the rest.

A few people have been asking for some size comparison shots so here they are!

Rigel has doible joint, and a more thick, manly lower arm with muscles and veins.

I've been shooting with a vintage Nikon L35AF and really enjoying the results -- especially with Kodak Pro Image 100 -- an apparently now-discontinued ISO 100 C-41 film that I believe was heavily marketed in Asia. I decided to try Ektar 100 as a replacement.

Left: Nikon L35AF, f/2.8 35mm, Kodak Pro Image 100. Right: Canon Sure Shot Supreme, f/2.8 38mm, Kodak Ektar 100. I always thought that Pro Image 100 really popped the blue skies, but in this test Ektar really goes to town.

The Kayak-Nessie is my small dream as an opensource project. You can order her now at Hongyi or use the images to make her at a different manufacturer if you want. drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_f6QgG2BE_kOTVTaWhRZ3RSUVE

I just wish I can take her on water soon for better pictures.

Last fall when the Iphone 11 pro came out I bought one hoping to use it for street photography. However I am using it more and more everyday. These were taken on two separate days but similar conditions. Both are right out of the camera and not edited. I cropped the 5D4 so the composition was similar. I think I made a good choice

So this is that embarrassing point in time when I realise I have a whole other set of dolls which I completely forgot I owned...poor neglected things.

L-R: imda 1.7; Petworks Usaggi; middie Blythe; Tiny Betsy McCall

usaggi is the same size as niki and odeco but with an immature chest and is closest in size to Posy. Tiny Betsy has similar waist and hips but much broader shoulders.

Here is a doll comparison that I hope will help a fellow doll collector who is having trouble matching the right body for an ITBE Desirable head. He's hoping to find a Nuface body that matches but there are so many variations of Caucasian skin tone. If anybody has had any experience with matching this particular head we would both appreciate any input you can offer.

I got a request on twitter for a height comparison between little dal/pullip and various small anime figures so...

Pinky Street-Figma- Little Dal-Nendoroid-Little Pullip- Nendoroid

From left to right - Ultimate, Farewell to arms, and Deadite. The older versions are still decent figures, but the new ultimate is superior. The new legs look so much better and the paint is also improved

UPGRADE! to 6000x4000px!

Switch Taeheo is a slightly smaller head. (Smaller than Shiho and most likely smaller than Soseo?) - and I think this body is just a tat to big for him. With a slightly shorter and less thick neck it would work better. It is not as noticable with a wig, but not my first choice.

The colour difference is less pronounced for the eye than here in the pictures.

A comparison of the resin colors of Fairyland's "Natural" of 2012 (on the left) and Withdoll's "Normal" of 2013 (on the right).

As you can see the match is quite good. There is a slight difference, but it could easily be blushed.

I was just trying to figure out how to illustrate the unusual size of this beast that I had run across in the neighborhood, when someone came and parked his Volkswagen van (which is quite a large vehicle, at least for European standards) just between it and a Fiat Punto. Note that the Volkswagen’s overall height barely exceeds the pickup walls.
