- Yashica Electro 35 GTN (GSN's darker cousin) is excellent for low light shots, and have perfect ergonomics despite its largest size. The RF patch is the most contrasty, and the meter works consistently. It is also considered one of the prettier cameras.
- Minoltina AL-S is the lightest and most compact with the best all-around lens Rokkor 40/1.8. About the same size as Canonet QL17, but lighter.
- Canon Canonet QL17 (new) is the most capable and a very good lens, albeit weak RF patch on my sample (thus the blue filter). The meter is still working, but slow speeds are off.
- Fujica 35-ML has the most 3D looking Fujinon lens (despite slower at f2.8), and slightly different operations (thumb wheel focusing, bottom film advance lever like Retinas). Solid like a brick.

At one time, I changed my cars every three years or so and my cameras less often - now it is the other way round.
My Canon S90 dates back to 2009 (a long time in terms of camera developments) and has been superseded by three models, the latest being the S110.
I really like the form factor of the S series cameras but the performance when the ISO was greater than 400 left something to be desired. Time for a change.
The market for premium compacts has grown a lot since 2009 with offerings by most manufacturers, it was going to be a tough decision.
The more I looked though, the more I kept coming back to the Sony RX100 which is variously described by many as the best premium compact camera on the market and by one enthusiastic reviewer as a “pocket rocket”. The compelling features are its Zeiss lens and its largeExmoor sensor.
I am pleased to say, from initial trials, that it does perform an awful lot better than the camera it replaces which will now be consigned to the glove box of the car for emergencies.

Of course the last road bike I had was a "12 speed" with 6 rear sprockets
This is a "20 speed" with 10 rear sprockets including a 11 12 at the small end
That is a BIG gear even with "just" a 50 up front

Another product of the morning's ramble in the Hall's Gap Botanic Gardens. The rising sun peeks into the valley and shines through these fonds of bracken. In the top corner, a spider has made its home for the night.
Oddly, I tried this scene with a new-ish compact digital as a comparison between the meters. The compact exposed for the background and thus overexposed the whole shot - but my 26-year-old AL-1 nailed it first-time.
