Channel swapped 720nm infrared landscape fun. IR is a great way to make pictures when conditions aren't right for other kinds of photography.

Also, using this old modified Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6 really makes me want to try a newer camera in that line. It's very small and very straightforward to use.

Still have a lot to learn about editing though. [Edit] Workflow improvements have helped.

Improved my editing process, and I think I can get cleaner IR results from that little 1/2.3-inch sensor. Still some other maintenance to do on the camera, but this came out well enough that I'm going to share it.

This is a Panasonic Lumix ZS6 with the hot mirror removed and a 720nm filter. I then swapped red and blue channels in post to get yellow trees and blue sky instead of the reverse, and did some additional color adjustments.

I really like IR skies. IR reveals quite a bit of detail and drama.

These images are also my fall fix before the leaves have even started to change.

Picturesque scene at the lake Schlachtensee (pronounced: [ˈʃlaxtn̩ˌzeː]) in Berlin's south-western area.

With mating season in full swing right now, this single female Mandarin duck had to deal with not only one but, initially, four drakes on that sunny afternoon. Here, they were all still quite calm, but just a few moments later, when they had come ashore, poor "Lady Mandarin" all of a sudden was surrounded by a total of 10 males in nuptial plumage, all yelling "Me!", "Me!" in Mandarin duck language at their number one (and only) girl. She didn't look overjoyed. At one point, she tried to escape by flying on the nearby lawn, but the males followed her, of course.

What struck me was the unusual, guttural sound the drakes made (quite different from anything I ever heard from our endemic mallard ducks). I assume it was a typical mating call. Regarding the many people who enjoyed their Sunday on the nearby lawn, or the walkers around the lake who had stopped to watch this drake assembly, the ducks didn't care at all. Schlachtensee is a very popular day-trip destination all year round (just like the other beautiful lakes in that area), so the wildlife population is used to humans.

HSS, Everyone! Have a nice new spring/autumn week ahead!

I loved the way that the road wove its way into the trees. Infrared was the way to go because of the time of day, but the large clouds make for more gentle light.

A fantastic Light show at a recent concert.

To conclude this short series of old Sydney photos, we'll take a look at the restaurant world.

Mr Wong's Cantonese Restaurant is a huge place, with dining facilities on multiple levels. It is designed to reflect two eras in a converted inner city warehouse: Shanghai prior of the invasion of the Japanese and the rise of Communists; and Prohibition era USA. You'll see some photos from the Prohibition Bar, accessible from Mr Wong's via a secret doorway (of course), in my uploaded collage today. merivale.com/venues/mrwong/

We were there for lunch and the food was as spectacular as the setting.

All these photographs today were taken with the natural lighting and handheld by the Panasonic DMC-FS7 compact camera. If you get a chance to purchase one of these lovely little 10MP pocket cameras, in good secondhand condition, I can tell you it will serve you well.

The Kunstmuseum is a modern palace of the arts. Step inside this enchanting building, wander through its beautiful daylit galleries and discover that special work of art that touches you personally. You might even leave a little in love. With that extraordinary painting by Monet, that impressive photography exhibition, the adventurous life of Piet Mondrian, the intimate galleries, or the period rooms full of Delftware. A visit to the Kunstmuseum is always a memorable and meaningful experience.

I hope that this photograph answers the question that was posed on the internet: "I'm looking for a compact camera and I am looking at the Lumix DMC-TZ80. Now reading reviews online are giving me mixed feelings. I see a lot of comments about how it takes bad pictures... So the question is, is it the camera or just the way people are using it?"

This is an uncropped zoom shot from the Lumix DMC-TZ80. I doubt I could have achieved a better result even with my 45.7 MP Nikon D850. And this compact camera has 18 MP. So you see, it's not about the sensor size or the specs of a particular camera. It is all about the light and composition.

It was a cloudy gloomy day today. Then at the last moments of the day the sun broke through to illuminate the landscape as it seems to only do in the Land of Enchantment.

7DWF, Crazy Tuesday: Decay or Abandoned

Both, I'd say. Decayed and abandoned. But not quite. There are crazy people like us who like to visit lost places in order to take photos of the glory of decay :-)

Another one from a wonderful photowalk with Flickr friends at an abandoned lung sanatorium earlier this year. We were lucky that it had been such a comparatively warm day (for early March). Inside of the buildings it was freezing cold, so we went outside from time to time just to warm us up in what had been the first early spring sun ;-)

7DWF: Crazy-Tuesday-Thema "Verlassen oder verfallen"

Wohl beides. Obwohl... verlassen?

Hello friends! ☺

Just a quick update to say I'm doing fine and hope you are too :-)

Captured this photo at exactly 1 second past 4 in the morning (a few years ago in the month of May).

A cold morning, slightly below freezing, and I had the place all to myself (except for the wildlife, which I love!)

The silhouetted rocks and nuclear glow during the predawn really captured my attention!

So of course I had to cautiously walk out upon other rocks and balance myself in funny poses to capture the exact angle I wanted :-)

This is a place of calmness that I appreciate in the mornings, especially since you can enjoy the view of cityscape buildings reflected upon the far side of the waters.

The title, 'A World of Light & Hope' is in tribute to all those who are doing so much good during this time... thank you all.

Friends, may your day ahead be wonderful :-)

Please take care and remember to "Share the Kindness"

😊☀️🌻

I decided to look at my digital archives, to recover and reprocess some old straight-out-of the point and shoot camera jpgs.

I'll post one picture every thursday, with the motto "Great places, bad cameras"

I made this image using an IR-converted camera with a 590nm filter. I like the color results in channel-swapped images. They're familiar, and yet somehow unreal. Like finding a new dimension or an entirely new season. Helps to see with fresh eyes.
