I decided to look at my digital archives, to recover and reprocess some old straight-out-of the point and shoot camera jpgs.
I'll post one picture every thursday, with the motto "Great places, bad cameras"

Ondanks dat ik van kleins af aan al geïnteresseerd was in treinen begon ik pas in 2005 (op m'n 21e) met het fotograferen. De eerste foto's werden gemaakt met een simpel compactcamera'tje. In februari 2007 kocht ik mijn eerste spiegelreflexcamera. Langzamerhand kreeg ik het apparaat beter onder de knie en konden in het voorjaar de eerste (ook nu nog) toonbare foto's gemaakt worden.
Een van de eerste echte knallers die ik kon vastleggen was op de avond van 2 maart 2007, toen het na een vrij bewolkte dag goed opklaarde en bij de avondstek in Dordrecht Zuid nog een aantal foto's gemaakt kon worden. Hier reden met name aan het eind van de middag en avond veel treinen die overdag zijn behandeld in de Rotterdamse haven.
Rail4Chem Benelux werd in 2004 opgericht als dochter van de Duitse vervoerder Rail4Chem en nam in 2004 de activiteiten over van ShortLines, dat toen in zwaar weer verkeerde. Vanaf eind 2004 maakte R4C in Nederland een flinke groei door waarbij ook ruimte was voor ander vervoer dan containers en chemische producten in ketelwagens.
Via het samenwerkingsverband European Bulls werd het vervoer van graanproducten verworven. Er werden wekelijks tot 14 treinen beladen met maïs en tarwe gereden uit Tsjechië en Hongarije. Vaak gingen de treinen leeg terug naar Oost-Europa, maar soms werd de trein in de Rotterdamse haven herbeladen met soja.
Pogingen om op het emplacement IJsselmonde de treinen te sorteren op wagentype mislukten vaak, want al snel liepen alle soorten wagens weer doorelkaar heen. Op 2 maart 2007 is Rail4Chem-lok 2006 onderweg met een bonte set graanwagens op weg naar Emmerich of Venlo en kon in een laagstaand zonnetje worden vastgelegd bij Dordrecht Zuid.

Yesterday was a gray and dreary day. Light was flat, temps were starting to drop low, and I debated going out for a while. I finally decided to give it a go. While conditions certainly didn't help, I did find a few new compositions to return to on better days. This is one such possibility.

Reprocessing an old picture... this is perfect for my mood today
View from the tiny Byzantine church of Panagia Tsambika, Archangelos, Rhodes, Greece
Tsambika is an 800 meters long beach of fine pure sand, gently shelving on the east coast of the island of Rhodes. Distant at about 26 km from the capital, this pure-sand beach has survived from permanent development as most of the land is owned by the Orthodox Church. In fact, at the north end of the beach, on a sharp peak overlooking the beach, there is the church of Panagià Tsambika.

Took this shot early in the morning :-)
There was a steady mist over the water (& shoreline) from the time I arrived, 03:10, until I left at 05:30.
The sun continually battled the clouds and began to reflect upon the water just about the time I visited one of my favorite piers... so I came away with this, which I'm happy to share with you guys today

Park Avenue Trailhead, Arches National Park, Moab, Utah, USA
The Park Avenue Trail is one of the first major attractions within Arches National Park. It is a one-mile trail that follows the bottom of a canyon at the feet of some of the park’s gigantic and well-known monoliths.
The Park Avenue Trail is most aptly named for New York City’s famous street. Early travelers noticed a similarity between these sandstone spires and the famous skyscrapers along New York’s Park Avenue, and the name stuck. The main difference, of course, is that the “skyscrapers” of Arches National Park were sculpted by nature.
