The Lumix DMC-TZ80 compact camera which I was trying out, gives a very clear rendition of this gull's feathers. Obviously I converted this image to black and white in post from a RAW file. I really like the way the edges of this bird are soft, and I didn't need to increase the contrast very much to distinguish it from the blue sky in monochrome. The square format was selected from the menu option which allows for four different aspect ratios: 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 1:1.

I decided to look at my digital archives, to recover and reprocess some old straight-out-of the point and shoot camera jpgs.
I'll post one picture every thursday, with the motto "Great places, bad cameras"

I really wanted a "leaving the resort in a snow storm" shot. The timing and snow lined up so I reached out to Kaela and she was down to be a model.
I used a bare SB-800 on a stand behind here at 1/128th and pocket wizards to trigger the flash to help emphasize the falling snow.

Had a chance for a short visit to the "Volksfest" in Stuttgart in the laste afternoon.
Actually I was really surprised how few people there were compared to the last years, guess I could have taken my Nikon...
I would have loved to go later in the evening for to have a chance for longer exposures, but on the other hand I guess I was allready strectching what I can do handhold in this shot!
On a sidenote:
I allways feal odd watching those people who go to a swabian festival but wear bavarian costumes!
The sun, shifted off to the south, bathes a late fall woodland in infrared light illuminating leaves with a surreal glow. In this image the native tones of bronze sky and slate trees are swapped to give a some sense of familiarity to images made in a spectrum mostly alien to human eyes.
