Wine contained in a cup!

Last Saturday I was volunteering to shoot some pictures of the first communion of a multicultural school community. It was a great way to put my skills to use to help others. On display are some vignettes of the church service – Kortrijk, Belgium

Jas Fagan’s Communion Shop at 75 Thomas Street, Liberties Dublin.

Part of an OffShoot outing.

More about the shop here.

"Jas Fagan’s has been in business on Thomas Street for over 45 years. We specialise in boys communion wear, made to measure and tailored suits for the descerning young gent on our premises.",/i>

Found a picture of my mother's communion day, aged 7! Wanted to recreate the eeriness of that white veil on a child and also tried to give this a bit of a vintage feel, hence the blur!

Communion cupcakes.

Double chocolate mudcake cupcakes with dark chocolate fudge frosting.

Four images taken of our friend's daughter there on her first communion ... the first three were taken before at the Church, and the last of the 4 was taken afterwards.

Liked the cross there for the close in capture and the shadows being cast. On the other side of the church was a courtyard and the statue. Put that statue to use :)

The last of the 4 images she is reading from a small bible ... her idea to get this capture. Hope she and her parents enjoy it.

Folded for this month's challenge, "alien life forms".

If you're familiar with the book Communion by Whitley Strieber (or even just it's very famous cover) you'll no doubt notice that I attempted to emulate the composition and coloration of the dust jacket art. I also ran the image through the Prisma app to give it a more painterly look.

The model is folded from a 7" square of lizard skin embossed paper, using the reverse side of the paper to represent the pale, flesh tone of the face and the shiny, black side to represent the eyes.

Though my depiction of a Visitor strays slightly from the one on the cover, it does so purposefully. I've attempted to to capture a few nuances and associations made in Communion and it's followups (sequels?) that aren't evident from the cover art alone.

The shape of the face and it's features are meant to be evocative of animals such as owls, mantises, and lizards. The texture of the skin is meant to imply wrinkles and age, as well as further reinforce the association with lizards. The shiny, bubble-like texture on the eyes also reinforces associations with the compound eyes of insects.

A girl dressed in a communion dress and veil walks with her motherthrough the crowds on St. Patrick's Street Cork on Saturday. Dressed as she is, she looks almost lost but the crowd parted way for her and her parents.

I don't know why she was dressed like that. First Communion ceremonies aren't until next year. Is it a communion dress? Could she be a bridesmaid or flower girl at a wedding?

Un joyeaux Fête Nationale à vous tous, sur cet 14ème de Juillet / A very happy National Day to all my friends in France, on this 14th of July !

This is the basilica where I received communion on Easter Sunday. They honestly made it the high point of my trip to Joan of Arc's home in France — If you read my previous posts, you'll know that's saying a lot... trust me.

Greetings again to my hosts there ;)

Pink and white and very feminine for a first communion is what was requested. Here is what I came up with. Didn't have a great icing day, so it isn't as smooth as I had hoped, but I do like the combination of cookies. Boy you can tell this was a rushed photo - the platter is a little tilted and Maria's cookie isn't angled enough.......we're having major thunderstorms and I was losing light fast!!!

Communion Sunday - August 1, 2021

"Call forth the sacredness of the earth now, the holiness of the living, breathing planet and breathe with the earth, blessing and being blessed as the light of the earth flows to you and as the light of your own heart flows to the beloved earth.

There is a partnership, a communion between you and the land, between the land and you. This runs deep beneath the streets, deep beneath the buildings, deep throughout and beneath the seas. The earth is sacred. The earth is our mother; we must take care of her."
