Before turning solely to heritage private hire work, Tony Blackman's Halifax Joint Committee added a splash of colour to bus operation in West Yorkshire. Those colours harked back to the days of the old municipal operation in the town and were refreshing to see re-used on modern buses. They were certainly a change from the 'base white with stickers' cop-out type of livery in vogue.
Parked at the firm's Albert Road garage here is one of a handful of single deckers, a Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart. K414 MGN according to BLoTW, had been new to R&I Tours of London, who if I recall correctly, were one of very few independents in the traditional sense, operating into the capital in the 1990s. A nice little additional touch was the fitting of bespoke AEC style nut rings to the front wheels. Sadly the firm closed not long after I took this picture and now, even the heritage operation is defunct.

Little Burrito had to stay home today. Both he and Trixie were getting anxious by the time we arrived home. Trixie needed a good ear rubbing and Burrito was hoping we'd brought him a treat (we did, of course:-))
Sou 74728 is a Arrowhead 70 ton Committee Design hopper weathered with Pan Pastels mainly and sealed with dull coat. Arrowhead's Nickle Silver code 88 wheels were used. Sergent couplers were used along with hand formed cut levers to reach the linkage. The cut levers were replaced simply due to the stock item's length wouldn't reach.
For a while this independent brightened the scene in Halifax. In December 1998 RM 324 stands at the scenic Norton Tower terminus. Not bad for a town service!
This was one of the more cooperative birds on Horsepen Bayou on this outing. He was keeping an eye out on the activity where the heaviest concentration of alligators reside. This adult Tri-colored heron was not as sociable as most and didn’t stick around for a long set of photos. It may just be the time of the year. Still some pretty harsh light during the midday sun.

Sorry for leaving you with a fried egg for the last couple of days, but I have been very busy...
Thank you to David for pointing out that I had another picture on TV via the BBC Britain in Pictures group! :))
I'll try and catch up with everyone soon, but can't promise anything. Sorry.
See it here large on black!

On May 9th, Ogden Union Station was the place to be. Union Pacific brought the UP 4014, and the UP 844 nose to nose, to help celebrate the sesquicentennial of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. About 25,000 people gathered for this event. The drawing factor was the Big Boy, UP 4014. Needless to say, there was a jubilant welcoming committee waiting for her.

The geese were naturally looking for grub but being totally ignored by the passing runners...

A welcoming committee on this windy and deserted beach! How cute! Strong winds blow the rain clouds onshore. The rain passed quickly and we spent the rest of the afternoon preparing our BBQ dinner on the beach.
More pumpkin shots for the Jules' Photo Challenge Group!
I have had a LOT of fun going around to see pumpkins! It's cool how many people have decorated with seasonal things!
Two ball-shaped marmots are watching human visitors pass by in the evening autumn light while preparing for hibernation. Over the last month I have sorted, graded and processed many photos from the last few years. Through this process I feel I have learned more about my mistakes than by spending this time outside behind my camera. This is my last photo of the Alps for a bit.

Such a delight to see our early morning visitors - mother and son (whom we'd spotted the day previous) wandering the property where we were staying on Lummi Island.
How some people can see this and pull out a gun instead of a camera beats me.
