Saturday we went to the Feguson Fawsitt pub in Walkington for dinner. WE both went for the chicken and bacon pie. Wow, what a choice - that may well be the best pie I have ever tasted!
Than on the evening we went out on Prince's Avenue for a few drinks.

I have photographed this scene many years ago, but wanted to reshoot it with a hi-rez camera. I processed this one a bit different from my norm...

Saturday night in Lincoln was one of our best nights out there ever. We had such a great time, lots of interaction with other people.
We started out at the Skylight Bar in the Doubletree hotel on Brayford Wharf then went on to Popworld, which was a Fever Boutique last time we were there.
At Popworld we met the wonderful Ashliegh who was just great company all night! And we had a dance on the light-up dance floor too. A brill night all round!
At the Sylight Bar in the Doubletree. These seats had a wonderful view out over Lincoln.

All these colors: Red, green, blue, the whole rainbow!
How this works: Put a CD or a CD-R on a flat surface, spread droplets of water onto the surface, and shine a natural LED light on the CD from a shallow angle. I used a folded wet paper tissue to drop water in a controlled way. I took three bracketed exposures and combined them into a natural HDR photo.
Where do the colors come from? White light is actually composed of colors that may span the whole range of rainbow colors. CDs have very thin layers, not unlike a thin layer of oil on water. When you shine white light on a CD, light is reflected on the surface and also at a layer below the surface. The reflected light is therefore partly from the surface, partly from a layer below the surface. Light has wave properties, one of which is interference - the cancellation or amplification of waves. Interference happens if the distance between the reflecting surfaces is comparable to the wavelength of the light. Waves reflected at different layers can amplify each other, or cancel each other out. That amplification or cancellation depends on the wavelength, in other words the color of the light. At any location of the CD, some colors are cancelled (not there), and others are amplified. That is why you see different colors across the CD.

I had to go for an appointment in London with the surgeon who will be performing my upcoming surgery.
While I was down there I met up with the wonderful Sarah Fey who took me out on the Monday evening.
We had an amazing time! We went to a basemant bar called the Friendly Society then on for something to eat, then we went to the Soho Theatre and went to see a stand-up comedy show.
I had an amazing time - the best time by far I have ever spent in London!
And the consultation went great too - it's looking like next March for my surgery! :-D
After the comedy show, in the bar at the Soho Theatre.

It is so hard to believe that it's been over 5 months since this particular visit to Elk Island... A lovely evening, that ended with a storm hitting the park. As always, before the rain, there was about a million of bugs flying all over and you can definitely see them on most of the pictures I have taken that day... All in all, I wouldn't mind the bugs, if it was still green and warm around ;D

Comment ?

How ?
But how could such a structure be built at an altitude of more than 3100m??
Fort Chaberton, also called the “Battleship of the Clouds”, was the pride of the Italian military and was then renowned as the tallest and one of the most powerful in the world. Its position was impregnable, putting it beyond the range of most artillery pieces of the time.
An extremely distressing atmosphere which had been accentuated with the accumulation of fatigue from the previous night.
Friends told me about a former military base located at Mont Chaberton, at an altitude of 3131 m.
This is located near Montgenèvre.
It's past 4:00 p.m. on October 11, we're off for a new hike of more than 1200m of positive elevation over 7.5km with a slightly heavier bag (25kg).
Frankly, I was hesitant to go up.
My mind told me “You’re tired, go home” and my heart told me “Go ahead, it’s time, you love it.
You will have the opportunity to sleep a little later." 💪
Not knowing the place, I immediately found it oppressive and harsh.
Seeing these ruins about ten meters high at the edge of the cliff was not very welcoming and distressing. 😨
Luckily, I had hot water, a hamburger, dark chocolate and an apple turnover to make me feel at home (or almost).
But before that, a scouting was necessary.
I recognize that it is not an easy place because it is difficult to access and there is not much back once you reach the summit.
Indeed, if we go back a little too far, we find ourselves at the bottom of the mountain...
In my compositions, I wanted to keep the Milky Way but not easy with the lack of perspective.
In addition, Fort de Chaberton faces north; which does not suit the position of the Milky Way in the sky.
Light pollution was present enough to illuminate the ruins.
The climb was mainly done mentally, I arrived in the dark.
It is in these cases where the mind can take over and where it is imperative to remain calm to limit stress and an accumulation of fatigue.
Fortunately, Monte Viso was not very far away and was watching over me.
We can see it in each of these three photographs.

Make way for the dream,
Jeff
Thanks for your visit, and for your Favs and comments!! The story around this pic follows:~Rhpsr
I could tell from across the street that Cool Dude with the Injured Hand was telling a story -- as he was talking, he was kinda bopping & jiving, if those are still meaningful expressions .. Anyway, just prior to the click he had both arms up in the air, and he brought them down in a sweeping motion, emphasizing the conclusion of his story. At which point they started laughing, which you can't see here but you can see in the second of this 2 pic sequence, Camaraderie -- Scenes From the Sidewalks of NYC** see first comment box below or click this link:

In Camaraderie, young Mr Smiley Face with the Backwards Hat is shaking the hand of Numbers Don't Lie. This tells me that the Cool Dude with the Injured Hand was telling a story about Numbers Don't Lie, who apparently was the Man and not The Sample -- thus leading to the handshake by Mr Smiley Face with the Backwards Hat ... or maybe it was something else, idk u tell me?
** This is #46 in a series of re-uploads from my Sidewalks of NYC Album which is largely mono or sepia. Most of these re-uploads are the color version, if I still have it, and there is a little bit of re-crop and proc. I had a very quiet LFF in May, curtailed because I had earache! Still, I made it out for a few hours and still managed to have a good time, although I didn't make it to any of the other bars.
Hotel selfies. How awesome is Gemma's (custom designed) dress?
Your comments and faves are greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
Whistling Kite - has a nest and mate nearby
Scientific Name: Haliastur sphenurus
Description: The Whistling Kite is a medium-sized raptor (bird of prey) with a shaggy appearance. It has a light brown head and underparts, with pale streaks, and dark sandy-brown wings with paler undersides. The underwings have a characteristic pale 'M' shape when open. The head and body are relatively narrow and the tail is rounded. The wings are long and well-rounded, with a wingspan of 120 cm to 145 cm. The sexes are similar, but the females are larger. Yong birds are slightly darker above, with paler streaking on head and underbody. They are often seen near water or around farms, soaring in a lazy circling flight pattern.
Similar species: Several other raptors may be confused with the Whistling Kite, including the Little Eagle, Hieraaetus morphnoides, other kites and harriers. These can only be separated by factors such as flight silhouette and style and the overall body shape.
Distribution: The Whistling Kite is widespread over mainland Australia but uncommon in Tasmania, and is also found in New Guinea, the Solomons and New Caledonia.
Habitat: The Whistling Kite is found in woodlands, open country and particularly wetlands. It is also common around farmland, vineyards and anywhere where carrion (dead animals) can be found (e.g. abattoirs, rubbish dumps and roadsides). Prefers tall trees for nesting.
Feeding: Whistling Kites soar above the ground, trees and water to search for prey such as carrion (dead animals) and small live animals such as mammals, birds, fish and insects.
Breeding: The Whistling Kite appears to be monogamous, with some breeding pairs remaining in a territory throughout the year and pairs actively defend the area around a nest. The bulky nest platform is built of sticks in a tall tree and may be reused, growing larger over time. Both sexes build the nest and incubate the eggs (the female does most of the incubation however) and may breed two or three times a year. The young stay with the parents after fledging for about six to eight weeks.
Calls: Loud descending whistle: 'teee-ti-ti'.
Minimum Size: 50cm
Maximum Size: 60cm
Average size: 55cm
Average weight: 770g
Breeding season: July to January in south; March to October in north.
Clutch Size: One to three, usually two.
Incubation: 38 days
Nestling Period: 46 days

After a busy Friday night it was a much quieter and more sedate affair on Saturday night. We sat chatting in the Cosmo bar for the evening.
This is the lovely Laura, who came all the way over from Barcelona for the weekend!
LFF truly is an international event!
My good Flickr contact and Fujifilm X-T gear colleague Bram de Jong commented on an earlier photo of Caffè Sicilia. He asked if I also took photos with the line of fire more parallel to the counter. For the reasons of more depth, a better view of the small café, angle-wise and just out of pure interest.
I responded that I would think about it… So, I did for about 2 seconds. The remaining time I needed for post-production.
This is the second shot of Caffè Sicilia. I think this one is not as strong as the first (see underneath in the comment section) with regards to making contact between the people in the photo and “you” looking at the photo. However, it gives a better impression of the local atmosphere in Caffè Sicilia – when there are not too much tourists around, how proud the staff is and the depth along the counter ;-).
Please tell me your thoughts on which of the two photos you like and why! Just take a little time to elaborate. I will highly appreciate it and will respond accordingly.
About the Caffè
In Noto, on the island of Sicily, the outwardly unassuming and humble 127-year-old Caffè Sicilia is a must see and must taste. One hasn’t been to Sicily when one has not set foot in this palace of taste, flavour, natural ingredients and tradition. The fourth-generation owner, Corrado Assenza and his wife Nives, proudly serves pastries, goodies and drinks. Some experts consider the cannoli, gelati and granita to be Italy’s finest. And concur after a small tasting.
Caffè Sicilia is popular gathering place. There are a few tables outside and a bit more inside (in a neighbouring room from the shop). Many tourists are queuing for those few tables. But the real magic happens and can be seen at the bar. There you see the staff preparing all the delights. Have the biggest chance of seeing Corrado Assenza at work. So, don’t queue up. Do as local Italians do, have a coffee (NB: those two cups are Esther’s and mine:-) at the bar and a small talk with the staff. Oké… and in my case take a photo.
Technical stuff
The lighting in Caffè Sicilia is not bright. Therefore I used a 2000 ISO, f4.0 (which is rather low for the DoF) and 1/140 and 2/3 stop under. I used 16 mils to get it all in.
Post-production consisted of LR and Silver Efex Pro 2 by Nik collection. In Silver Efex I used the Full Dynamic (Harsh) pre-set and then went from there. I fiddled with the toning, the [spot adjustment] tool, the grain and the overall structure, brightness and contrast. Finally, I added copyright signs (in PS). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.
