The relentless pursuit of likes and comments on the Instagram (yes, "the" Instagram) gets me down sometimes, and it's become apparent that the stuff people want to see is not photos of streetcars and ferries and cityscapes (the stuff I like to post); they want to see pictures of people. Or the algorithm is burying posts that don't have people, and pushing posts that do. Or they just want to see pictures of the bébé, and it feels like my art (my photography) doesn't matter anymore.
But I read something yesterday that said to keep making art even when no one cares. So I continue. And people on Flickr seem to like my art, so that's something.
I also remember that it doesn't really give lasting happiness if one of my pics gets a lot more likes than usual. I like when that happens, but it doesn't bring about a lasting sense of satisfaction. I always want more. I am pseudo-addicted to social media and that's the way they want it to be. I bet some of you are, too.
In any case, meaningful comments mean more to me than likes.

After a busy Friday night it was a much quieter and more sedate affair on Saturday night. We sat chatting in the Cosmo bar for the evening.

So this day in February was a pretty big day for me.
I'm pretty far along the social transition road. There are not too many situations I haven't already faced since going full time. But this was a big one - my first job interview as Emily and my fist job interview of any kind for over 12 years!
This felt real - even more than usual.
I didn't have anything particularly suitable for an interview, so this black dress was the best I could do. A little bit overdressed but not massively so. These pictures were taken before I left for the interview.
I have since found out that I got the job!!!
It's only casual work, and a zero hours contract - I'm cover for holidays and sickness - it's to help supplement my main oven cleaning job. And even now, in April, I'm still waiting for my DBS check to come back so they can clear me to start work. But it feels like a massive achievement, and a huge validation for me personally. 😃

Whistling Kite - has a nest and mate nearby
Scientific Name: Haliastur sphenurus
Description: The Whistling Kite is a medium-sized raptor (bird of prey) with a shaggy appearance. It has a light brown head and underparts, with pale streaks, and dark sandy-brown wings with paler undersides. The underwings have a characteristic pale 'M' shape when open. The head and body are relatively narrow and the tail is rounded. The wings are long and well-rounded, with a wingspan of 120 cm to 145 cm. The sexes are similar, but the females are larger. Yong birds are slightly darker above, with paler streaking on head and underbody. They are often seen near water or around farms, soaring in a lazy circling flight pattern.
Similar species: Several other raptors may be confused with the Whistling Kite, including the Little Eagle, Hieraaetus morphnoides, other kites and harriers. These can only be separated by factors such as flight silhouette and style and the overall body shape.
Distribution: The Whistling Kite is widespread over mainland Australia but uncommon in Tasmania, and is also found in New Guinea, the Solomons and New Caledonia.
Habitat: The Whistling Kite is found in woodlands, open country and particularly wetlands. It is also common around farmland, vineyards and anywhere where carrion (dead animals) can be found (e.g. abattoirs, rubbish dumps and roadsides). Prefers tall trees for nesting.
Feeding: Whistling Kites soar above the ground, trees and water to search for prey such as carrion (dead animals) and small live animals such as mammals, birds, fish and insects.
Breeding: The Whistling Kite appears to be monogamous, with some breeding pairs remaining in a territory throughout the year and pairs actively defend the area around a nest. The bulky nest platform is built of sticks in a tall tree and may be reused, growing larger over time. Both sexes build the nest and incubate the eggs (the female does most of the incubation however) and may breed two or three times a year. The young stay with the parents after fledging for about six to eight weeks.
Calls: Loud descending whistle: 'teee-ti-ti'.
Minimum Size: 50cm
Maximum Size: 60cm
Average size: 55cm
Average weight: 770g
Breeding season: July to January in south; March to October in north.
Clutch Size: One to three, usually two.
Incubation: 38 days
Nestling Period: 46 days

A weekend in Derby to visit Gemma and go for a visit to Dovedale in the Peak District.
After a lovely morning at Dovedale, we went out in Derby with Ann on Saturday night.
We had a lovely time. We only took in The Crown and Bishop Blaise then back to The Crown where we bumped into a lovely group. We always seem to meet nice people!

Latin name: Tamarix - Tamarisk
One of the trees in our garden is a Tamarisk and this was taken at the end of May against a lovely blue sky with fluffy clouds sailing high.
It is one of about 50–60 species of flowering plants in the family Tamaricaceae, native to drier areas of Eurasia and Africa. The generic name originated in Latin and may refer to the Tamaris River in Hispania Tarraconensis.
They are evergreen or deciduous shrubs or trees growing to 1–18 m in height and forming dense thickets. The largest, Tamarix aphylla, is an evergreen tree that can grow to 18 m tall. They usually grow on saline soils, tolerating up to 15,000 ppm soluble salt and can also tolerate alkaline conditions.
Tamarisks are characterized by slender branches and grey-green foliage. The bark of young branches is smooth and reddish brown. As the plants age, the bark becomes bluish-purple, ridged and furrowed.
The leaves are scale-like, almost like that of junipers [4] 1–2 mm long, and overlap each other along the stem. They are often encrusted with salt secretions.
The pink to white flowers appear in dense masses on 5–10 cm long spikes at branch tips from March to September, though some species (e.g. T. aphylla) tend to flower during the winter.

I'm starting to think Troy love's Halloween more than me. This past month has been a lot of fun and he is definitely getting in the Halloween spirit. We've made our way to Party City and a few other Halloween stores and he doesn't seem to be scared at all at any of the decorations or masks more like mesmerized and didn't want to leave the store either lol.
He found The Nightmare Before Christmas and asked if I would put it on for him. I thought it was a little too scary for him at this age and didn't want him having nightmares or anything but decided to let him watch it just to see how his reaction would be and sure enough he loved it and since then has been singing "I'm the pumpkin king ... this is Halloween... this is Halloween!". It's the cutest!
I'm starting to really enjoy this age he's so much more social now and it's amazing how we can have conversations now and I swear he has such a great memory too. It's cute to hear him talk to the Mr. when he get's home and tells him all about what we did sometimes I can't believe how descriptive he is. Make's me so happy :).

"Ho fatto da modello per vari fotografi, mi è sempre piaciuto altro del loro approccio, mai una delle loro foto in cui venivo ritratto. Le foto più belle richiedono un affetto reciproco, fosse anche un momento. Se manca l'affetto, la foto non ha mistero. Il mistero non è qualcosa di occulto, è ciò che non ti spieghi, ma anche ciò che vuole tirarti dentro. La foto di questo post si intitola "Gli amori finiti", me l'scattata il mio ex, tuttora amico stimatissimo e uomo importante nella mia vita, fraterno, solidale, di grande bontà e idealismo a perdere, un romantico come me, insomma. Ma non posso dire che sia stato completamente lui l'autore della foto, l'abbiamo fatta insieme, lui l'occhio e la macchina fotografica, io l'idea e il modello. Una follia. Siamo entrati in un cimitero abbandonato, abbiamo scavalcato il muro. Non dirò il nome del cimitero, è solo un luogo simbolico. Vedendo l'edera e le foglie degli alberi abbracciare i morti e la memoria scolorita che ne resta, mi sono immaginato nudo sotto all'arcata dell'edificio al centro del cimitero, in posa malinconica come un fanciullo invecchiato di una grecità attuale, senso del tragico, per intenderci, così mi sono spogliato al freddo, ho messo la testa sulla mia spalla, come abbracciandomi con la parte sempre lontana da tutto, ma dentro, la testa. Ero immalinconito dagli amori passati, ma nudo di fronte a essi, come pacificato. Lui poi ha messo a fuoco, click, in ansia per paura di venir sorpreso da estranei. Poi gli ho raccontato cos'erano gli amori finiti, i morti intorno, ancora presenti e vivi."

We had a weekend in Leicester! Many many years since I had been out in Leivester.
Friday night was great - we found a couple of local friendly pubs and saw an amazing drag act - KY Kelly at the Dover Castle. Her singing voice was amazing - often drag acts will lip sync but she sang all her stuff, including an Amy Winehouse song which was amazing.
And she noticed Gemma's lights, so got Gemma up on stage ha ha ha! Of course, being the shrinking violet the is Gemma, she absolutely hated it - NOT!

I was reading the comments on my previous pic of Tiff, and I loved Marco's comment, calling them 'little rascals', which was funny as I took this pic yesterday just after I shot them outside, and it looks like they are up to mischief, annoying poor Miss Barbie (who is also a recent addition to my collection... more on her later...) while she is trying to read peacefully in her lawn swing. She is NOT amused!! LOL

January LFF - I didn't know it at the time, but this was my last Leeds First Friday for a few months. I had some health issues which kept me away in February and March, and then had my surgery, so I won't be making it back to Leeds until June.
Saturday night was a surprisingly sociable night, bumping into all sorts of lovely people as we went round the bars.
After a delicious tea at Pieminister, we started in The End then on to Queens Court where we bumped into one of the Angels (Mollie) and her friends on a night out. We also bumped into Norma and Sabrina, what a lovely happy couple they are!
After that we went to Smokestack and bumped into another group of girls who had stayed for the Saturday - Jennifer, Ashley and Kirsty - then on to the Pack Horse for a final drink before heading back to the hotel. A great night!

Este hotel& resort esta ubicado en la franja hotelera de cancun. Se trata de un complejo compuesto de 4 edificios de 4 estrellas y uno de 5 estrellas. Como en casi todos los hoteles de cancun esta todo incluido incluso bebidas. Los viajeros que escogen el 5 estrellas tienen algunas ventajas como comer en mejores restaurantes y por supuesto el edificio es mejor. Tiene una playa justo enfrente del complejo. Recomiendo hacer algunas excursiones por cancun aunque no son baratas. Por ejemplo Tulum, Xel- Ha, Chichen Iza. Para salir por la noche me gusto mucho Coco Bongo por su espectaculo, aunque las instalaciones de esta discoteca son cutres. El precio en euros es de 45 euros con barra libre hasta las tres. Pero también hay otros lugares muy buenos con terraza donde tomarse unas copas por la noche.

Hull has a new footbridge and it has coloured LEDs lighting it up! It's a footbridge over to the marina and it's actually quite a beautiful piece of architecture.
We wanted to get some footbridge footage so decided to glam it up a bit. But it was SO COLD!!! On the video you can hear the wind, it was biting! So our trip out lasted about 2 minutes then we jumped striaght back in the car and came home, ha ha!
I totally love the awesome photobombing by the girl in the background, brilliant!
