France. Vosges. Alsace. Bas-Rhin. Forêt Domaniale du Bernstein. Photo prise Lors d'une courte rando en aller-retour, de la Chapelle Saint-Sébastien (près de Dambach-La-Ville) au Château du Bernstein.
Le jeudi 23 janvier est le 1er jour de l'année 2020 où je suis allé randonné. J'ai dû poser un jour de congé en semaine car depuis le début de l'année, les conditions anticycloniques tombent toujours pendant les jours de semaine !
D'après la météo sur Internet, la couche de nuages bas piégée en plaine et en vallée ne devait pas être très épaisse car Dambach qui se trouve vers 200m d'altitude devait bénéficier d'un bon ensoleillement. Mais en même temps je me doutais que c'était louche car Munster qui est située plus haut n'était pas censée voir le soleil de toute la journée ...
J'ai quand même décidé de monter au Château du Bernstein, situé vers 550m d'altitude, en espérant qu'il émergerait de la mer de nuages. Mais il n'en a rien été. Et pour cause : j'ai pu constater plus tard dans la journée que l'altitude supérieure de la couche de nuages se situait vers 800m sur toute l'Alsace centrale. Mais je n'ai aucun regret car mon aller-retour au château s'est déroulé dans un décor givré féérique que j'ai grandement apprécié.
INFOS : Le Château du Bernstein est construit sur un éperon rocheux et a une surface au sol assez étendue en longueur. Le château est entouré de beaux arbres feuillus mais en hiver ils n'empêchent pas trop de faire quelques belles photos du château.

This serene snapshot captures the subtle beauty of Vasona Lake Park in Los Gatos during a mild January day. The image reveals a landscape in transition, with bare deciduous trees stretching their intricate branches against a pale winter sky. The park's expansive lawn, tinged with a soft green, suggests the gentle climate of Northern California winters.
In the foreground, a sturdy tree trunk anchors the composition, its rough bark contrasting with the delicate tracery of branches above. Yesterday I was fortunate enough to come across this Sac Spider while out searching for subjects to Photograph.

These are in adundance in my area along with their leaf curling relations. I wanted to make a portrait of one so I decided to at least try.
She had molted notlong before getting her in front of the camera.
As spiders grow they shed their outer layer of skin and emerge with a new one and also larger. In this process they also regrow lost limbs.
When they first emerge the skin needs to dry out and harden. At the start of this they are a different color to normal and it doesnt take long before the color changes.
I was lucky to get this girl before her outer layer of skin changed. I spent a bit of time on this focus stack with cleaning up bits missed by myself and the software.
Clubiona is a large genus of Sac spiders found around most of the Australia and throughout the rest of the world. They will usually be found under the bark of Eucalyptus where they'll often be seen in clusters, each with their own little silken retreats.
One person asked about the area under her eyes above her Chelicerae and said there is no detail there. If you look at this species from the top ( Dorsal) you will see that the Chelicerae Protrude a long way out and the bit below the eyes hangs down a little. I looked at all of my focus stacks and could not find any with details in that area. Its like a void in there. Possibly after her new skin hardened it could be a different matter.

St Paul's Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge

When I visited London in 2016, unfortunately, I did not step inside St Paul's. I only recently discovered one unique acoustic feature of St Paul's beautifully created dome that fascinated me. The Whispering Gallery is a circular walkway that is 257 steps up the dome from the cathedral floor, encircling the interior of the dome. At the Whispering Galley, a whisper against its curving walls is audible on the opposite side some 30 - 40 meters (on average, approximately 115 feet) away. How amazing! I am neither a physicist nor a mathematician. Based on what I have read, the late Lord Rayleigh discovered this phenomenon, that in a whispering gallery, the sound waves cling to the surface, creep horizontally along a relatively narrow belt around the circular shape of the wall, and travel to the other end of the gallery, thereby amplifying sound.

I am a bit slow posting lately. I am exhausted from doing not much. I was told when I moved in that my unit was testing positive for a long time for Meth Amphetamine but was safe to live in now.
I recently found out that the unit I am in was a Meth Lab twice in a row. I did raise it with my housing person a while ago asking if they where being fully honest with me about things as my health has not been good. All I got back was silence. This coupled with many other things leaves me now trying to figure out how to get some samples tested at the property I am in and seeking legal advice.
I had a great time yesterday apart from the pain while out looking for subjects.
This Australian Native Bee was a lovely find. An amazing sight to see.
