The memorial will stand as a fitting tribute to the 55,573 Bomber Command crew who lost their lives in the Second World War.
The Bomber Command Memorial has been designed by architect Liam O'Connor
The memorial has been built to be modern, yet classical, in Portland stone.
At its heart are the bronze sculptures of a Bomber Command aircrew.
Within the memorial, the space is open to the sky with an opening designed to allow light to fall directly onto sculptures of the aircrew.
The scale of the sculpture as a whole means that visitors will always see the profile of the sculpture against the sky above them, day and night - thus rendering that section of the sky powerfully symbolic for the memorial.

The Vigilant Air Command Warbird Museum is a cool air museum that doubles as an aircraft preservation and/or restoration facility. I had never heard of it until the day I visited - it sounded pretty good, and it was. I hit it shortly before closing on a Sunday evening and had the place to myself. My first impression was how crowded it was. Planes were tightly packed together in the hanger. It was hard to get any photos without getting a bunch of other stuff in the photo. There are also a number of planes outside in the elements. I liked that you can get up close and personal with the planes, but be careful since I almost poked my eyes out several times.
The museum is located at the Space Coast Regional Airport, near Titusville, Florida. Check it out if you are in the area. I took these photos in mid-December 2021.
European Command’s Humanitarian Mine Action:
Moldovan Army Engineers Protect Citizens from 70 Year-Old Killers
NEGRESTI, Moldova: The deadly ghosts of World War II, in the form of unexploded artillery shells, large aerial bombs, mortars and grenades have rested within the dark, fertile soil of the Republic of Moldova for almost 70 years. European Command’s Humanitarian Mine Action program (HMA) allows the Moldovan Army to rid the land of these hidden dangers once and for all.
For three weeks, Moldovan engineers and soldiers of North Carolina National Guard’s 430th Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Company trained side by side and shared the latest tactics, techniques and procedures in eliminating landmine hazards in order to return the land to productive economic use and development.

A true leader builds his vision upon a foundation of precision and understanding. The tools of the cartographer are not so different from the tools of leadership—each line, angle, and measure must be exact, for every detail shapes the grand strategy.
It is in such discipline that empires rise. A steady hand, a clear purpose, and an unwavering focus carve the path forward. Command is not chaos; it is meticulous control.

NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL
APOLLO COMMAND MODULE (MOCKUP)
The Apollo command module is the NASA spacecraft that flew astronauts from the Earth to the Moon and back.
In 1961, NASA awarded the contract for the command module to then North American Aviation. It was a continuation of the "capsule" spacecraft design used in the Mercury and Gemini Programs. The Apollo command module was larger to accommodate three astronauts and used advanced computers and navigational equipment on the longer lunar flights. For most of the flight, the command module was attached to the service module which contained the propulsion, environmental, electrical, control and fuel systems.
Unlike the previous NASA spacecraft, the Apollo command module was built with a docking assembly and hatch so that it could dock with the lunar module. The lunar module would detach and land on the moon with two astronauts leaving the command module and its pilot in lunar orbit until their return.
Thirty-five command modules were built, with 15 of them being launched on manned space missions. These included eleven Apollo missions, three Skylab missions, and the Apollo Soyuz Test Project. The rest of the modules were used in various Earthbound tests or unmanned test flights.
This command module mockup was built by North American Rockwell for the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite during their reporting of the Apollo missions. Made up of surplus command module panels, equipment, couches and other parts, it gave television viewers a visual of the interior of the spacecraft. During the Apollo missions, there was limited live and recorded footage for use by the networks. Mockups, models, graphics and other visual aids were important tools for reporters to help fill in the visual narrative of an Apollo mission.
The mockup was later used in the Ron Howard & Tom Hanks HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon. In the miniseries, the mockup was used by Emmett Seaborn, a fictitious news anchor with the fictitious NTC network.
Technical Specifications (Command Module Without Service Module):
Length: 30 ft-10 in
Diameter: 10 ft-7 in
Interior 210 cubic feet
Weight: 12.251 Ibs. (without service module)
Crew: 3
