This view of southern California was taken by the Apollo 7 crew during their 18th revolution of the Earth, on Oct. 12, 1968. Photographed from an altitude of 124 nautical miles, the coast of California can be seen from Point Mugu southward to Oceanside. Santa Catalina can be seen below the off shore clouds. Details of the Los Angeles area are obscured by pollution which extends from Banning westward for 100 miles to beyond Malibu. In the upper portion of the photograph can be seen (left to right) the San Joaquin Valley beyond Bakersfield, the Techachapi Mountains, the Sierra Nevada, Owens Valley, Death Valley and the Mojave Desert.

Apollo 7, which launched on Oct. 11, 1968, and was nicknamed "The Walt, Wally and Donn Show," was the first crewed Apollo mission to launch. The mission demonstrated the capabilities of the Command and Service Module, mission support facilities' performance during a crewed mission and Apollo rendezvous capability, as well as the first live TV broadcasts from space.

About 14,000 Australian soldiers were besieged at Tobruk in 1941 by German troops under the command of General Rommel. Photographers Damien Parer and George Silk are seen here in a dug-out at the edge of Tobruk Harbour waiting for an air raid. Parer holds a movie camera while Silk has a telephoto lens fitted to his Contax camera. The image was collected by Alan Anderson, who served in the Middle East as a sound engineer in the Commonwealth Department of Information photographic unit under the command of Frank Hurley.

Build notes:

Had built this guy as a superior model of the Seeker, taking and evolving it's design into a bulkier and more formidable looking mech. The head and wearable "eye" design was something I've been wanting

to do previously on the Seeker but was only able to pull it off on this guy (thanks to a droid body). Wanted to actually make it with a full olive green color scheme but apparently I didn't have too much

of it so had to use some old dark grey and DBG so it turned out okay.

The RPG is probably the piece I enjoyed building the most here hehe modeled it like one of those WW1-WW2 military RPGs and really happy with how it turned out.

The bomb bay doors are open on Canada's Bomber Command Museum Lancaster Bomber in Nanton, Alberta. A mock up Tallboy bomb rests in front.

Unlike other Bomber Command aircraft, the Lancaster’s bomb bay was spacious and uninterrupted, and allowed it to carry many varied bomb loads.

The Lancaster bomb bay was famous for carrying the Tallboy designed by Vickers Armstrong engineer Barnes Wallis.

The Tallboy was 21 feet in length and 38 inches at its maximum diameter. Its hardened steel case had a thickness of more than 4 inches in the nose. The tail of the bomb was made of aluminum. The weapon was filled with 5200 pounds of Torpex explosive and the actual detonation could be delayed up to sixty minutes.

Released from the optimum height of 18,000 feet the bomb took 37 seconds to reach the ground, impacting with a speed of 750 miles per hour. During the night of June 8, 1944 the first Tallboy was dropped, causing extensive damage to the Saumur Railway Tunnel, preventing enemy reinforcements including tank units from reaching the beaches of Normandy.

During March, 1945 a larger version of the weapon, the 22,000 pound “Grand Slam” became operational. With a length of 25 feet, 5 inches and a diameter of 46 inches, this bomb required the complete removal of the Lancaster’s bomb bay doors. A total of 41 Grand Slams were dropped during the closing days of the war.

My favorite holiday cactus is blooming again.

It spends as much time as possible on the sun porch. Sensing the cool nights and the shortening/lengthening days has really made it happy. It bloomed twice this year.....in the fall and again in the spring.

"Schlumbergera is a small genus of cacti with six species found in the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil. Plants grow on trees or rocks in habitats which are generally shady with high humidity and can be quite different in appearance from their desert-dwelling cousins."

Tactical Air Command was formed on 21 March 1946 and was in operation until 1 June 1992 when it was absorbed by the new Air Combat Command.

In order to establish a presence along the Trax Tube and across the entire sector, several command cruisers has been dispatched from Daalang. The modified Arquitens-class Command Cruisers has proven a favourite command ship among Triumvirate commanders. The starship is lighter and more nimble than the bigger destroyer counterparts, and serves the purpose perfectly.

Apollo 9 Command/Service Modules (CSM) nicknamed "Gumdrop" and Lunar Module (LM), nicknamed "Spider" are shown docked together as Command Module pilot David R. Scott stands in the open hatch. Astronaut Russell L. Schweickart, Lunar Module pilot, took this photograph of Scott during his EVA as he stood on the porch outside the Lunar Module. Apollo 9 was an Earth orbital mission designed to test docking procedures between the CSM and LM as well as test fly the Lunar Module in the relative safe confines of Earth orbit.
