The semi-collared flycatcher (Ficedula semitorquata) is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family, one of the four species of Western Palearctic black-and-white flycatchers. It breeds in montane forests of the southeastern corner of Europe (Balkan Peninsula) to Northwest Iran. It is migratory, wintering in Central and Eastern Africa. It is a rare vagrant in western Europe. Tracking studies using geolocators have revealed that weather conditions during spring migration can have a large impact on the timing of Semicollared flycatcher migration and survival of adult birds
Balance of May garden journal shots. It's been a spectacular spring.
In their second year, they are providing lots of greens.
Geastrum cf triplex. I came across this Earthstar fungus which someone had obviously placed on a tree stump, so I can't be sure whether it grew in this location. It was in a wooded steam valley in Leeds, West Yorkshire. As far as I'm aware this species is not common in Yorkshire so it was an interesting find. Photo taken with my smart phone with minimal post processing.

I got a nice surprise today...went out in my front yard and a dove flew out of the tree. When I looked up in the tree there was still a dove sitting in the nest!!! This is the first time to my knowledge that we've had a dove nest in our yard!!! Usually the the Gold Finches and Cedar Wax Wings are the birds who nest in our yard...I'm quite excited to know there's a nest and dove to watch now!!! This is one of the mating pair in my image.
