Just the thing for a cold night...a big bowl of Taco Soup! Yum...see recipe posted below. Quick, easy and delicious - feeds a crowd! We cook ours in a big, black iron pot, which seems to make everything taste better!

Taco Soup

2 Lbs. Ground Beef, Browned & Drained

2 Cans Ranch Style Beans (do not drain)

2 Cans Whole Kernel Corn, drained

2 Cans Diced Tomatoes (do not drain)

2 Cans Fiesta Nac...ho Cheese Soup

2 pkg. Original Ranch Style Dip Mix

2 pkg. Taco Seasoning

Combine all ingredients. After bringing to a boil, reduce heat & simmer for at least 30 minutes, allowing flavors to meld. Serve over corn chips, garnish with grated cheese, sour cream, green onions and cilantro.

Note: For a little spicier taste, use Rotel tomatoes w/ green chilies instead of regular diced tomatoes.

Note: If you need to make this go farther, (for a big crowd) just add a can of beef broth & a couple more cans of the veggies.

Note: For those who are health concious, this can be made with ground turkey, chicken breasts, or (gasp) no meat at all!

Due to a recent incident in the neighborhood, some people have become xenophobic when seeing someone dressed like this. Actually I have to put myself in that category today when I saw him walking down the street. This was one of the nicer days we've had this winter - no need to be bundled up like this today. I've seen others out in sweatshirts and jeans.

I was trying out the insulated Ethel Gloves yesterday while doing a bit of winter gardening. I'm testing them out for them so they can make changes as needed. I figured harvesting my beets in 20 degree weather would be a perfect test.

Edit: I feel like I should explain a little- we have chihuahuas and up till last year, we had a German Shepherd (she passed away last October, she was around 16 years old, rescued from a puppy mill). Anyway, I'm pretty good friends with the royal falconers from

Flight of the Raptor, and I asked them, years ago, what kind of danger our chis were in from the pair of nesting redtail hawks that lived somewhere in the public golf course behind our house. They told me that under normal circumstances, not too much. Adult hawks don't generally prey on pets, especially if there's a larger dog with them or a human standing nearby... BUT!!! But- if they ARE a nesting pair (they are) then the dogs would be fair game to adolescent hawks who usually panic a little when the weather changes. So, we never just tie our dogs up or even just let them out unattended. And if I see the hawks anywhere, they come inside immediately.

Well, about six months ago, our little cow-print dog, Beefy, got loose somehow. If you go to that photo I linked, the whole story is right there.

I stay outside with my dogs to make sure there are no birds of prey sizing them up for food.

Belvedere Castle is a folly in Central Park in Manhattan, New York City. It contains exhibit rooms and an observation deck, and since 1919, has housed Central Park’s official weather station.

Belvedere Castle was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1867–1869. An architectural hybrid of Gothic and Romanesque styles, Vaux's design called for a Manhattan schist and granite structure with a corner tower with conical cap, with the existing lookout over parapet walls between them.[1] Its name comes from belvedere, which means "beautiful view" in Italian.[2]: 162 

Belvedere Castle was built as a shell with doors and windows open to the weather.  Originally, the main tower had a more medieval design, with a weather antenna on top, but during the castle's 1983 renovation, the tower was restored in a German style with a flag, a weather vane, and an anemometer on top. The two fanciful half-timbered wooden pavilions deteriorated without painting and upkeep and were removed before 1900, but restored in the 1980s.

Starting in 1919, Belvedere Castle housed the New York Meteorological Observatory, which had been taken over by the United States Weather Bureau. The current weather station in Central Park, an Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS), is located immediately south of the castle, though wind equipment is still located on the main tower.

Part of the Winter Hiking series put on by Columbus Metro Parks. This hike was at Blacklick Woods.

Goulburn in southern NSW rarely sees snow, but this year there were three falls. This final one happened in mid September, and was not predicted. These images were taken almost three hours after the snow stopped falling, and had already lost it's intensity on the ground.
