A most fortunate trip early this morning. I had no plans going to bed Friday night but have been waking up in the middle of the night rather often lately ever since going to Eastern Daylight Time. So when it happened today at 4:30 AM I decided to put it to use. One problem with these darkness trips and hikes is nowhere open to get breakfast fast and I'd need something substantial for sure. The great thing about right after the time change is the sun comes up really late, so I cooked a big meal.
Turbo and I drove up to the Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area near Buena Vista, VA and took the Appalachian Trail south up to Cold Mountain. It's a "bald" area similar to what is found around Roan Mountain in NC/TN. Pretty much a 360 view and there aren't many places in VA with a better shot of the rising sun. I wasn't sure how it would be since there was a lot of overcast where I live and on the drive up. It's about a 1 mile hike to get up here and did it just as the glow of day started. Only had to wait about 15 minutes until the sun came up, and the sky just kept getting better. I stayed around taking pictures for perhaps 45 more minutes and could have stayed much longer.
We rode home on the parkway stopping at the good overlooks and also went for a flower walk at the James River. It's the low point of the parkway and thus spring happens in that area first. We ended up seeing Dutchmans Breetches, Cutleaf Toothwort, Spring Beauties, Bloodroot, and Star Chickweed. Best photo trip I've had in awhile and don't know how long it's been for that nice of a Saturday.
It's cold winter now, today when i came across the bridge near embassy, i saw some persons were playing on the frozen icy lake.
Maybe a lovely day for somebody~
Finally making it near the top, it all looked so impressive. Yet, as often happens, photographs just can't do it justice.
When the sun is shinning but the wind is still blowing and the temperature is not right for a swimsuit an alternative is necessary. Shorts are always an option, jeans never.

Cold February morning walking around looking for compositions when my eye was caught by this tree being highlighted by the light. Still full of character even though being leafless.
Visited my old house mate today. Felt nostalgic being in my old house, room, neighborhood, local pub... I miss it. Went into town that night for dinner at a tapas bar I've been wanting Steve to go to. OoOo it was so nice! Although this garlic sauce I had was like coming out of my pores the rest of the night! lol. It was so strong, but so good.
It was like -1C last night too, omg. Absolutely freezing. It's been artic temperatures here! Frost on the ground well throughout the day. However, still managed to take a few snaps... no tripod, hence the lack of focus, blurriness... and well, I guess I'm just in the mood to over process ;)
Also.. there was a light on over a doorway, just opposite where this was taken, hence the highlight on the right pillar... want to maybe go back and cover it up to reshoot this, but not sure since it's private property hehe ;D

oh, and p.s.... I was trying to model the bag? lol It was a Christmas present from Steve's mum, and I absolutely love it!
It was Halloween. I got out of the house so I wouldn't have to put up with the dog's barking whenever the doorbell rang. I froze my hands numb, but it was worth it :)
Oh, and the looks you get from old men on weird roller skates while you hold a toy camera are hilarious.
On my "Stadium Journey", I visited MetLife Stadium, home to both the Super Bowl champion New York Giants and New York Jets.
Standing tall, MetLife Stadium will make history and be the first "cold weather" state to host a Super Bowl in 2014.

On my way home.
I boil water for food that i need energy from.
In a few hours it will be completely black. I do not have any kind of light with me or tent or sleeping bag. If I´m not back to the car before it gets dark , I will be in a cold situation that I do not want do be in.
I went like crazy down the mountain and saw that darkness was faster
than the DEVIL himself. A few hundred meters left, it went pitch black.
I stumbled forward and was certainly a good laugh if someone had seen me.
After a while i came to the road, and bet on a left turn.
After about 10-15 minutes i got do the car ;))) LUCK...
I went to Cold Stone Creamery for the very first time. Pretty good and soooooo many options you can try, it can get overwhelming. I tried the Oreo overload, which has lots of oreo, delicious ice cream, chocolate sauce and in a waffle bowl. Much better than DQ's blizzards or whatnot, but quite pricey
