Came back of a trip from Viña del Mar to Punta Arenas, a wonderful flight through channels, mountains and glaciers.
This glacier belongs to the northern ice field, originating in mount San Valentín, the same one other ice tongues flow from, like San Quintín and San Rafael, the most famous and easily reachable by sea.

it's F'in cold out there!!!
i'm a big fat wiener when it comes to cold weather. like a cat in water ~ don't like it!
i get to look like this all week... yippeeee.
but i'm off tomorrow, and other than running some errands - i plan on staying in.
Due to insulation we had blown in the attic last year, we had to install CFL's in the ceiling spotlights to reduce the temperature. I'm not much a fan of CFL's, as they are still not a very good bulb (slow warm up, far less than advertised life, expensive, and questionable carbon footprint reduction as a result of much higher manufacturing effort and said short lifespans). They are useful in some situations where they'll deliver good results, but they are not a universal solution, IMHO- still waiting for LED lights to come down in price for that.
These spotlights take about 2 minutes to come to full brightness- I noticed that when I first turn them on, the end of the spiral internal bulb is not yet glowing, so thought it would make an interesting picture.

Map at the Cold Harbor NPS visitor center, from the famous 1864 campaign, last battle in Grant’s Overland campaign; from here he will move quickly south across the James River to try and seize Petersburg; managed to surprise Lee, outflanking him. Point of this photo and similar ones is that this ground had already been extensively fought over in 1862 during the Seven Days; the armies returned to the area in late winter, spring, and early summer of 1864.

This is a coal tit (scientifically known as "Parus ater") on a bird feeder. It was a very cold day; snow was on the ground. The photo was taken at the Strathspey Heather Centre (you can guess what the centre is about!), between the Scottish towns of Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey, in that area of Scotland known as Strathspey because of the river Spey.
The Cold Spring waterfront has become a tourist destination and provides extensive views both up and down the Hudson River. It was an important site in the American Revolution.

When skiing many years ago our Austrian ski instructor commented that my friend had a 'dangerous nose' ... in other words close to frostbite. It was -25 and everything on our faces were frozen with a layer of ice. Happy days!
I had two shoots today...one was lame and one you don't want to see...so no new photos from me today...except this one...and no it's not a weird angle...i am just that wide...I like to think I'm being wide for two :)
I have to add...that I really do like being wide! I am happy to be wide and will be happier to get much wider! I love my baby belly! I really really do!
Not a winter bike, I did ride one like this all year in my youth. (In the 1970's.) When it was -25C people I worked with must have felt sorry for me, they called and offered a ride in. I don't recall being cold or uncomfortable. I did use the laneways and less used streets - didn't want to crash and land in front of a bus.
I'm sure the chain & lock were worth more than than the bike.
