Cold and mostly grey

I had a photographic itch to scratch and had to get out to see what I could find. Sweeping landscapes were not in my thoughts today as it was cold and overcast and for some reason the moor didn't appeal. I went for a drive in the other direction -- up to the Blackdown Hills -- and found this old derelict building standing out against the snow.
I don't normally say this but, due to the snow, probably best on black.
I hiked a large hill in the snow to take this bracketed shot, I was hoping as the sun rose I would have captured some pinks and purples alas it didn't happen. I am still proud of the results and will continue for the perfect HDR.

High up in the Rocky mountains a cold stream rushes with recent mountain snowmelt. This autumn the creek will be as warm as it will ever be (still very cold though) so I hope to get some bikini portraits at this location.
The surface looks like rusted iron. However, it is a rotten ash log. The holes were made by insects.

You know it's cold when you see the birds tucking their feet up into their body. Poor little things, I don't know how they do it and I wish I could of stayed out there longer today feeding them but when it is minus 16 with a wind chill of minus 23 you can only take so much. Yet these guys are out in it 24 hours a day!! You really have to hand it to them, we like to think we are so great because we invent things like fireplaces and other heating sources, but what would we do if we could not use those heating sources? Shiver to death, that is what would happen to most...
Though this shot is taken in may this year,
this is what the mornings look like once again over here.
These fellas won't be frosty much longer, since it's the first morning sunlight I caught them sunbathing in. Hard to tell but you can actually see some shadows here and there.
