Taken last weekend at Carn Brea, a freezing cold evening, but worth it.

The Canadian Museum of Science and Technology will be removing two of its iconic lawn displays for safety reasons.

The Atlas Rocket and oil pumpjack have been a part of the museum for more than 40 years, but are deteriorating and must be dismantled.

"Both have weathered the elements for 40 years," said Olivier Bouffard, spokesman for the museum. "The decision to remove them has come down to safety."

Sorry - another one - I love these cold and frosty mornings! Nothing special - was in a pre school-run rush!

I saw this dandelion in the end of october, and I´m sure it must be the last one this year. The seeds was filled with ice drops which looked like diamonds.

Today was one of the coldest day this winter. I'm feeling down, and a little sad. I want a day just for sleeping in and forgetting the world. At the same time, sleeping is such a waste of time, and I've wasted most of my life.

I wonder if the vending machines keep the Pepsi warm in wintertime, to prevent freezing . . .

The Carvers Gap area is a favorite hiking destination for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Hiking trail North there are several open balds which offer stunning views. This area is very busy with hikers on any given weekend. Hiking trail South is the 3rd tallest mountain on the AT. Roan High Knob is at 6285 feet but offers no views. The highest shelter on the AT is here but is temporarily closed until it can be repaired (Hurricane Helene has halted the repair effort, possibly until 2026). Cloudland is a mile further South, where the Cloudland Hotel once stood. There are nice views here. Evidently, this area has recently been designated a National Recreation Area as the new sign suggests.

Snow was in the forecast, even for the lower elevations, on this 1st day of Winter. So I was certain it would be interesting at Carvers Gap (5512’). The weather is always challenging here, especially if it is windy and it is often windy. I’ve been up here in worse conditions, even during Trail Maintenance events. When dayhiking in these conditions, I’ll likely opt to head to the shelter and then Cloudland. Although still cold, the trees offer a break from the wind.

It's been a while since I uploaded a photo of a Deltic, so here's a suitably seasonal one!

Bracing for the cold weather and rain.

Makes me shiver just to look at this dove.

With winter comes pale blue, cloudless skies most mornings. On this particular morning the air was bitter and the wind punishing. One of those morning where you just know that you'll have to work hard to find something compelling enough to shoot.

I was on my way home for the day and decided to pass by this area, knowing the sun takes longer to poke over the trees here. I liked the light and spent some time here shooting around. As is the rule...if I woke up to shoot, I'll post here...need to rationalize my behavior somehow.

Enjoy!

You know it's cold when salt water freezes.

Ice cold... opposite to my warm feelings towards all the great people I've 'met' here on this site. I haven't forgotten you, but I'm real short on time at the moment... and in that situation, something has to give... I'm sorry to say that Flickr is that something. But I promise to try and find some time soon... ;-D
