Man it's hot today as I post this in June 2021. So let's go back six months to a cold crisp day standing on a bridge over the Connecticut River right between the Granite and Green Mountain states.
After plowing 50 miles up and over the Green Mountains from Rutland, the Vermont Rail System crew has arrived in Bellows Falls. This view looks north off the closed Vilas Bridge at the 1899 twin arch former Boston & Maine stone arch bridge across the Connecticut River gorge and falls between North Walpole, NH and Bellows Falls, VT. The 263 crew that normally turns back at Riverside yard has come all the way into town, crossed the NECR diamond and is about to enter the old B&M North Walpole yard so the plow can be spun on the turntable in front of the former B&M roundhouse visible above and to the right of the plow. The DASW (Bellows Falls) switcher crew will assist with the move to get the 1954 vintage ex CV Russell plow X106 spun so the crew can wing their way back west across the old Rutland mainline.

Well, not so cold, but very wet because of the fog anyway!
I'll be off for a while, am leaving for London today to be at Farnborough air show. See ya!
Just west of Blue Mountain Drive and the hotbox detector at MP 22.6, the westbound Zephyr is having no issues moving along at track speed in the continually-falling snow. Without question, passengers aboard the Zephyr are going to have a better experience on the trip west today compared to folks driving in the high country on I-70!

The end of the day on Cold Moor in the North York Moors. Both the Cleveland Way and Coast to Coast walks use this path.
Just a few weeks ago, winter trees covered the high mountains. Hopefully spring will soon bring beautiful pale-green life.

I’ve got a cold, cold feelin; It’s just like ice around my heart.
I’ve got a cold, cold feelin; It’s just like ice around my heart.
I know I’m gonna’ quit somebody, every time that, feelin’starts.
You treat my like a prisoner, because my hands are tied.
Everything you do to me, is stackin’ up inside.
It’s a cold, cold feelin’ Yea, You’re just like ice around my heart.
I know I’m gonna’ quit somebody, every time that, feelin’starts.
There’s a change in me baby, once I was blind but now I can see.
There’s a change in me baby, once I was blind but now I can see.
I’m gonna’ put everybody down baby,
That ever made a fool outta me.
Dark days -
Well as the second day without heating progresses - it's time to start wearing a hat indoors.
Fortunately the UK is undergoing a "warm" spell and the outside temperature is 12C, indoors it has dropped to 14C (mainly as a result of having open and close doors as we go about the day to day business of life).
My 99 year old mother-in-law feels the cold badly and normally has her part of the house at 30C has been complaining about the cold. She doesn't seem to remember that the heating is broken for more than about 30 minutes - so she is repeatedly asking me to "turn the heating up", (An electric fan heater is no substitute for a couple of big central heating radiators).
Hopefully the engineer will get the heating back on soon.

I recently returned from a 5 day trip to the Tetons where I spent most of the time with Chip Phillips and a couple days with Kevin McNeal as well. The weather did not give us great conditions everyday but I did come home with a few keepers. It was quite unseasonably cool including one sunrise where we encountered snow flakes when leaving our tents. I said I wanted more winter like weather a few weeks back so I guess this was a case of be careful of what you ask for.
This was our first evening in the park. This is Jenny Lake and she is not often this calm at sunset but was for us on this night. This was a last miunte scramble since we had just arrived before sunset. I had shot a few setups and none really worked. Then I came across this branch and it was the perfect FG element. I took this image when I found it and then realized I needed to move it to get the mountain peak reflection in the shot. Well that did not happen. I could not get the stick placed just how I wanted it before the light was gone. As it was this was a 25 second expsoure. I kept the cool blue tones since it was a cold evening and no warm colors in the sky.
