The great thing about winter is the absolute lack of people out early on a cold day. I skated my way onto the dock and had a seat and went low and wide.
Really cold - all the cars had thick white sparkly coats, and the meadow was monochrome. The frost took a while to melt, even when the sun came out (and it did, we had another day of clear blue skies).
The first month of 2025 has been an essay in how cold we can get! Although we are on the same latitude as Moscow, we do have the warming influence of an ocean around Scotland's shores. So we probably shouldn't complain, but of course we do 😊
-16c was the lowest we managed - and snow a foot deep. So we were quite home-centred, and shooting, even in the garden, was quite an adventure. After keeping ourselves warm, we spent a lot of time trying to ensure our garden birds survived too. Icy weather for a few days is not too bad - but when it extends to 2 or 3 weeks, they were suffering. Both water and food froze solid so quickly!
So there are a lot of white images in the monthly collage! I used one snow bokeh image as the background for the collage. Happily the group challenges gave me inspiration for indoor and tabletop still life shots, as we felt the memories of 'lockdown' returning 😊
February is beginning with the same sub-zero world, though much of the snow has gone. But we are looking forward to a very early and very warm Spring! Well - we can dream!

This is what -28F looks like! We're getting our first cold snap of the winter here in Fairbanks.
But it's also the alpenglow time of year when the sunlight turns everything to a reddish glow.
The Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site at Hyde Park, New York was built and used as a vacation home in the country. It is on the cliffs above the Hudson river, which, big as it is, was smoothly frozen over and covered with snow. There was a bitterly icy wind driving snowflakes past the classical style urns on the porch, and the lions head symbols high on the limestone facade. Even expensive things get cold, I suppose.

It seems like Spring managed to get here, but not before a bit more cold weather than we are used to. I’ve not had adequate time to whine about it, nor to post the few images I managed to get while it was here. Here’s one of a local pond with a small flock of resident ducks. They would probably whine about it, too, if they could.
Sitting out the winter weather near Auckengill, Caithness, on 18/1/2024 is this once fine Ferguson tractor (think its a Ferguson, colour a bit random but don't think it's a MF35).
I took drive to drop off some xmas prezzies and wanted to take some pictures with the snow, so I brought my cameras along. It was a foggy windy day, I trekked out to this spot to snap a few quick pictures before heading back for the warmth of my truck.
for weeks now i'm trying to "capture"gooses in flight..so every %^$# morning i'm in the fields (well..not every morning..the ones when i hear my alarmbel..;D) searching and waiting for those damn birds...but no....and when i'm on my work ..the whole day i hear gooses fly over grrrr ...once i capture them..;S

The cold air is always coming out of these rocks even in the summer.
In the cold air, people are walking like zombies.
