Basin Tree frog (Boana lanciformis) - Finca las Piedras, Madre de Dios, Peru
I'm not used to being in the jungle and being cold. But during my last trip to Peru, my time there intersected with some friajes, arrivals of cold air masses from the South. Temperatures dropped dramatically and stayed low for several days at a time. Venturing into the jungle at this time was eery; no buzzzing insects, no calling frogs, and little activity. However, with some perseverance or stubbornness it was still possible to locate cold blooded critters. This Boana lanciformis was so cold and sluggish it didn't react at all to my approach and me photographing it from just a few cm away.
Yesterdays beautiful Sunrise, had a hot cup of tea, sparkling cold frost everywhere and the most stunning scenery, have a great Tuesday everyone :)
Een wandeling over het strand tussen Zandvoort en Bloemendaal met een beetje mistig zicht en een net iets te koude wind.

Very early morning by the River Nene at Nassington ,Northamptonshire..Very very cold ...But the beauty around me were worth getting up early and I wrapped up warm.
Ice cold water crashing onto black stones under a pinkish-blue sky. And ice cold air, too, for that matter. But nonetheless, I just had to climb up onto those slippery stones to get close to the action and catch another impression of that wild and beautiful roughness on Lofoten islands during the arctic winter. Don't try that yourself, it's... kinda dangerous ;-)

The surreality of high dynamic range photography gives 'life' to the dry and deep cold of that winter day.
Something about the cold and lonely look as he stood there in the winter wind and cold just grabbed my heart. It was snowing and the snow was sticking to his fur.
Not only did this scene on top of Niagara Falls take your breath away with it's frozen beauty, but the cold temperatures literally took your breath away, too.
It's early on the morning of January 2nd 2026. L591's crew was already hard at work cleaning the backlog of cars accumulated in the yard since Christmas cancellations. With only one working cab heater aboard GTW 6226 and minus 4 degree Fahrenheit winter trying to fill up the already cold cab thru every holes and cracks, heavy winter coat and hat are mandatory in cab that day as showing by engineer trainee S.P.
Outside, sub-zero temperature and the ever-present windchill kept the ground crew quite busy dealing with rock-solid air hoses, frozen angle cock along with switches.
You bet S.P feel quite lucky escaping an another winter working the ground and filling up the right hand seat, up toward the spring season.

Actually, ducks do have cold feet!
As blood is supplied to the feet through arteries, some of the heat is exchanged with colder blood returning from the veins. This reduction in temperature of the blood supplied to the feet servers to reduce the amount of heat lost to the environment. The physics is all about delta's - the lower the temperature gradient between the ducks foot and the cold water, the lower the heat loss. Here is an article that provides a good explanation.
