I recently picked up a Yashica FR-II that came with a ML 50mm f/1.7 (this photo taken with it) and it's far better than the cheap DSB 50mm f/1.9. The camera even worked perfectly...except I broke the circuit board trying to clean the viewfinder. But that's ok I only only $38 for the pair. The lens is worth double that.

A nice morning on Kinder with a Stephen Powers. It was cold, very windy and the sky was clear but there were nice patches of ice about. Too windy for a tripod and struggled to get sharp images but think this came out ok.

Oh, and yes, .... occasionally we get snow in Western Oregon. In fact we are suppose to get more this evening....
The prevalent winds in the Northern Hemisphere blow over the Great Lakes, picking up moisture, and dump large amount of rain or snow on the coastal counties. This is known as "lake effect". A good example is the Buffalo NY area where they have record levels of snow on a regular basis.
Here is Northern Michigan, we have our "snow belt" where higher amounts of snow are expected. This is highway 131, south of Petoskey where, for a few seconds, the road was visible! And yesterday, the temperature didn't get warmer than -16 C.

LNER 04 60361 has just passed under the A46 at Thurcaston and steams towards Leicester North GCR on a freezing cold and misty January 11th 2003.
When I was in Oxford back in the late sixties, I lived in Digs and from time to time when my landlady was not around she would leave a "cold dinner plate" in the larder for me. Always good! Confession -- this is not real ice but rather "prop ice" made of acrylic for use in photos and movie sets. For the Smile on Saturday challenge: "Presented on a Plate."

I can't remember what possessed me to drive to Lexington at the end of December. But as always, it was worth the trip.
