No, not a beer, a rosebud! :)
The surprise Halloween snowfall and cold temps left some unusual beauty all over since most of the leaves were still on the trees. Sorry for so many photos of my short walk at the park on a 25F degree morning.
As the sun hadn't made it into the tree lined confines of the line south of Kirkham Abbey there was still a lot of frost along with a little mist along the river valley.

The prevalent winds in the Northern Hemisphere blow over the Great Lakes, picking up moisture, and dump large amount of rain or snow on the coastal counties. This is known as "lake effect". A good example is the Buffalo NY area where they have record levels of snow on a regular basis.
Here is Northern Michigan, we have our "snow belt" where higher amounts of snow are expected. This is highway 131, south of Petoskey where, for a few seconds, the road was visible! And yesterday, the temperature didn't get warmer than -16 C.

When I was in Oxford back in the late sixties, I lived in Digs and from time to time when my landlady was not around she would leave a "cold dinner plate" in the larder for me. Always good! Confession -- this is not real ice but rather "prop ice" made of acrylic for use in photos and movie sets. For the Smile on Saturday challenge: "Presented on a Plate."
St Michael's Church in the village of Cold Kirby
The present building was erected in 1841. It replaced a much older church, whose origins dated back to the 12th century. The font is the original 12th century one. One of the two bells is from the 13th century. The other is dated 1665, and inscribed "God savee his church".
Cold Kirby is located in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park 5 miles west of Helmsley
It was just me and this deer in the cold shadows at the For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, December, 2024. We finally got some sun so I thought I'd take a short photo walk....and had some company!
These little birds are constant companions in our part of Arkansas. I love photographing them in the winter, because they turn into cute little fluff balls of feathers. This one was striking some poses for me.

A Cold Sunrise
A cold morning a couple of weeks ago in the Moffat Valley just after sunrise. A hard frost in the valley as the sun lights up the distant hills.

Cold, cold heart
Hardened by you (oh)
Some things lookin' better, baby
Just passin' through (no, no, no, no, no)
And I think it's gonna be a long, long time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no, no, no
And this is what I should have said
Well, I thought it, but I kept it hid

It's early on the morning of January 2nd 2026. L591's crew was already hard at work cleaning the backlog of cars accumulated in the yard since Christmas cancellations. With only one working cab heater aboard GTW 6226 and minus 4 degree Fahrenheit winter trying to fill up the already cold cab thru every holes and cracks, heavy winter coat and hat are mandatory in cab that day as showing by engineer trainee S.P.
Outside, sub-zero temperature and the ever-present windchill kept the ground crew quite busy dealing with rock-solid air hoses, frozen angle cock along with switches.
You bet S.P feel quite lucky escaping an another winter working the ground and filling up the right hand seat, up toward the spring season.
