A metaphor.

Completely cold. ... Without emotion.

The use of "stone" to mean "completely" seems to date back to the late 1500's.

Distant shore of Winter white

How you glisten in the light

Standing silently at the side

Of the lake, beautiful and wide

With your trees topped by snow

That look down, watching the water flow

Towards the shore of frozen white

That shines coldly in the light

Each minute out there was so, so, so cold, even without the wind itself, but it was fun as always.

This time I really enjoyed the hiking part, since it was making me just a little bit warmer.

Also, kind of a point and shoot moment, with really few pictures taken. I had to really decide if it was worth it to take my hands out from my pockets to take a picture.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of a cool winter series.

A few months ago I would have said that 137 is seen here splitting the intermediates near Canyon road but that has since changed. Masts and heads gone the only part left of this iconic location along the Galt is the wooden bridge. Despite the stripped scene, CP 137 and its merger power bask in the warm glow of mid day sun as it races west on this cold January afternoon.

I've been sick lately so I just ended this picture :) Thank you Deena for posing <3

Trawler Snæfell, small problem

The Full Cold Moon descends toward the Continental Divide with the Longs Peak group catching the rising sun, taken east of Lyons, Colorado. On the left is Mount Meeker (13,916 ft; 4,242 m), center is Longs Peak (14,259 ft; 4,346 m), and on the right is Mount Lady Washington (13,281 ft; 4,048 m), all in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The last of my family members have departed and returned to the Pacific Northwest, and we dwelling along the Front Range anticipate a few cold, icy mornings in the immediate days to come. The house feels rather empty. I had hoped to take the family hiking up to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park but the Shut Down prevailed and all roads into the Park were closed (although the Park remained technically open).

Technical notes: Two-shot panorama stitch that included the moon right where it is, and a third photo to properly expose the moon. Properly exposed moon was then blended into the panorama over the blown-out moon with layers and masks in Photoshop.

Happy New Year everyone! Looking forward to seeing the wonderful artistic work from everyone here in 2019. I continue to be impressed with the positive, friendly, constructive nature of the people in this digital community.

The last flying Avro Vulcan bomber at one of it's last display flights. Captured at the Scottish International Airshow in Ayr, Scotland, in September 2015.

A slightly grainy handheld capture with my old Canon 7D and a 300mm lens from the shoreline. I remember seeing the Vulcan flying at a display as a child during the Cold War years. The sheer noise and iconic 'growl' of these engines was unforgettable.

Between Vorupør and Hanstholm, the North Sea carves out a coastline surfers call "Cold Hawaii". A stretch of wind, waves, and wild dunes that feels more Pacific than Danish.
