Riding to downtown Victoria after a snowfall. Worked out pretty decently - aside from road crossings, the bike lanes were nicely cleared and easy to ride.

About
Photo was take in Gaishorn, Austria, with view on surrounding mountains to the north.
If you want, you can see it like HDR, but it is not. I took 2 shots from hand with my Powershot A80: once measuring the light on mountains, and once on the ground in front (you can imagine, how alligned these photos were, he, he..).
Photomatix made allignment with this 2 jpegs. It made a very good job! Tonemapped with detail enhancer option.
Photoshop: I cropped away unalligned part, made an curves and a levels adjustment layers, masked a little the sky and buildings in front. Added a little saturation, scaled down and framed the photo.
OK, a little more work, but I like to make things complicated some times. :))

The sun appears, with about as much effect as a candle in a refridgerator. It's after a couple of hours in the freezing cold at the Dongbolizhan yard that our thoughts turn to breakfast and a bowl of hot noodles. Heather Jean absolutely hates cold weather - like anything less than 70 degrees. I was very surprised when she decided to shoot outdoors in 20 degree weather - but she rocked it. She initially started with a gorgeous outfit, froze, left for home then showed back up in a very fashionable winter outfit - and with her dog. Fun shoot and it was great to actually thaw out. We did this shoot the day after Christmas 2021 in the Star River Walk Park.
I've really got into my divided skirts and culottes of late. I'm sure it's the cold weather that's influencing me. I prefer my culottes and divided skirts to be ankle length.
Just as I think skirts look better filled out with petticoats, I always wear pantaloons under my culottes and divided skirts instead of tights.
Diwali is the festival of lights, which, of late, has become marred by the intense air pollution (fire-crackers+cold weather+low wind factor). To take this photograph, I chose the eve of Diwali (i.e., Chhoti Diwali), when the pollution was markedly less. This is an amalgam of three-exposure photographs using a bit of HDR.
Cold Weather Survival Course conducting ice breaking drills in Bardufoss, Norway. Picture: PO(Phot) Si Ethell.
Members of Commando Helicopter Force & Joint Helicopter Command who are deployed to Bardufoss, Norway all complete the CWSC which teaches all military personnel how to live and survive in a cold weather environment whilst operate tactically. The ice breaking drill is the final part of the course where students are taught how to recover themselves and vital equipment should they break through the ice unexpectedly
The participants were introduced to the specialty unit “Mountain Cold Weather Company” through morning PT. MCW is one of the many specialty units Norwich has to offer for any rook or cadet willing to attempt and complete their indoctrination period, which starts in September and finishes in April. After completing the indoctrination period, also known as their “green stick” year, they are welcomed into the company. The company specializes in knot tying and mountaineering in all states of weather.

Have a wonderful day everyone
January 2011, and we had a friend visiting, so we take her over to France for the day. Glorious but cold weather. Some previously posted shots and some new ones too.
----------------------------------------------------
Our alarms went off at a quarter to five this morning; and there was just enough time for a cup of tea before we loaded the car for the short drive, very short drive to the ferry terminal. We live within four miles of the ferry port, and so we were there by six and after checking in waiting in line by five past.
We load up, and are under way right on time. Even though the wind was blowing, the boat harding pitched and yawed, and so we had a coffee and croissant and watched the Channel drift past the window.
Once docked, we drove off and head straight to the wine warehouse; we buy seven bottles of wine and then head to the coast for the drive down to Boulogne.
The road skirts the coast between modern towns and sand dunes before sharply rising onto chalk cliffs higher than the matching ones in Dover. It was a clear day, and we could see the cliffs of home some 23 miles or so away. Looking at my shots I can see South Foreland lighthouse, but to my eye I could just make out the cliffs in the distance with ships passing between us.
We stop at Cap Nez Blanc, Cape white Nose, with stunning views over the Channel and along the coast. The wind blew, and it was mighty chilly. I went on to snap away, before cold hands forced me back to the car and we drove on the Boulogne.
It was midday, and rush hour; we drove round but could not see anywhere to park or anywhere to eat. So, we head back to a nice looking village we had passed.
We find a place to park, in front of a restaurant. We go in, and get a table, and order our food. I had kipper soup (no really) followed by Guinea Fowl and vegetables rounded off with zabaglione with coffee ice cram and roasted nuts. Needless to say, even the soup, was amazing.
We drive to the motorway and then on to Calais, to the supermarket. We load up with cheese, fresh bread and a fancy looking cake, before heading to the port.
Our ferry leaves on time at four, and with the time difference were home by five. We have a cuppa and a slice of the cake we had bought before tucking into sesame bread with wonderful cheese.
Phew, we're now shattered and waiting for the Manic Street Preacher gig on the radio this evening.
