Just before I took this, the net was in the water and shortly before it was hauled out, a group of boys and men (in the background in this shot) who were standing in the water in something of a line, all ran at the net together to chase the fish further into the net.
It's common knowledge I guess that this is the world's highest navigable lake, 3800 m.s above sea-level.
- Something to puzzle over: "New analysis of the language and gesture of the Aymara indicates they have a concept of time opposite to all the world's studied cultures, so that the past is ahead of them and the future behind. ... Appearing in the current issue of the journal Cognitive Science, the study is coauthored, with Berkeley linguistics professor Eve Sweetser, by Rafael Nunez, associate professor of cognitive science and director of the Embodied Cognition Laboratory at the University of California, San Diego."
William L. Fox's research concerns perception and landscape and the transformative power of human cognition. His current topic is the Anthropocene, a new epoch of geological time determined by ecological transformation of the planet due to human actions. Fox's talk will trace the development of earth systems science form Alexander von Humboldt to Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen, who proposed the Anthropocene, and examine the synergy between artists - including Timothy C. Ely's work, currently featured in a large exhibition at the Northwest Museum of Arts and culture - and scientists, as they study, represent, and seek to modify the environment.

Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of some 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract. In 2018, clinical research on cannabidiol included preliminary studies of anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain. It is a largely spoken about topic in the present time.

Scanner (aka Robin Rimbaud) and Stephen Vitiello’s residency investigates the spatial dimensions of sonic environments as a common territory in visual research, music and cognition. The artists traverse the experimental terrain between sound, space, image and form, creating genre-crossing sound pieces that use technology in unconventional ways and disrupt perceptions of the surrounding space. Through this residency, the ongoing investigations of space advanced by the MIT Program in Art Culture and Technology are combined with cutting-edge aural research.
Scanner (Robin Rimbaud) and Stephen Vitiello’s residency is presented by the MIT Center for Art, Science and Technology, Professor Gediminas Urbonas and the MIT Program in Art, Culture and Technology.

In Sonic Bodies, visiting artists Scanner (aka Robin Rimbaud) and Stephen Vitiello were joined by David Shively (percussion) and Jennifer Choi (violin) of the Either/Or ensemble for a performance with live visualizations by Madeline Gallagher. The program explores the resonanced of the body by placing the audience within a group of speakers that shift and sculpt a sonic landscape.

Oppenheimer's Garden 2013
A large scale installation at the Gamut Gallery for the Liminal Cognition Exhibition.
The name Oppenheimer's Garden references Oppenheimer's research on the atomic bomb and the mushroom cloud produced by the nuclear reaction. This installation displays a variety of clouds composed of mushroom's which literally translates this devastating phenomenon, but conceptually offers a contradictory display as the cloud's appear to be living organisms.
I've utilized mushroom's in my previous work as a metaphor for the life force, from it's vitality and inability to be constrained in Heisenberg's Garden, to it's nature with energy in Albert's Garden and now in it's relation to water in Oppenheimer's Garden. All living organisms are mostly composed of water, condensed clouds if you will. Oppenheimer's Garden is in essence, a translation of the life force juxtaposed with the greatest form of destruction we've yet come to know.
By emphasising the dual location of perception and cognition Overlaid Realities merges the sensory experience of the museum with the environment of the ‘other’, hosting participatory relationships, whilst converging interdependent processes.

Yep - that is a computer screen and a very smart orangutan at the Atlanta Zoo. Please read the following from the Atlanta Zoo website about the fascinating Learning Tree Project
"Scientists have long wondered about the true nature of great ape cognition, and a groundbreaking project at Zoo Atlanta provides researchers and guests with an ongoing opportunity to observe the skills of some of the animal kingdom’s most complex problem solvers.
Opened in 2007 through partnership with the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) and IBM, the Orangutan Learning Tree encourages the apes to participate in regular interactions with an on-exhibit computer, engaging in a variety of programs that allow scientists to collect data on their cognitive abilities. Our goal is to learn more about the orangutan social cognition—in other words, their understanding of their social environment. For example, what features do they use to recognize individuals (faces? voices? both?)? Do they recognize group versus non group members? We conduct this research in collaboration with Dr. Robert Hampton and the Laboratory for Comparative Primate Cognition at Emory University. Dr. Hampton’s lab conducts similar work with other species of primates, and we hope to eventually compare performance across species to look for common elements of primate cognition.
Currently, the orangutans are working on a categorization program where they are learning to categorize objects. You can try the same program the orangutans are doing here. "

Hi,
REVEALING THE TRICKS & THE SLEIGHT OF MIND SET WORKSHOP
The real power of Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry lies not with just the tricks, but the effect that the delivery of these tricks have on people, tapping into the emotions of mystery combined with the personal touch. On the workshops and in the packs we give you the tricks, however, learning to use them and turn them into effects is where the real power lies. See mindsways.com/SMS and mindsways.com/the-fascination for more information on doing this.
By delivering the effects that we go through on the workshops, you can evoke the making of the extraordinary. By combining the tricks with the energy of your words, your message and your personality, you make yourself stand out, stimulate fascination and create interest in you. This is when the real magic happens, in the minds of others. We take you on a critical thinking journey that covers from Shamanism to Neuroscience.
To see a few interesting examples of how magic can be used in communication, please see mindsways.com/the-fascination# PsychologicalTED
TRANSFORMING HOW YOU THINK
On our programmes we offer insights into:
How we experience the world
How others see us
How we can influence others
How we can design and create meaningful experiences for others
How you can practically build your personal brand and your reputation
This is illustrated by using a blend of tricks, tools, techniques and ideas from Mind magic and Psychological Artistry. We cover issues and topics such as
The Innovation Gap
Schema Violation
Cognitive Fitness
Psychological Invisibility
Moments of Creativity
FEEDBACK FROM THE PROGRAMMES
The workshops have been enjoyed and shown to be beneficial to many people over the past year. The events have been attended and proved to be relevant to people from a wide range of backgrounds including entrepreneurs, business consultants, health professionals, coaches of life, performance and sports, therapists, hypnotists, trainers etc.
This is an unorthodox approach to understanding human behaviour, illustrating and promoting our messages, but this is where the real power lies. As Marty Neumeier says in ZAG
"Be Different - NO, Really Different"
Feedback comments we have had, such as:
"A truly inspiring experience is how I'd best describe the Sleight of Mind Set workshop."
"I came away with lots of ideas to create drama and interest in my training delivery."
"I got my money's worth after the first session"
"Can't wait for the next one"
"The whole group laughed many times and were absolutely fascinated by each technique."
"The tools here are certainly powerful"
"Nothing but praise. It was a light-hearted and informative day and I was able to go home and immediately try things. The following day I made use of my new information in a therapy session - to great effect."
"I was looking for something different this certainly met my expectation"
"You obviously have something very special happening here"

WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?
To start with there are many definitions of psychology, but the one that sums it up for me is "the science of how we think". Next is the Artistry part, again, there have been many definitions but I like to think that artistry is a blend of:
Creating connection, rapport and emotions
Telling stories
Gaining and holding attention
Producing insights
Displaying human nature
Cognition
Show, Not Tell
Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insights (MMI's)
Therefore, Psychological Artistry is the blending of these two to create a method for successful communication. Psychological Artistry is where science and art meet Mind Magic.
Interesting examples of how all is not as it appears are the McGurk effect and Prof. Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect", a well-known Fred Astaire clip and Rory Sutherland's Perspective Is Everything talk. Please take a look here or go to mindsways.com/SMS. These illustrate both the power and the approach of Psychological Artistry. I would love to know what you think.
