Day 4 in Vienna ... another day with our City Passes.

So we jumped on the U-bahn (the green line) to Schonbrunn Palace.

In addition to the palace itself, which is huge, there are extensive gardens, which include a Palm House, full of exotic tropical plants, and a Desert House.

Just a few steps across the path is the wonderful Palm House.

The Palmenhaus Schönbrunn is a large greenhouse featuring plants from around the world. It opened in 1882. It is the most prominent of the four greenhouses in Schönbrunn Palace Park, and is also among the largest botanical exhibits of its kind in the world, with around 4,500 plant species.

Built of steel, the Palmenhaus is 111 metres long, 28 metres wide and 25 metres high, and has 45,000 glass tiles. There are annexes on the north and south sides, serving as a coldhouse and a hothouse respectively.

Cuban nature in the wild. Guasima trees (Guazuma ulmifolia), Royal palms (Roystonea regia), Guano palms (Indigenous Taino word Guano can refer to different species, not sure which is this one, but it is too tall to be Coccothrinax borhidiana) and Umbrella Papyrus grass (Cyperus alternifolius).

En camino al Valle del YabĂș, al norte de la ciudad,

I knew Coccothrinax Spissa was going to be slow. But I never thought it would be this slow as I already have several Coccothrinax Barbadensis/or is it Fragrans growing and they are relatively fast.. After 1 year, the second leaf is finally emerging on my Spissa. This is one of two. Perhaps in year five it will have formed a trunk and will start to grow faster. Until then, patience will be key and not thinking about it will be even better!
