Stained glass mosaic clock on a recycled glass piece that was part of a light fixture in its previous life.

Glass is shaded from pale bright green to black and, to compliment this, a special grouting technique was used that also shades from pale green to deep green/black. See my blog post for more information and pictures of this clock being grouted: mosaicsmith.blogspot.com/2012/01/more-shading-grout-in-mo...

INSTRUCTIONS OF DIAMOND BRAND ALARM CLOCK

1. Time winding: turn the key in the direction of the arrow.Wind up fully in every 24 hours, and the clock will run 36 hours sequentially.

2. Setting time: turn the knob in the direction of the arrow to the time desired. If it is necessary to turn the minute hand counterclock wise while it is over the standard time,it is essential first to turn it back five minutes less than the time desired, then to set it to the correct time.

3. Setting alarm: turn the knob in the direction of the arrow. Turn the alarm dial (or the alarm hand) to the time desired. The alarm time will show up in alignment with the alarm mark on the clock dial.

4. Alarm winding: turn the key in the direction of the arrow. Wind up fully for maximum sequent alarm duration. Note: When turning the alarm key, the alarm "stop" button will automatically set ou.For the double bell alarm clock, it is necessary to turm the moving end of the alarm shutter to the right.

5. Stopping alarm: (a) for the double bell alarm clock, switch the alarm shutter on the top of the clock to the left; (b) for the other alarm clocks, push the alarm "stop" button in.

6. Regulating time: if slow, move the regulator toward the left "+"; if fast, move the regulator to the right "-". To move one graduation on the scale will function about 6 minutes.

Clocks I made for my Architecture of Objects Course. Inspired by Art Deco style desk clocks from the 1920's - 30's

The clock matched the kitchen really well, so Daniel put it up for me. I love it so much!

They had a nice clock tower in Jodhpur. It's strange, but I never did notice whether it actually kept the correct time or not. As a betting man, I would have bet that the time on it was wrong, but, again, I didn't notice. What I did notice was the bustling market in the area surrounding the clock tower. There was enough there to easily keep me busy for a full day. Plus, it was located right down the street from my hotel, making it an easy stop on the way to the hotel. It was always easier to tell the tuk-tuk driver "clock tower" than Yogi's Guesthouse.

For almost 35 years, this clock has dutifully marked the passage of time from the mantle over my dad's fireplace. This chime is part of the soundtrack of my childhood. The clock can be heard from anywhere in the house.

I was trying to cheat and make it do the hour chime by forwarding the minute hand. But the clock played the 45-after chime instead. It's cranky.

Here I've added the driver transistors and their base resistors.

Soldering these little guys is actually kind of fun. I used to fear the surface-mount components, and still do with some of the really tiny stuff, but overall it's easier than soldering the through-hole components and requires a lot less drilling. The biggest hurdle is that you pretty much have to make a printed circuit board to use them (though I have seen projects by some brave souls who wire them point-to-point).

I mean, I managed to solder these 26 transistors this morning while my hands were really shaky - I shouldn't take stuff like this on until after I've eaten breakfast, I guess.

I use the trick recommended on this page (in the white box toward the bottom) except I use tweezers. Melt a tiny blob of solder on one pad, then take the component up in the tweezers and press the appropriate lead onto the solder blob and re-melt it. That tacks the part in place and you can then solder the other leads really easily.

Once again, I've mostly blobbily oversoldered, but I can live with it.

Lighting:

To capture a reflection, the intended source has to be well lit. I started by aiming 2 flashes where my face would be. The flashes were positioned in front of the clock so the light would not spill onto it. The left flash had a 7 inch reflector+grid. The right flash had a round head (approx 2.5")+barndoors.

To light the rest of the clock I added a flash+softbox behind it on the left, a reflector on the right and another reflector right under the camera.

The Albany Building, Liverpool was built in1856. One of the earliest Victorian offices in the city.

I enjoy crab legs and lobster tail, but man, they are way too messy and complicated to eat. Had that for dinner tonight, and they were also covered in sauce, and I just sort of got sauce everywhere, and it was tasty but stressful. If I ever do that again, I'm gonna do it at home so I can just take off my shirt and really get into it, then shower afterwards. That seems the best way to do it.
