St Joseph's Church (Msida)

Many of the Maltese churches have two clocks, showing different times. We were told one shows the correct time for the religious locals, while the other shows the wrong time to confuse Satan from disturbing the mass. Sometimes the second clock is not even real but a very good likeness painted on the church. Or the hands on the fake clock are missing.

The clocks were really amazing.

Just in time . . . Almost midnight, and I hadn't taken any pictures... Yikes!

İzmir Clock Tower (Turkish: İzmir Saat Kulesi) is a historic clock tower located at the Konak Square in Konak district of İzmir, Turkey. The clock tower was designed by the Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Père and built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Abdülhamid II's (reigned 1876–1909) accession to the throne.

The clock itself was a gift of German Emperor Wilhelm II (reigned 1888–1918). It is decorated in an elaborate Ottoman architecture. The tower, at a height of 25 m features four fountains, which are placed around the base in a circular pattern, and the columns are inspired by North African themes.

The clock tower was depicted on the reverse of the Turkish 500 lira banknotes of 1983-1989.

I had an old Winchester Chime movement clock which I'd been threatening to make a case for for years. So I thought I'd combine my new found interest in Intarsia with a bit f basic wood work to make this.

This began as a scan of a reproduction of a vintage Victorian mechanical birthday card. I set the hands to slightly after midnight and cleared off the greeting line, then added a frame.

The Clock Tower and Big Ben. I think its the colour reflected in the water and the details of the bridge that make it.

The Queen of Time, 1931.

By Gilbert Bayes (1872-1953).

Grade ll listed.

The Queen looks superficially like Athena, holding a little figure of Nike (Victory) in her right hand and a sprig of laurel (also a symbol of victory) in her left. But unlike Athena she wears no armour, and Nike stands on an orb, a regal attribute. She is also winged and stands on the prow of a ship. Her supporters are mermaids holding phases of the moon controlling the tides. The clock supports an Elizabethan ship, recalling the early days of exploration.

The Fairfield State Hospital is a huge place that was built 1933 to house the insane patients overflowing from two other state hospitals in Connecticut. The place is as big as a Ive League School. I am not sure but it must be over a hundred acres and dozens of buildings and houses.

This is a clock tower on one of the buildings. I do not think it was working but it is interesting.

This flip clock makes a subtle flipping sound.

Unlike the regular analog and digital clock, the action of flipping makes us realize how quickly time is passing by. The mind works in such a way that when the change is more visible and physical, it sends a higher priority signal of attention to the consciousness.

In our household, there is no 'tick tock tick tock', it's simply 'flip flip flip'.

The inside of our old wind up clock. I tried to get the pendulum swinging too, couldn't quite get the effect I was after (the pendulum is too dark for one thing). It hasn't been working for a few weeks, but after a tweak has started again - anyone see what's missing?
