With the risk of enraging the community I am applying this photo to the collection. I must hereby swear that this photo was taken by me although not with my own camera!

Due to the pressing deadline I prefer to submit this photo titled "University clock" and subtitled "Pretty blond in B&W"!

I must also add that all the postprocessing work (far from perfect) has been done in Aperture!

New approach to the S2 clock project in evidence here.

So far the brief/analysis/specification pages are produced in much the same way as ever. The radical shift is in the generation of ideas approach. Here we borrowed an idea outlined in Kurt Rowland's 1968 book "The Shapes We Need". Amongst other things Rowland explores spatial relationships and really gets to the heart of aesthetics and visual beauty. Some things just look right and others don't. Why is this? Rowland seems to have a some good theories about this. This book was part of a series he released in the late 60's. I understand these textbooks were standard issue in Glasgow Secondary Schools Art Departments at the time. I don't know of any art teachers that used them much apart from my mother. Anyway this little card based exercise suited our purposes perfectly.

The current S2 course has seeen alot of changes over the last five years. We'll distribute the cours notes on the S2 Course page at: designandtechnologydepartment.co.uk in due course.

Baroque Clock by Cassie V&A

The case of this clock is by Hans Coenraadt Breghtel (1608-75) with movement by Adriaan van den Bergh. It is from the Hague in 1650-75 and is partially gilded silver.

It appears in the V&A exhibition Baroque: Style in the Age of Magnificence.

This clock was made for display as a masterpiece of design and technical virtuosity. The exceptionally fine goldsmiths' work includes richly embossed floral ornament and also silver filigree, a technique of Chinese origin. The design, with complex references to the zodiac, the seasons and the passing of time, presents the clock as a Temple of Life.

i've been staying up too late for my own good. xD that's why this is pratically a midnight posting.

this weekend i went out of town to visit my grandparents. (exchange christmas presents and all, i got a lomo fisheye.) anyway. i will slowly be posting a few pictures i took while i was there. starting with this one.

this is an alarm clock that was in the room we (my sisters and i) were sleeping in. i added the black and white and made it dark. :D enjoy.

Clock and jeweler historian Paul Middents gave a half-hour talk discussing the history of street clocks in Seattle and Bremerton, and focusing on the life and career of Joseph Mayer. Mayer manufactured perhaps 100 street clocks in addition to manufacturing spoons, urns, trophies, medals, streetcar tokens and other items.

The audience at the Kitsap County Historical Society was comprised of street clock fans and experts from around the country.
