Freightliner shed Class 66, 66517 at speed through Chelmsford railway station (UK) with a well laden Felixstowe bound liner.
Note the discarded rails and weeds in the old centre road loop. What a mess!
From fellow enthusiast David's archives and posted here with kind permission.
Possibly an end of roll shot by the looks of things, especially as the light was quickly deminishing.
Nevertheless, nearly 31 years ago sees Class 45 No. 45150 (ex D95, I think this was the last in the 45/1 series) about to head South from York on 13th March, 1984.
Note also the HST approaching and the ubiquitous (around those parts) Class 31.
The Class of 1947 held their 66th Class Reunion in the Red River Village Community Room on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
British Rail Class 142 'Pacer' DMU 142071 with the 10:22 Northern Rail Leeds- York service at the delightful Cattal Station in North Yorkshire (UK).
Note the quaint semaphore signals. This is a 'lower quadrant' semaphore signal and the red arm is the 'home' signal and the yellow arm is the 'distant' signal. The 'home' signal in the 'on' or 'stop/danger' position. A 'distant' signal will generally tell the driver the position the following 'home' signal will show but when they appear on the same post as above it means there is not enough distance between the two home signals to position a distant. So the yellow arm here which would either show off/proceed (up) or on/caution (down) is showing that the following 'home' signal is also in the 'on' or 'stop or danger' position too. In this case it is protecting the single line beyond the station.
I hope I've got this right as the details regarding railway signalling in the UK are highly complex for novices like me. ;-)
The Class 142 Pacer units with their atrocious noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and general ambience levels do nothing to enhance the image of the railways in this area in my opinion.

Heritage traction in B.R blue. Does it get any better? Two of the earliest Class 20s off the production line. 20007 and 20032 rest up at Llandudno Town before returning to Stoke later in the day. I remember this train picked up some really good speed along stretches of the North Wales coast and with the window open and your eyes closed it could almost have been a 40. Almost ;O/

Blue-liveried Peak D186 of Gateshead (later Class 46 46049) stands with other green-liveried diesels at the north end of the depot. Unfortunately the roof top of the engine is not visible (missing on negative). Just visible to the left is D6800 (TI). Behind the 46 is Class 47 D1110 and Class 25 D5177 (both York engines)

July 5th, 1966 - Mirfield
This was a most unusual occurrance in 1966 - Finsbury Park Class 47 D1520 (later 47421) passing Mirfield with a coal train heading west. Note the brake tender behind the loco. At this time the majority of freights were either 8F, Black 5, 9F, Class 37 or Class 40
D1520 / 47421, later The Brontes of Haworth was, for me, was one of the most frequently seen 47s, often on Liverpool Newcastle expresses during the 1980s

British Rail Class 180 'Adelante' Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) 180105 as operated by Grand Central Railway at King's Cross Station in London (UK).
180105 was built by Alstom and entered service in December 2001. The Adelante's have had a troubled history with plenty of reliability and train operator issues.
Note the splendid Victorian architecture which dates from 1852.
