Christian really makes the best soup.

The Fish Market restaurant, San Mateo, CA.

It was really good, but what made the dish was the piece of bread served with it. It had little raisins or something, which normally I would hate, but went really well with the soup.

Mo's have been a Oregon Coast institution since 1946. It is famous for its Clam Chowder which is wonderful.

One of its newer restaurant is the one in Lincoln City, Oregon. It overlooks Siletz Bay which is at the southern end of Lincoln City just off of US Highway 101.

This is the photo looking from a dock that extends into Selitz Bay.

From my old photos. I made this in April, recalling an amazing clam chowder I had in NYC. However, this is a New England style.

By the looks of this fence, there must be an ocean near by.

After two previous trips to Seattle on weekends, and hence, no trip up Columbia Tower (formerly the Bank of America Tower [B.O.A.T.]) aka the tallest building in Seattle, we successfully made it up there on last weeks adventure - just in time for the golden hour and sunet.

One Manhattan Clam Chowder ($6.95) and one Seafood Bisque ($7.95), and the most amazing (thank you OAD members for the rec!) Creamed Garlic Spinach (8 oz for $5.25). I ate all of 2 of these pots (yes I had garlic breath, but it wasn't like I was going to kiss anyone any time soon. LOL), but didn't try the bisque as my dining companion had a cold and dug into the soup before I had the chance to sneak a sample. However the bisque tasted, I'm sure it wasn't going to bring my mouth, tongue and stomach to a higher high than it was in from the fresh garlic and wilted spinach concoction that nearly melted once it hit my tongue. Each sensual bite made my heart melt (and I'm sure there was enough whipping cream in it to harden my arteries that lead to the aforementioned heart) - I never thought near mushy vegetables (besides smooth potato puree) could be such a wake up call to a tired palate.

Delicious and a must order (the soups, not so much). Now I'm left wondering about the Lyonnaise potatoes.

hehe... but seriously, the actual chowder was decent, just needed more clams! we opted to eat at chele's food and spirits restaurant instead of the more popular splash cafe right across the street as that place had a huge line of people. we ate here based on pete's recommendation.

New England-style white clam chowder, cream based with potatoes and pancetta (Italian bacon) seasoned to perfection. Made fresh daily. Served in sourdough bread bowl

our last stop of the night before heading back to the hotel for our sink full of beer on ice, was the aquarium, where andrew kindly snapped a quick photo of Mika and I in front of the christmas lights on the pier.

Finally an actual filming location for Mystic Pizza. I didn't even realize until watching the movie later. Also apparently Amelia Earhart was married a block away. But the reason we went is it was the best-rated Lobster Roll place in the area. The reviews were correct. The setting is amazing as is the food. They also have real Rhode Island Clam Chowder. Perfect end to the vacation.

Split bowl, one of the favorite clam chowder in the Bay Area

they put garlic cheese spread on the "lid" of the bread bowl. sooo bad but sooo good!

A very stereotypically San Francisco thing to eat. I actually ate most of this but the sheer amount of bread meant that there was no way I could completely finish it.

New England Clam Chowder: local clams, fresh herbs and white wine

Most years I try to take a bird trip every spring. I sometimes start at Ron’s place in northeast Arkansas where we go birding during the day at Wapanocca NWR or some other area.

Then I head over to Heather and Leah’s, they are about a six hour drive west of Ron up in the northwest corner of Arkansas.

My birthday falls in mid-May so I’m normally at the girl’s for birthday cake and a meal of my choice.

Ron’s Dad, whose name was Wiley, invented a pot of what he called; “Slam Slaughter”, which is a fish/clam chowder with Salt Pork cooked to a crisp and thrown in as well. My wife, (Ron’s sister.), taught my daughters how to make Slam Slaughter, Lasagna, and Carrot Cake exactly the way I like it.

Although I alternate the requested main course year by year, I always ask for the Carrot Cake, look at it, the reason is obvious… the frosting is as tall as the cake.

FEBRUARY is American Heart Month.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability. In 2010, an estimated 785,000 Americans had a new coronary attack, and about 470,000 had a recurrent attack. About every 25 seconds, an American will have a coronary event, and about one every minute will die from one.

Meanwhile, it's o.k. to enjoy Clams Three Ways (above) every once in a while - especially when you are vacationing along the Connecticut coastline and stop at a clam shack to enjoy clam strips, clam fritters, and clam chowder, as I did one fine day last October. Since that day, all my clams have been steamed, I swear!

So, it was rainy and windy and I was being lazy. Basically, I did not go to Ivar's and instead found a random place inside Pike Place Market. I kept telling myself that Ivar's is just a brand but I still regret not making the slightly longer trek to Ivar's. BAH!

Mo's for yummy clam chowder

Matt Wright, you're lovely.

Matt, Danika, and Drake brought us some of this wonderfulness: clam chowder with pork belly. Oh yeah.

Lucy liked Drake best. We like Matt and Danika best.

But this was right up there.

Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl. A must whenever I go to San Francisco. I like to get it at Fisherman's Wharf.

I also like to put on some Tabasco. With a cold beer a perfect meal
