After the Columbia Center observation deck, and a respite in the Starbucks on the 40th floor of the building to use AT&T's free WiFi there, we headed down to Ivars Seafood Bar for some seafood treats. Reviews of it are mixed, but we reckoned that it was a "Seattle Classic" for a reason, so we went for it.
It wound up being a great decision - the food was amazing (we all had different clam chowders and shared the appetizer trio), the local beer on tap was most excellent, and our cougar server was overly friendly with baby jackson (which brought unlimited amounts of delight to Mika and I).
After that, we checked out the gift shop next door, and Mika was lucky enough to score a kiss from this Wild Pacific Salmon :P
clam chowder, anyone? Another entry for the food moly_x group 57. It's been snowing again these past few days, so something warm might be nice...

365 2023 Never-Ending Journey - Day 267 Sept 24 - 2023
ODC - Into the Beautiful ~ September 24th to 30th, 2023
Since we were going to have rainy weather starting today, he made his awesome clam chowder, from razor clams he dug up, then he grinds and cans them for use in chowder and fritters! So glad him Mom taught him how, since I don't do it!
From Tom's Fish & Chips. I found the fish to be dry and dense, almost like we were having chicken breast instead. We should've spent the extra money and gone to Ecola Seafood instead.
the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful - mika shopped, bought a super cute toque that was on sale at kate spade, andrew and i bought a pre-paid sim card from AT&T for our american adventures (and holy poop are the american rates way better and way easier to get than in canada), andrew and I scored two sweet flannel shirts for $7 each, and we came back to canada to ski at Whistler on New Years Day.
Successes all around!
I do like to recycle and to leave as little trash behind as possible. Being able to eat your soup bowl is one way of achieving this. The sourdough bread bowl is a great example and when it comes with tasty clam chowder (though not in Boston), then it is the perfect departing meal from California.
Jacques Pepin's Clam Chowder (with Butternut Squash, Mushrooms, Pancetta Croutons, Chives) and Mini-Leek Oatmeal Muffins on the last day of 2013.
Yay, I was able to slurp up this one and munch on the smushy bread parts from the inside.. haha.
It was good, but the bowls at San Francisco are so much better :)
Clam chowder and a grilled cheese sandwich, at the Rocky Bay Cafe in Friday Harbor, on San Juan Island.
Early evening at the corner of Main St., Bay View St., and Elm St. in Camden, Maine. Here's a personal recommendation: the food at Cappy's Chowder House is terrific!
