Elsa is dissapointed about today's promts. She swears she gots nothing to dress like Elvis and begged (in vain) for daddy's credit card to buy some new clothes. How daddy dares to say "Elsa, you have too much clothes"?
Of course don't even imagine she is going to prepare, order or try a clam chowder... Her exact words were "puaj!"

That mess of pottage is a New England clam chowder (out of a tin), while the Sea Dog Blue Paw beer has added blueberry, another New England staple, from a Maine-based brewer.
I love soup... making it and eating it! I rarely use recipes because I think my soup comes out better when I cook without a plan.
Here's how I make my New England Clam Chowder:
1) Take 5 or 6 large redskin potatoes. Peel them and cut them into one inch pieces. Put them in a large stockpot and cover them with clam juice or fish stock. (I prefer the clam juice, but either works) Bring the potatoes to a gentle boil for about 15 minutes until they are fork tender.
2) Meanwhile, dice 4-6 strips of bacon into small pieces. Cook the bacon with 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pot until the bacon is crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and let it drain on paper towels, set aside.
3) Add one large diced yellow onion to the bacon drippings and butter still in the large pot. Cook until the onions are soft and transparent.
4) Add 1/4 cup of flour to the onions, stir it in thoroughly and let it cook for a few minutes until everything has made a smooth paste.
5) Stir in 4 cups of milk, half and half or cream. (If you use cream, you get a super-rich chowder - if you use milk the chowder is still good and a lot healthier - I usually use a mix of cream and milk as a compromise) Bring the milk mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook it until it is thickened to your liking.
6) Pour the thickened milk mixture into the cooked potatoes and clam juice. Stir gently until everything is evenly mixed. Bring the entire mix to a gentle boil and let it thicken more to your liking.
7) Add salt and pepper (to taste) and a dash or two of hot sauce. Then stir in as many clams as you like. I like to use fresh shucked clams if I can find them, but 3-4 cans of chopped canned clams work just as well.
8) You can also stir in the cooked, diced bacon your set aside earlier, or you can sprinkle it on top when you serve the chowder.

Sourdough was the main bread made in Northern California during the California Gold Rush, and it remains a part of the culture of San Francisco today. The bread became so common that "sourdough" became a general nickname for the gold prospectors. The nickname remains in "Sourdough Sam", the mascot of the San Francisco 49ers.
San Francisco sourdough is the most famous sourdough bread made in the U.S. today. In contrast to sourdough production in other areas of the country, the San Francisco variety has remained in continuous production for nearly 150 years, with some bakeries (e.g., Boudin Bakery among others) able to trace their starters back to California's territorial period. It is a white bread characterized by a pronounced sourness (not all varieties are as sour as San Francisco sourdough), so much so that the dominant strain of lactobacillus in sourdough starters was named Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis. Sourdough also became popular because of its ability to combine well with seafoods and soups such as cioppino, clam chowder and chili.

Domenico's Restaurant on Monterey Wharf looks very serene late at night. I love the steam coming off the clam chowder cart in front of the restaurant. A three shot HDR really made this photo balance out. I hope you enjoy it.
Frankie's Eatery on the Embarcadero in San Francisco is a beloved waterfront destination known for its fresh, locally sourced cuisine and picturesque bay views. The menu offers a variety of seafood specialties, including clam chowder, Dungeness crab, and grilled fish, as well as hearty sandwiches and vibrant salads. The modern, airy interior and outdoor seating provide a relaxed dining atmosphere. A unique highlight is the striking octopus mural adorning the eatery's exterior, adding a touch of marine-inspired artistry that reflects the bay's natural beauty. This vibrant mural makes Frankie's Eatery a standout spot for both its food and its visual appeal.

My wife wanted to do some shopping this morning, so I headed over to the brewery for a quick beer and a bowl of soup
I love swimming in San Francisco Bay at Aquatic Park. To celebrate the 4th of July I drove over to SF this morning, got an awesome parking spot on Bay Street and then swam for about an hour. It felt great. Then afterwards I bought a clam chowder bread bowl at Fisherman's Wharf.
