A small sample into my collection of cigars (Rocky Patel are my FAV :-))). In my opinion there is nothing more nostalgic than an old Bel-Air and cigars, at least I have one out of the two.
Made this assemblage in the class taught by Rebecca Sower. I customized mine and brought pictures of my children and a passage from the Corinthians.

I don't know why but I love old things. I love going through old boxes of obsolete stuff and wondering what the times were like when these were relevant. I once worked in a non-profit, socially and environmentally based architectural salvage and green demolition company. I must confess I always enjoyed opening and going through old boxes of donated things and finding cans of screws or boxes of bolts or ...or cigar boxes of vacuum tubes.
With regards to vacuum tubes, they are absolutely fascinating devices. Their fascinating physics aside, I have always thought they have a wonderful artistic quality. Perhaps the amount of intricate detail encapsulated in them. It is sort of like a ship in a bottle.
I also remember going to the A&P with my dad and testing tubes from the old TV. There was a big board with dozens of sockets and a couple of analog displays showing voltages and such.
Lastly my Grandfather had a gazillion cigar boxes in his house. everything from sewing stuff to old photos was stored in them. To think how many cigars that added up to is unimaginable! Gramps was a wonderful person whom I'll always miss, and whenever I see cigar boxes they remind of Gramps.
Drawing this picture conjured all those memories and thoughts.
I was pretty happy with the framing on this one, it's pretty much how I imagined it. That doesn't normally happen!

This cigar box could not have had the blessing of George Eastman who prosecuted all copyright violators. Perhaps that is why this box is not more common. I have seen old tobacco cards that say "Smoke a Kodak". The front of the box says "Snap Shot" which is a more common cigar box and label to find.
This was an old cigar box I upcycled with scraps of paper and paint...now it makes a cute trinket/treasure box :)

Though not as grand as some of the well known traveling show cases from the Craw and Loupe Brother's Combined Shows, Circus Minimus, this case is quite enchanting nonetheless and quite rare as it dates from prior to the merger. John Craw's 17 Cigar Box Entomological Odditorium and Flea Circus included performing insects of several species and numerous entomological curiosities from around the globe.
These cases were often used as teasers by advance men that traveled ahead of the main circus. Like the Circus Minimus, Craw's Fleas used a combination of practical tricks, magnets and mechanicals along with live performances exploiting the natural behaviors and abilities of the insects.
The stage floor of this case slides out to reveal a padded storage area for the proscenium, magnifying glasses and props. A tube can be inserted into back of the case and threaded through the stage floor just behind the curtain, facilitating the performers' entrances.

Two 4 cent US Postage stamps, postmarked in Eatonton, GA. Date unknown. I found these stamps in a cigarbox of odd and ends that belonged to JigglePuff's grandfather, Mr. Simmee Godbee.
Pop Godbee lived in Eatonton his whole life. Pop was cool, he could fix anything, especially if it was mechanical.
Pop lived through the Great Depression. Living in the country, times were tough. You had to make do and use what you had or do without. I guess that's where Pop got so good at fixing things. And saving things in cigarboxes, you know, in case you needed it later.
The cigarbox was full of other really neat things, but these old stamps just caught my eye.
Shot taken using Canon 20D and Canon 100mm macro lens, handheld, with stamps positioned so as to be backlit by the late afternoon light.

This cigar box is a vintage "Meditation Natural" wooden box. I altered it and hand painted the furniture and accessories to make a little dollhouse world :). The painting technique I used required multiple layers of color and crackle to get this shabby look. Gold highlights were brushed on to give a little sparkle.
I installed a wee operable window, wallpaper, and curtains. The curtains are topped with handmade paper roses, tulle, gold ribbon and pearls.
This sitting room comes with dressing table w/mirror, porcelain tea cup and saucer, mail, LED battery-operated working hurricane lamp, rocking chair w/ handmade pillow, rug, clay flowers in pitcher, and teddy bear.
Size of the box is 6 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 2 1/4". All furniture and accessories are 1:12 scale.

I hate the smell of cigar smoke. It makes me queasy. It is so thick, it almost feels like an evil spirit (Maybe not evil but a really annoying one) is trying to take roost in my own very pink lungs. I smoked a couple cigarettes (literally only a couple) and I actually enjoy smelling cigarette smoke when it is outside, not in a concert space or a restaurant. I remember when Husband and I would go to concerts, we would wake up the next morning and our hair would smell like cigarette smoke, we would cough and hack like we smoked a half pack each and I would feel sick, like I had a cold for a couple of days later.
anyway... I like the boxes. I have several little wood cigar boxes here that I keep small treasures in. Dice, beads, tiny antique vases, small bits of carved wood, vintage jewelry, bits of lace, maybe even a marble or two.
Wooden cigar box from Ed Weiland Inc.. Peru, Illinois. Many communities had local cigar makers, back during the 19th and early 20th Centuries.
Edward Weiland, Sr. was born at sea, November 1, 1854, the son of Christian Weiland (born in Luxemburg in 1825) and his wife Elizabeth Dornbusch (born in Prussia in 1822) He was 25 years old in the 1880 census, listed as a cigar manufacturer. He had been in busines in Peru, Illinois since 1877. He married Mary Eiberger (1858-1937) on May 31, 1881. They became the parents of three children,: Doretta, Edward J., and Anna. Edward Weiland continued in business until his death, December 16, 1925. The record book of the Peru Schuetzen Club lists Ed Weiland among the members during the 1890's and early 1900's.

Substances of which use was made: cigar box, plastic fowerbox (as shutter), black paint, photo cardboard, a needle, a thin aluminium disk, screws, and much enthusiasm.
When I was in elementary school, I would go to the neighborhood grocery, and I would get a cigar box and fill it with candy to give away as a birthday gift. (This quite possibly helped enhance my popularity significantly!)
When I turned 50, I invited seven friends from the past to come to Texas for the weekend. Teresa, who I met in 2nd grade, had searched till she found this antique cigar box, and she filled it with candy for me. 💕

Fire Within Box--this converted cigar box features a beautiful fused glass tile that looks like molten lava. Iridescent gems, glass and stone beads, Van Gogh glass, stained glass, yellow Jade beads, mini tiles, iridescent mini tiles. The inside is lined with pennies in resin.

Used a Cohiba cigarbox to build this cigarbox guitar. The wood I used for the neck is beech and I glued it on the box. My fourth cbg and most likely not the last one.

I've got my colored pencil stock organized into these modified cigar boxes I've made, but I've not had anywhere to easily store them until now.
Very cheap fix. $5 for a 1"x6"x68" board, $10 for a couple iron decorative brackets, $2 the various screws needed and all set. It runs over my closet, and I'll be able to hang new curtains soon from it as well! I ripped out the crappy wooden sliding doors because whoever made the closet in this house wasn't a pro and nothing's square or hung right. I'm lucky I was even able to put in the shelf reasonably level. ;-)
I think it's worth showing off your colors as an artist. They're so vibrant in your art, so why not pretty up your environment too?
My late father was a very keen amateur photographer, - and during the Covid19 close down I found a cigarbox with some old negatives. A scan and a gentle retouch is all I've done.
This photo is from Christmas Eve 1953. The little girl in front is my at that time 4 years old aunt Ilse. The dark-haired girl is my mother's cousin Hanne. The big boy in the corner is my uncle John, - and the boy to the right is my late uncle Kurt.

I just learned of the world of "Cigar Box Guitars" (called CBG, for short) in the past few days and have been reading and watching videos. This is SO COOL, particularly if you like the blues. I followed the directions found on the "Make a Diddley Bow in 20 minutes" video on YouTube (from Down Under) which was GREAT. Amazing what can be done with one string and a spark plug socket.
I'm planning on making a three string CBG, but I need a WOODEN cigar box to do it. (Only the sides of the cigar box are wood in my Diddley Bow).
