We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

The lake turned out to be quite larger than my first impression. And that was a good thing.
In general people love a lake or a pond in a park. And here I was witnessing many folks really enjoying themselves while doing whatever they were doing. Jogging, walking, pushing the baby strollers or simply people watching while sitting on the benches.
I ended up at the spot closest to the sculpture. The water was calmer here because this recess was quite well sheltered in.
Loved the color contrast, particularly aided well by the primary colors of the sculpture, juxtaposed against the blue hues of the adjacent buildings.
To be honest, the very thing that made me highly anticipated to come around to this spot was the wooden posts floating in the lake that I had seen while on the opposite side. It turned out though that they were too far from the shore. Also way too close to the sculpture and the tiny island on which it was built.
Nonetheless, I really liked this particular moment in portrait mode.

Great Western Road Trip 2010 • Day 10
25 Days • 13 States • 6,930 Miles • 6,820 Photos
We started the day at the Norris Geyser Basin. This was the smelliest geyser basin yet! We spent about three hours there. Our next destination: the North entrance. It is amazing, to see how different each side of the park is. On the way up there we finally saw the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep; a couple of ewes and their babies. Wildlife sightings are always a plus with us!!
At the North Entrance is the quaint little Western style town of Gardiner where you can see the Roosevelt Arch; a Yellowstone Entrance Gateway dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt on 24 April 1903. I like one of the inscriptions over the top of the arch: "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People."
After Gardiner, we headed over to Lamar Valley and the Northeast Entrance. But it was getting late, so we decided to head back to the cabin in West Yellowstone. On our way out of the park, we were treated to this glorious and spectacular sunset. The end of another beautiful day in Yellowstone.

To Be A Song; poem 116
I wanted to put something festive up today ... but no time to take anything new!! I have to work today so I'll catch up to everyone's streams tonight. In the meantime, enjoy this enchanting young lady 'reaching for the sky.' I loved this young girl's pose ... and the golden light of the setting sun!
Hope all my friends in the U.S. are enjoying their feasts!! I am so grateful to have family on this day of thanks.
Apparently I ran out of daylight to chase. Not a fan of how dark it's getting so early in the evening. Makes me want to hibernate.
For nearly 40 years, the folks at the Utah Department of Natural Resources have gathered the bison herd on Antelope Island to check their health and manage the population. This annual roundup draws people from all over the world, young and old, locals and travelers. This year, I chatted with a couple from Canada and a gentleman who had come all the way from Argentina.
The rider pictured here was an Utah native who’s been part of the roundup for years. At 80-plus years old, he told me he might only have a few more rides left with his trusty horse who’s now over 20 years old itself. But from what I saw, he looked tough as nails and ready for another day in the saddle.
Before the roundup began, I asked if he’d take a few warm-up laps around the open field. He grinned and asked, “Walk or run?”
“Run, of course,” I said.
And run they did.
From his hat, I’d guess he once rode with the U.S. Cavalry, the kind of man who’s spent a lifetime charging into life full stride, horse and all.
I think the round-up brings back a sense of history. A way to remember and maybe even romanticize today’s cowboys and cowgirls.
Let me stay here in this moment until time stands still and silence speaks its own refrain if you but listen.
Let me hold memory in one hand and joy in the other and breathe in the sweet stillness of hope.
And then, my dear, let my pen sing the songs that my voice cannot. #sweeterpoetry
|| favorite moment of the day, hands down: playing a grand piano in a wine cellar in Mendoza, with prime acoustics and the simplicity of wood mixed with the smell of wine and shadows ||
Do not trouble your hearts overmuch with thoughts of the road ahead. Maybe the path that you each shall tread are already laid before your feet, even though you do not see them.

Droppin' in to say 'hey' to my favorite group! Jackie and I are still on our road trip, and currently hanging out with Kacey & Aurelia in Portland. Love those girls, love their city! They have been gracious hosts and we've had so much fun sight seeing, hiking, eating great meals, having lively discussions on Flickr, Photography and Photoshop .... all accompanied by tasty beverages of course!! :-)
All of us are heading to the coast tomorrow for a couple of days. I can't wait to set my feet in the Pacific again!
This image was taken just before sunrise, out on the boardwalk at Fountain Paint Pot in the Lower Geyser Basin. The Nikon shots are most epic ... and one of the coolest shots was of a bear strolling across the basin in the distance!!
I took this with Camera+ and slid it around a bit on my iPhone with ColorVu! A few of you may have already seen this on Instagram!!
Happy Sliders Sunday ... and now for a little bit of Eddie:
Orbiting at Gerdes
Something circular was placed and left on the junk yard car hood expediting its decay. Once removed, a planet was born nicely orbiting in my imagination. It brings a bit of drama in color and texture along with a sense of motion. Light nicely reveals every nuance.
Single layer (Not a composite) junk yard shot with a touch of added saturation - but not much.

First in a new series documenting the natural beauty of my town.

I was photographing a group of teenagers hanging out on the rocks by the sea. As they waited for the sun to set; the surf crashed at their feet. They were full of life, their noisy laughter drifting up to me on the boardwalk. All of a sudden, in the midst of a huge sea spray, this young lady through her arms wide open ... embracing life ... One of my favorite memories from our entire adventure down the west coast was our first night in California. We stayed at an old, friendly Inn right on the beach and spent the evening searching for sand dollars.
As the sun was going down we finally found one tucked away below the current. It made the trip back with us to Vermont; a keepsake from a perfect evening.
