Took a quick snowshoeing trip overlooking Donner Lake last Friday. I shot these few snaps at the top up by the old train trestles. It was a perfect afternoon and I'm ready to hit the fresh mountain snow again after the next storm.
Still on the road and heading to Carlsbad Caverns this morning to see the bats return to the cave! Haven't had a chance to look at any of my fence shots but I found this one lurking on the harddrive! And you know me; I LOVE Fence Friday!
This fence in silhouette, overlooking a gorgeous sunset; was taken in Torrey Pines State Park in La Jolla, California!

Arrived too late on first day to get any really great shots. Ice was great and got some good dusk and night shots of me on ice. Next morning ice was covered in a skiff of snow. Random sampling located some so-so bubble spots and with some work we got some small areas cleared. The ice seemed to have hazed over night and needed a good day of wind to blow it clear and re-polish it.
Was having trouble with filter holder vignette on wide angle, so reverted to kit lens and ND4 filter plus a graduated ND. Did my best to grab some shots while crawling around on the ice freezing doing low angle work. Kind of freaky hearing the ice cracking behind me. I think the ice was dropping a bit at the shoreline.
All in all, an amazing experience and worth it, including 24 hours on the road squished into a night and two days. Truly grateful for help from friends with the post processing as I am still learning.
While traveling along a quiet Colorado backroad, I came across this beautiful grove of Aspen trees. The timing couldn’t have been any better, late afternoon light filtered softly through the leaves as spotty clouds drifted above, creating a perfectly soft backlight. And, this is why it’s worth slowing down and letting the road lead the way.
When I’m on a photography trip, I rarely follow a set agenda. Instead, I let the conditions guide me. On this day, I noticed clouds building over a distant mountain range and decided to chase the weather. That wandering path ended up leading me to some incredible light. Ansel Adams once said, “Luck follows a prepared mind.” I’ve found that to be especially true in photography. Knowing where the most potential lies helps guide my choices, but some of the best moments still aren’t planned at all, they just unfold when preparation meets opportunity.

Two of a Kind
A complex pattern of shadows spread in a dramatic array across the facade of a building. Two knobs hide in the confusion waiting to be discovered. Strong textures add to the interest. Monochorome keeps the complexity of the designs easier to visualize and enjoy.

There's a storm tonight, so I muted my music and turned off all the lights and just sat there listening. Listening to the way my breath catches when I didn't expect that last one, the way that somehow all the city noises stop in that moment....and somehow my thoughts do too.
So I sat there listening. Because I can't do anything else. You see, that city is me. Quieted by the storm because it reminds me that I'm small. And so are my problems. But you know what? It also whispers this: "I love you." #sweeterpoetry

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Been working all morning on job-hunting related tasks {ugh} ... needed a break to cheer me up! This did the trick!! Such a gorgeous sunset this was (the same as this one).
Now I'm off to the kitchen to whip up some Chicken Tetrazzini for the old man's birthday dinner. Got some Guinness Stout chillin' and a Carrot Cake with 52 candles standing by!! I'll be visiting your photostreams while cookin'!!

Probably one of the most photographed locations in Dorset, Durdle Door.
Sat on an amazing stretch of the Jurassic Coast between Lulworth & Ringstead bay, the Door as I like to call her, is at the mercy of the sea, whilst it will most definitely out live me, eventually she will give in.

i was browsing on my old shots and saw this, i posted same composition before but different timing.. i'm a sucker of foreground details and texture so i decided to share this.. :D
