Minolta 35mm f/2.8 MC W.Rokker-HG - I had just taken a photo of light rains ending on the pier when, "Sorry son, I got to get my walk in."
11/29/09 – Day 333 of 365
Sunrise over the pond. Check out the ice! All I had was the 50mm and no tripod and this was the best I could get. I would have liked the wider angle lens! I had to flatten against a tree to get this view. There was a rowboat in the foreground that would have been a nice addition to this composition.
*Note to self: double check the camera bag!
*Ordered a tripod; a budget model. Should be here tomorrow!
I haven't done a bench shot in awhile ... so when I'm with the girls, I always try to grab a few for later! I had a lot of fun chauffeuring Rachel around San Diego and surrounding hamlets ... showing her what she could do, where she go, etc.
At sunset, our path put us near Carlsbad State Beach. We hopped up on the sea wall and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset ... and of course this bench shot! Loved the couple walking together, hand-in-hand and the fabulous sun flare! This looks much better in the lightbox!!
Happy Bench Monday!
DAY 5 - MORMON ROCKS AT SUNSET
Mormon Rocks at sunset
After enjoying another quiet morning at the camp in Mojave desert, I left for the city. However, I wasn’t returning to civilization right away. I had a bit of time, and my eyes were set on Mormon Rocks.
When I arrived at Mormon Rocks, it was still quite early. So, I drove around the area scouting a few spots. It was kind of a pain in the neck driving up and down both I-15 and the state highway getting on and off, but I eventually found some spots to catch the sunset as well as do astrophotography later on.
When the sun was dropping close to the mountain ridge line far west, I headed back out to one of the spots that I had scouted earlier. One of the cool things about Mormon Rocks is that there are so many different shapes and sizes of rock formations. They truly looked out of this world.
I loved the perfect timing that the rocks planted slanted glowed in soft light while the hills and mountains in the background all painted in vivid orange. All I had to do was just step in the frame.
Hope everyone is enjoying their post Christmas recovery. Now it's time to plan the New Year celebrations!!
Happy Thursday!
♫ Violent Femmes – Blister in the Sun ♫
Even though this is the lake, doesn't that fiery sun make you feel hot? That you are "blistering in the sun?" With a heat dome hovering over the Plains and the Midwest, everyone will be sweltering in triple digit temperatures and extreme humidity this week.
The last time we had a heat wave like this, we were camping in Upper Peninsula, Michigan. It was nice & cool up there on Lake Superior. When we came home, we discovered that all of our poor fish had died! *Many Tears* The house was an oven and smelled awful. We had forgotten to turn the A/C on (it worked back then).
Speaking of A/C, this morning I broke down and called the A/C man. We really don't want to end up like our fish!

Happy "HOT" Soundtrack Monday and Keep Cool Everyone!
I slowly strolled around the lake counterclockwise and stopped wherever an interesting sight caught my eye. And this particular sight did just that.
The colorful sculpture shouted for my attention. The pines looked like clumps of moss on sticks. And the old water plants in the foreground.
But, it turned out that this was quite challenging as a huge rock sat right at the spot where I wanted to plant my tripod. And my 24mm prime lens wasn’t helping either. First I placed it right in front of the rock. But it became obvious rather quickly that even with the flip-out screen out and tilted up, it was tricky for me to view what I was composing.
It was one of the rare moments where I found myself contorting my entire body into a ball like an armadillo. I wished there would have been another way, but when I wanted the sculpture in the dead center of the frame along with the water plants and the reflections of them in the foreground while not being cropped.
Then, when it was all ready to go after spending a good 10 minutes constantly shifting the tripod and the camera, I came back up as if the armadillo unspooled itself up and sat down on the rock. I released a huge sigh of relief and stretched my back while watching the lake.
Once the clear reflections were set in as if things came into focus, I pressed the remote shutter release before another whiff of wind would disturb the reflections.
When the sun goes slowly down on the Lofoten you get that absolutely magical light. Only for a few minutes it looked so fantastic as on the photo! So you have to be fast, see it, find a parking spot near the road, jump out of the car, find position and shoot. I shot 5 frames…this is one of them.
I think this will hang on a wall in my house…I personally love it!

The only April Fool's trick being played here is the fact that it wasn't as warm as it looks!! The title is from a song sung by Cat Stevens: "a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and is set to a traditional Gaelic tune known as "Bunessan."
♫ Morning Has Broken – As Sung by Cat Stevens ♫
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

Happy Fence Friday!!
I’m no expert, but I’ve always felt that, despite the common element in rivers, seas and oceans, riverside evenings possess a distinct magic compared to those over oceans or seas.
For instance, when a sunset is framed over a riverside, it often stirs a localized sentiments bound to specific places and lingering memories. Conversely, oceanic horizons tend to evoke a pure, existential solitude, reflecting the internal landscape of the viewer rather than the physical world around them.
Perhaps it is a flawed theory, but it is an observation distilled from witnessing how deeply these views move people across all walks of life.
ETA: Sorry this disappeared yesterday. I accidentally deleted it while deleting some other photos. Fortunately, the description I had written was still sitting open in a Word Doc!! But not so fortunate on the lens repair estimate. I was just informed that it would cost me $450. *many tears now*. Do I 'buy' a brand new one or cough up the $450? that just feels like robbery!! Thoughts anyone?
I caught a gorgeous sunrise yesterday morning on Tuesday. While setting up my tripod, I chanced to speak to a man walking his dogs. He was standing there with this fabulous goofy grin on his face as he watched the sun rise.
He told me that this was the nicest sunrise in the last two weeks and that I had picked the perfect morning to shoot it. I had to agree! It certainly was, however; it was bone chillingly cold. I was sitting amongst a jumble of giant boulders, the water washing over my boots ... when a huge chunk of ice crashed at my feet. No wonder I was freezing ... I was sitting on that sheet of ice!!
I also suffered a moment of tears. I was jogging up to the beach to catch the first sun rays, and I dropped my backpack (I really do need a padded bag). I whipped out my camera for the first shot and *gasp* -- no autofocus!! *tears begin* If anyone recalls my earlier stories, this lens (18-200mm) took a bad fall about three years ago. Had to use a vice grip to remove the shattered UV filter. But, magically it still worked.
Coincidentally, after shooting the sunrise; I was headed to the Nikon repair shop with my old Nikon D70. Jackie has been begging me to fix it so she could have a 'real' camera. Sadly, I left the lens with the repair shop too; and am waiting on an estimate. Since that lens brand new is $849 on Amazon, when do I call it a wash with this lens?
*leaving now to go mope, cry and rant & rage in a corner*
Ocean Beach just keeps gifting stories of delight as they unfold along the edge of our continent. Light and color and earth's creatures gather strategically.

I spent a day up on Mount Diablo hunting down wildflowers. Though the poppies weren't profuse like it in past years, there were certainly plenty of patches to enjoy.
Happy Saturday!
I was amazed, dumbfounded, giddy ... you name it ... to see this sunset, this dream ... unfurl right before my very eyes! This looks very nice ... unfurled in the lightbox! :-)
This sunset was unexpected, to say the least. I thank Char for taking me to her favorite spot at the Berkeley Pier. I took a multitude of shots {naturally} ... and this was 'one' of my favorites. I love how the sun is nestled in the clouds right over a tower. And it got better too: Char's Sliders Sunday Version!
Happy Sliders Sunday! I had to do a 'bit' of sliding ... the RAW image was very, very dark!

I'm not trying to rush through summer ... really; I'm not! The weather has actually been the best we've had all summer and we have really been enjoying it.
I was digging through my prodigious fence archives; doing some cleaning out and archiving; and found this lovely Autumn fence. I clearly remember the morning I took this ... the sun coming up over the lake ... and me lying on the sidewalk to get this shot! Love that glorious sun!!

The YEAR is YOURS, WhaT WILL YOU DO WITH IT?
As the new year ends, leaving all the 2015 behind, everything that happened, happened for a reason whether it`s good or a challenge; I call it all blessings after all we are all still here to celebrate the 2016. Just like a writer we will open a new book, It`s pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called opportunity and it`s fist chapter is New Year`s Day, It`s a new year, which means new beginnings, hopes, and dreams! After all life is good, a good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realize how BLESSED we are. Happy New Year to all. My year end image for all of you, we crossed our bridges everyday, the sunsets but a new dawn comes and life begins again... our stories continues.
Adventure is normal for me. I've grown up in mountains and woods, learning how to explore before I knew the meaning of the word. But you see, now I've given it my own definition.
Exploring: Wandering. Pondering. Accustomed to, but not taken for granted. Constantly new. Overwhelmingly beautiful. A part of me.
A need to act. To go. To be.

|| Spent my thanksgiving backpacking in the Patagonian wilderness for a few days. Check that one off the bucket list! It's a gorgeous world out there. ||
These past few days, I’ve been lucky enough to witness some breathtaking sunrises. Of course, I couldn’t resist capturing them and sharing them with you!

♫ Regina Spektor – Folding Chair ♫
Come and open up your folding chair next to me
My feet are buried in the sand and there’s a breeze
There’s a shadow, you can’t see my eyes
And the sea is just a wetter version of the skies
The rest of the song gets a bit crazy ... but I do love that opening verse!!
Happy Anything Monday!!
