I uploaded this to Flickr awhile ago but never posted it! Even now, when I walk about, it still looks like autumn around here. It is so ridiculously warm today (81°). I feel like I'm on another planet.

Sorry in advance to all you folk who suffered through the polar vortex. I really am envious of the snowy photos .... but not the bitter cold temps! Still no snow in the mountains around here. Never did get to take Sammy out sledding :(

Hope everyone is enjoying their Tuesday!

"I’m beginning to recognise that real happiness isn’t something large and looming on the horizon ahead, but something small, numerous and already here. The smile of someone you love. A decent breakfast. The warm sunset. Your little everyday joys all lined up in a row."

Morning light at Serón

[This is a series of photos that I took while backpacking Torres del Paine. I tried to take as many photos as possible, but it rained so much more than I had ever anticipated, so it was not possible. Itt was extremely windy, so a combination of both rain and wind made it difficult to shoot while actually hiking.]

I did not know if the wooden wagon was even in use. It was there when I arrived there from Central for the first time, and even later when I returned from Dickson after failing to go over the pass due to waist deep snow, it was still there. Well, I definitely didn’t see a single horse or a cow there.

My mind was racing. I had to compose a shot before the light faded. And the wagon had to be part of it. While completely mesmerized by the color palettes that unfolding before my eyes, I had to make sure that the shot was worth composing.

I snapped a shot, but I wasn’t sure.

And took another.

And that was it. I was already looking for the next subject that I could place in the foreground.

Without rain nothing grows, learn to embrace the storm of your life.

"This is my wish for you: comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunset to warm your heart, hugs when spirit sags, beauty for your eyes to see, friendship to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I did minimal sliding here {sharpening & levels in Snapseed}, nature slid it way more impressively than I ever could!! I polled the family for a one word description. Examples were surreal, otherworldly and Daliesque. That last word seemed to cover it best!

This is an unusual shot because of the pool of water fronting the sea. A sand replenishment operation has reshaped the beach carrying the sand down the shoreline with the in and outgoing tides. The pool of water is one result ... displaying some spectacular reflections!!!! I have had no opportunity to check out the Nikon shots ... so I give you the iPhone shot!!

I'm taking Jack back to school this morning ... will be back to check out all your sliders this evening!! Happy Sliders Sunday Folks! Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

This is another long exposure shot of the potholes in La Jolla. The raw image was very dark. I slid some light in and discovered pastel color lurking.

Happy Sliders Sunday!! Are you ready to do the 12 Days of Christmas countdown?

SANCTUARY

With the onset of the winter season the sports anglers change focus to lower Fraser tributaries like the Vedder/Chilliwack river to search for the prized winter steelhead. For many anglers, catching a steelhead is an ultimate dream, wether catching it on a fly, bait casting, spinner or centerpin is an incredible experience. These fish are classic and highly respected throughout the sport, It is the hardest fish to catch in the world, fishing or steelhead is not for everyone. You have to brave the cold and damp winter weather, spending hours in the cold, chilly weather, you have to wear layers to beat the freezing temperature, Steelhead fishing is not best-known as quantity fishery but it is absolutely renowned as a `must-try`one. I dedicate this to the strong willed sports anglers of the river of BC.

A day at the river with my fishing buddies & fellow photographers, thanks for a great day at the river,

Mix It Up

Artistic intent mixes with the city vibe - even inviting the photographer into the frame - and creates its own new look. Nice patterns and a feeling of motion add energy. Brilliant colors join light and reflection and give back new gifts of vision and a fresh story.

My friend Larry launched a new group: "The Human Element"

Recently, we had a long discussion around the idea that 'some photos just wouldn't be the same without the unique visual characteristics of the human form.' Please join his group and add your 'human element' image. We'd love it if you shared with us!

Last week, I drove to the lake to catch a sunrise. It was a beautiful sunrise. When this gentleman strolled into my frame with his long shadow, it transformed the image for me. It was boring without the 'human element.' I was saving this for a future Fence Friday but decided that this would be my first entry for the new group. And of course, it is also Wednesday, so ...

Happy Bokeh Wednesday!

An upward sweep of ICM, intentional camera movement, catches the light and color of details with its strong vertical pull. Faint horizontal patterns anchor the shot. A limited color palette keeps things simple with exposure only revealing what's necessary to make the story. It's a bit mysterious but complete enough to recognize and allows a viewer to contemplate elements in context.

Disappear in the golden sands

I like that particular bit of lyric ... seems to be at odds with this image doesn't it?

I dream of snow ... yet I also dream of golden sands ...

I'm quite sure this song is the telling of a tragic love story ...

but I like it anyway and I'm going with it.

Pebble beach at Dickson

[This is a series of photos that I took while backpacking Torres del Paine. I tried to take as many photos as possible, but it rained so much more than I had ever anticipated, so it was not possible. It was extremely windy, so a combination of both rain and wind made it difficult to shoot while actually hiking.]

This is one of the small amount of photos that I managed to take on this trip. It is unfortunate that it rained so much while I was there. Guess it is one more reason to go back to Patagonia.

This was taken at the pebble beach at Dickson where icebergs were afloat. Although I thought I seized the moment when the rain stopped, as soon as I got out there and started taking pictures, the raindrops began falling on me again. Let me remind you that the winds never stopped blowing as well. Eventually the combination of rain and winds forced to withdraw from the beach.

The sun shone spottidly in a corner of the pale sky but never persisted, mostly blotted out by the grey blanket of clouds. In the company of rain, the clouds hardly gave way to the blue skies. In spite of long hours of daylight, the rain never permitted me to take shots for the rest of the day.

A line of monks leads to the main subject bathed in soft light. Focus directs - patterns and repetition add strength. But it is his eyes that draw mine and hold.

Planet at Gerdes

Decay takes on a life of its own as rust devours metal in interesting patterns and forms. Colors excite visual and emotional sense. Perspective emphasizes the spherical form and conjures a planet in another galaxy. If you have a good imagination.

DOWN BY THE LAKE

I was only six years old when I visited Lacanau-Océan, Aquitaine, France for the first time.

Since then much has changed.

One of the things that did not change a lot is the lake of Le Moutchic, Aquitaine, France.

In low season there is still that tranquility like in the early 70s

I heard a rumor that tomorrow is the “rapture” ... the beginning of the end of days. So I thought I should post my last fence while I have the chance!! And since it is a beautiful day ... 70 degrees and blue skies; I'm heading out the door to enjoy it ... once again ... while I have the chance!! I'll be back, on the eve of this 'last day' to check out everyone's awesome fences!!

Happy Fence Friday!!

Life almost seems meaningless.

LARGE View On Black

Went to the beach for sunset on Christmas Day.

Ribbons of color and wispy clouds slid across the sky.

The beach was lined with silhouetted conversation.

Just a tad of sliding to pop the color & contrast.

Itt was extremely windy, so a combination of both rain and wind made it difficult to shoot while actually hiking.]

Once I took the first shot, I started moving around as quickly as possible before the gorgeous light disappeared. I knew it would not last long. So, I kept searching for spots where I could compose a shot. And I found this old log sitting in the grass. I did not think that it was the best object that I could have in the foreground nor that it was one of the best compositions that I could have, but it had to do it.

Thanks to the constant rain, the grass was so green. Almost lush. And I liked the fact that my camera could pick up all the details of each leaf of grass. Yes, you have to look at it in a larger size, but you’ll still get the idea.

We have Frank Gehry to thank for the outside staircase on the south side of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Happened to notice orange winter sunlight peeking through massive wooden window shutters, horizontal light that would normally be mostly obscured in a gallery space where natural light harms precious objects. Followed the light to the spiral staircase that runs down the south side of the building. Found the city highlighted in sunset gold and the reflected colours on the back wall of the AGO were spectacular!
