Each of the monks' cells at Mount Grace Priory had a walled cloister and garden. The garden and cloister are L-shaped, fitting around two walls of the cell living space. The monk left the cell only for worship with the other monks who led an otherwise solitary life. This is the reconstructed cell at Mount Grace.

...I was super-obsessed with the Banksy movie. And loved it. One of my best friends is sort of a mischievous sort of punk street artist, among other hats that he wears. Pat Riot is his tag. He’s so funny, he takes a child’s yellow sand bucket and pokes air holes in the bottom of it, and paints on it with a stencil “do not free bird.” And then he will epoxy these to phone boxes and mail boxes. He self-publishes a super-weird propaganda magazine and he’ll just wander around and place them on newsstands. He’s bringing down the system. He’s a great confederate thinker – he questions everything. He’s a great source of inspiration to me. For that reason I really love the Banksy movie, for the way it causes us to question the art scene. For me I can extrapolate that into the art scene and the fashion scene and how how popular art these days can become such a factory situation.

The imagery in these works is drawn from activity taking place in the UW Madison Microbial Sciences building. "Cell Wall" is a sculptural seating installation for the entry of the new microbial science building. At first glance, we figured dust devil. Upon closer look, we're not so sure? I've never seen a dust devil move like that (snaking, roping..). Don't miss the hail starting to fall in the top left corner (look closely for the white spots against the dark clouds).

I can assure you, this is not me doing a crap job with white balance.

The red stage lights felt a bit too red/overwhelmed the detail, so I tried to reduce red-colour saturation only on these "Cell Block Tango" shots. I think it worked fairly well.
