This is the door to Al Capones cell at Eastern State Pernitentiary in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1929, law enforcer Elliot Ness started his investigation into Capone for his involvement in Chicago. Capone had it arranged for him to be arrested and Eastern State is where he ended up for 9 months. The cell looks today as it did back then. Capone had connestions so he had full furnishings along with a desk, nice bed, living room chair, and a radio.

The "teens don't need a cell phone until they're driving or moved out" is an interesting idea, and I understand where it's coming from. Kidssurvived for years without cell phones, and they become sort of a social crutch... it's easy to become addicted to texting, which isn't best for the phone bill OR social interaction with peers. I am, however, a firm beliver in the expression "everything in moderation and nothing in excess.I'm not so uptight as to deny my child a cell phone until age sixteen, provided he/she can handle the responsibility (which includes keeping track of it, taking good care of it, and making sure they do not go over their minutes or texts each month). As long as I have that trust in each of my children, there is no need to deny them what has almost become a staple in today's teenage society. If they mess up, then they deal with the consequences: they pay for each text or minute they go over their limit, and Mom and Dad will buy them a new phone once every two years when the contract expires... if they ruin their phone before then, they pay for a new one themselves or they go without.My husband and I do set a 500 text a month limit on our kids' phones as long as we're the ones footing the bill... and believe me, that's not a popular decision among my kids, but they deal. The reason? First of all, money, but second of all, we don't want our kids to have their noses buried in their phones all the time. My daughter's friend sends over 10,000 texts a month. 10,000! That's ridiculous. We just don't want our kids to learn to place too much importence on their phone. Above all, it is just a THING, after all

empty cells in the abandoned DC prison
I didn't have a ladder, so I had to sort of point and pray.
For nearly a century, the Occoquan Workhouse and later the Lorton Reformatory served as the District of Columbia's main prison, closing in 2001. Part of it is now devoted to the arts and known as the Workhouse Arts Center.
Just finished assembling all the Cell Project kits for the Maker Faire!
We made the packaging as green as we could:
kept the packaging minimal
instead of a box, we used mulchable coffee bags!
The sticker is non-glossy paper instead of vinyl
Printed materials are minimal, and printed on recycled paper
pencil is made from recycled denim
We can't go all the way green, but we might as well make an effort to go a little greener.

These galleries are amazing and seem to demand documentation, no matter how. This guy took several versions of this shot from his cell phone. Sure seemed like the fish was checking him out. These fish appeared to be pretty curious.
Markyate Cell in the snow
In medieval times a community of Benedictine nuns was established in Markyate Cell by Christina. Her small hermitage here quite literally was her 'cell', hence the name.

Anyhoo, on the ruins of the original priory 'Markyate Cell' was built. It has had many additions over the centuries, but many parts of the original Tudor building are still intact.

Basically, legend has it that Katheryn was in an unhappy marriage, and repressed by a bullying and overbearing husband. She rebelled by using a secret stairway to escape to farm stables from where she went out into the night to become a notorious highway robber. "Stand and deliver!!!". Unfortunately, it was to prove her undoing as you'll see in the story.
