One doesn't usually see painted ceilings in Gothic churches - but apparently, traces of pigments were found on the stone during roof repairs several years ago, so the restoration was completed using similar colours.

Taken inside the Gran Hotel de Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico City.

It is the same hotel where the initial scenes of the last 007 movie were shot!!

Took this at Paolo's in Charlestown the other night. I was trying to get the texture of the tin ceiling to show better and ended up at one point with this, which I thought was kinda cool though not at all what it really looked like.

The 16th century roof of the nave at St. David's cathedral, St, David's City, Wales,

There was some building work ongoing so the interior wasn't as photogenic as it might have been, but the ceiling was untouched and impressive.

Part of the ceiling in Tewkesbury Abbey that contains an emblem of the House of York in the shape of the sun. It was put here by the House of York to celebrate victory over the House of Lancaster in Tewkesbury in the year 1471. The Abbey was quite old even then, being consecrated by the Bishop of Worcester in 1121.

The former Main Post Office was designed by the architect J. Crouwel Jr. in the style of the Amsterdam School. Construction started in 1919 and was completed in 1924. The hall of the building is impressive because of the high parabolic arches.

There are six bluestone statues in the hall. Five of these human figures represent the different parts of the world and they are accompanied by a corresponding animal, a sixth image is about trade and prosperity. The statues and ornaments are by Hendrik van den Eijnde. The two lions on the outside in front of the entrance are also his work. These were installed later and were initially not part of the design, but were made at the request of the people of Utrecht. The large clock in the hall was made by De Porceleyne Fles. The stained glass above the entrance is by Richard Roland Holst and represents the "Dutch Virgin in the garden of the provinces".

We have had a lot of fun and a good lunch with the Flickrbende. And some photography of course.
