Honduras - Root Causes of Migration
Delegation - March18-25, 2019
Tocoa Panel - Land and Water Defenders describe the situation in the fertile northern Bajo Aguán region of Honduras.
The afro-indigenous Garifuna community of the northern coastal region of Honduras spoke of their forced displacement, due to large-scale tourism development projects, from land that has been their home since 1779. They are fighting desperately to hold onto their unique culture and identity.
Today, all 44 Garifuna communities are involved in struggles to defend their land against the concessions the government is granting to tourism corporations. Four out of five now face eviction from their land.
The monument of the fatal Andrée Expedition.
Andrée and his men set out to reach the North Pole via balloon. They left Svalbard on july 11th 1897 never to return. After 2 days they landed and started a dreadful walk back. For months they walked back - shooting animals for food. The arctic winter came and left them on the island of Kvitöya where they died. 33 years later their bodies where discovered by a Norwegian expedition. The real cause of death is unknown since the bodies were cremated upon return to Sweden.

This was taken for my independent study photo class. Our project was Cause and Effect. I like it, i just wish i could have shot it with digital.
The cause would be smoking, and the effect would be death. I tried to capture it in one photo, I also wanted to have the cigarette lit but my friend doesn't smoke and refused.
10.04.2009 // Day 43
Another full day, featuring nursery training, giving out school uniforms and baby clothes at Shree Krishna Primary School, and some more painting at Chandra Surya Primary School.
When we got back in the evening, I noticed a pain/itch on my leg, and pulled back my trouser leg to reveal an attractive looking blister.
That night, I was awesomely ill (an allergic reaction, apparently), and spent pretty much the entirity of the next day laying in bed. (What it looked like a bit later.)
The interior of a forge and the snow outside. H. Lefort
She deserves this stereo from H.Lefort, causes a very big imbalance in intensity between L and R. Part of a series with a couple or several blacksmiths are at work while outside, it is snowing and passing various people, some of whom, like here, could have used a little warmth with a baby...
By reading the establishment's sign, everyone under the snow is warned:
Blacksmith’s name: “PASBEAU” (Not handsome)
is he staying? No “LOGE A PIED” (Lodge on foot).
So stay on the sidewalk and still “Shoe your horses”…
In other words, don't disturb us while we're working and go on your way.
Nice big bastards! Lefort was launching into the social sector?
Note that almost all of these characters portrayed often come from the simple people.

Print probably either by Paul Duverdun or the Gaudins from 1864, date of sale of the Lefort collection and his end of career as a photographer returning to producing plates (2000*) in diorama for his eidoscope* which he had deposited in 1855 * with a single eyeglass.

One of those old Greek thinker guys said, (and I paraphrase) that athletics only causes a man to become barbaric, and art only causes a man to become too effeminate.
That knowledge allows society to counterbalance such tendencies. For example, it is always helpful to make the name of an otherwise ordinary, rough-hewn, diesel-smelling, testosterone-soaked truckstop possessive by using the rather more friendly, kindly, welcoming, mature, and dare I say(?), effeminate valentine cartoon heart rather than the old-fashioned, impersonal, grammatically boring, barbaric, male-centric apostrophe.
I really don't understand this. It seems to me that the word "apostrophe" itself is somewhat effeminate, if not downright, seductive.
Each time I scratch an apostrophe, it is not Aristotle or Plato, or even Pitgor, that I think of, but rather Aphrodite, or Persephone, and occasionally Aristophones. I make it a point never to think of Mephistopheles.
I'm telling you grammar is a slippery slope. We'd all be better off if we used cartoon hearts for all forms of punctuation, including but not limited to possession, exclamation, dotted i, umlaut, heartcetera.
For sure, when i need to be dotted, i'd prefer it be a cartoon heart.
The Propylaea or gateway to the Acropolis. Greek nationals are allowed free access to these places whereas tourists have to pay. This seemed to be causing chaos on the day of our visit.

Stories of Resistance: Root Causes of Migration in Honduras
A Report back
May 5, 2019
Buena Vista United Methodist Church, Alameda, California
____
On March 18-25, a delegation of nearly 75 faith leaders and immigrant justice advocates, mostly from the United States, and several joining from South America, traveled to Honduras to meet with grassroots and religious partners in order to more deeply understand the root causes of migration that have spurred thousands to flee Honduras.
The international, interfaith delegation met with organizations working and advocating for the rights of migrants and explored factors that are forcing migrants to flee, including: violence, environmental degradation, drug cartels, organized crime, corrupt security forces, and impunity for ongoing human rights violations.
Reverend Deborah Lee from Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity along with a panel of delegates will share inspiring images and stories of resistance from Honduran community partners in their defense of land and life, and discuss how we can support their resistance.

I know this is a horrible quality shot, it's indoors at high ISO with a point-n-shoot, without a flash, but that's not the point ... the photo tells a story. A sad story, an American story ... but a story all the same. We are a country that is so rich and lazy that we eat donuts, get fat and then put motors on our chairs so we do not need to even stand and walk.
Imagine trying to explain this to someone from another planet ... or even someone from another country; "Yah, so we feed ourselves so much that eventually some of use need motorized chairs to get around ,,, no, we are not crippled, we just like to eat more than we like to walk"
