.....be careful what you touch.
The lime green flower of a Euphorbia Robbiae. It can be a skin irritant. Recently whilst trying to photograph some crocus next to this I leaned on my fist low to the ground and mmust have put it on a broken small euphorbia stem. Shortly afterwards my hand began to burn like ant bites all down my fingers and a welt formed across my knuckles. It took a while to realise what had caused it because Magoo doesn't see where he puts his hands. Better that than a fox plop I suppose...Squich! Oh no!! :^)
(I once put my hand in someone's pudding in a restaurant! LOL )
A little while ago I put up a photo of the Euphorbia bracts forming, you can now see above how the bracts have stood up and opened to the flowers. The photo is here...

I did not take it lightly that I had the opportunity to photograph the most famous Zamrock band of the 1970s, WITCH or We Intend to Cause Havoc. I am grateful I had a chance to see these greats play in the flesh in my own city. Here's the history of the band:

In the early 1970's, the development of I-95 and competition from large-scale attractions caused attendance to decline. By 1976 the Gardens were forced to close, and the property was sold and zoned for development. All but 18 acres were developed into condominiums while the remaining land lay dormant for twenty years. In 1994, the Indian River Land Trust launched a fund- raising campaign and successfully purchased the property. An additional $9 million was raised to purchase, stabilize and restore the Garden, and in November 2001 a formal dedication ceremony was held for McKee Botanical Garden.

The spotted cucumber beetle or southern corn rootworm ( Diabrotica undecimpunctata howardi Barber) is a species of cucumber beetle that is native to North America. Length is approx. .25in ( 0.6350cm). The species can be a major agricultural pest insect in North America. Spotted cucumber beetles cause damage to crops in the larval and adult stages of their life cycle. In the adult stage the beetles cause damage by eating the flowers, leaves, stems, and fruits of the plant. The beetles can also spread diseases such as bacterial wilt and mosaic virus.

But as autumn approaches, certain influences both inside and outside the plant cause the chlorophylls to be replaced at a slower rate than they are being used up. During this period, with the total supply of chlorophylls gradually dwindling, the "masking" effect slowly fades away. Then other pigments that have been present (along with the chlorophylls) in the cells all during the leaf's life begin to show through. These are carotenoids they give us colorations of yellow, brown, orange, and the many hues in between.
The reds, the purples, and their blended combinations that decorate autumn foliage come from another group of pigments in the cells called anthocyanins. These pigments are not present in the leaf throughout the growing season as are the carotenoids. They develop in late summer in the sap of the cells of the leaf, and this development is the result of complex interactions of many influences - both inside-and outside the plant. Their formation depends on the breakdown of sugars in the presence of bright light as the level of a certain chemical (phosphate) in the leaf is reduced.
But in the fall, phosphate, along with the other chemicals and nutrients, moves out of the leaf into the stem of the plant. When this happens, the sugar-breakdown process changes, leading to the production of anthocyanin pigments. The brighter the light during this period, the greater the production of anthocyanins and the more brilliant the resulting color display that we see. When the days of autumn are bright and cool, and the nights are chilly but not freezing, the brightest colorations usually develop.

Snowy and cold here today. Not as cold and snowy as some places I know but enough to cause major disruption.
Not that it takes much. Not here.
But as I can’t do very much else it gives me time for Flickr Time to post another image.

Just because we have to be in Lockdown doesn't mean we can't party, in whatever way we choose, even if we're worlds apart from each other.
2020 was pretty wild, some would even call it crappy... you've all been here for me in one way or another, always lifting my spirits and checking in.
I've made some great new friends, and got reacquainted with some old ones, some of you aren't here, either I was way too shy to ask for a collaboration or didn't catch you online...
If it was up to me and I'd planned further ahead this gallery would be crashing ;).
We'll get through this together in our own way and look forward to 2021 the next chapter <3

Our home is on the very edge of our small town and this view is just a couple of blocks away.
when I saw this scene, I rushed home to grab a camera hoping there would be enough light to capture the scene. There was quite a bit of haze caused by the dust of the harvesting and wildfire smoke coming in from the western part of the country which probably intensified the sunset colors.
In a small town like ours everyone knows everyone and news spreads fast. I learned the next morning at the coffee shop that this field yielded poorly because of the severely dry growing season.

Bird photography sounds peaceful. You picture me quietly communing with nature, sipping coffee while majestic creatures flutter by, posing politely like they’re in a Disney movie. That’s a lie. The truth involves hauling lawn chairs, tripods, and a camera bag that weighs more than a third grader across the desert before sunrise—all to sit motionless next to a glorified livestock trough filled with water I wouldn’t let my enemies drink.
This cattle tank, which I have gentrified into a “desert oasis” (by tossing in a stick), is now a fine-dining establishment for birds. The stick is important. I found it on the ground, which makes it natural, and I chose one with bark and lichen because birds don’t like muddy feet—and I like a pretty perch.
Birds don’t just fly in, though. First, they land about twenty-five feet away in what I call the staging area, where they scope things out and decide if it’s safe to drink. Just as I know birds come here for water, they know hawks come here for birds. If it seems risky, they vanish into the brush to post angry tweets about predator privilege.
This time, an American Robin decided to play along. He glided down to the branch, dipped his beak into the water, then raised his head to swallow—because robins, like most birds, can’t gulp. They rely on gravity to get the water down. No swallow muscles. No peristalsis. Just tip and pray.
As he tilted his head back, water spilled from his beak. I fired off a burst of photos. In this frame, he’s in perfect profile, water spilling from his bill, with a few droplets stopped in mid-air and a few reached the surface, sending delicate ripples across the pond.
His reflection was beautiful and haunting, like a bird pondering the mysteries of hydration—or maybe just wondering why some guy shoved a branch in his drinking fountain.
In the desert, water is liquid gold. To birds, cattle tanks are survival. To me, they’re proof that lugging heavy gear into the wilderness to photograph a robin mid-sip is a perfectly reasonable way to spend retirement.
Especially if you're trying to avoid housework.
