I stepped out of the house one day,

was not in a good mood

then I looked up and saw the blue sky

strewn with cotton candy clouds

and the most vivid light ...

wow, my bad mood floated away ...

....to waste anything so precious as sunshine by staying in the house.

Photographed at the Maine Wildlife Park. The park is home to over 30 species of Maine wildlife that cannot be returned to their natural habitats. Some are there because they were injured or orphaned, and others because they are human dependent – raised, sometimes illegally, in captivity.

Canon FD 300mm F4 L. Shot was taken through the plexiglass wall of the enclosure.

When I first arrived at the park, this animal was curled up in a ball, sound asleep in a dark part of its enclosure. I came back several times, and on one of those occasions it had moved to a sunny spot and was awake.

They are magnificent and rare animals. In 30+ years living and hiking in Maine, I have never seen one in the wild. It was a real treat to spend some time observing and photographing this one.

Cannot beat a glorious summers day in England

Cannot G-III QL17, 40mm 1.7 Canon lens, Fomapan 100, Caffenol CL, 30 minutes, semi-stand

I was up early this morning hoping for a little golden hour light once the sun rose to get some much needed practice in before June, but as the sky became brighter I realized my hopes for any morning golden light across the fields was not going to happen. I began packing my camera away when I noticed a bright orange spot on the horizon. And as much as I have moved away from chasing sunrise/sunset shots I still cannot resist pointing the camera at a dramatic sky and snapping a few frames.

**Photographer Critique: Is this a wall worthy image, probably not. But for some reason it soothes my creative soul. I suppose seeing the morning colors like this just brings a inner warmth to me. I guess it puts my day into a good mood. ;-)

You Have to Take in the Complete Whole

For a tall tree cannot be without the lichen or tiny unseen bugs

Without the tree roots stretching across the ground and causing me to fall,

The trees wouldn't have the support in the reach to the skies

For it is only in looking down that we begin to appreciate the

grandeur when we look up.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one early afternoon in Hot Springs National Park while walking the Sunset Trail. This was a section of forest displaying the colors of Autumn in the tree leaves all around. This was walking along West Mountain with a view looking to the northeast.

I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 where I added a Polarization and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

It really was a sunny, gorgeous day however, this shot was taken in the woods :O).

Autumn is beginning!

September 2009.

It has been a whole month now since the last drop of rain on and around my city, Madina or Medina as it is known.

I cannot wait for the next time it rains again.

it is expected that we are going to have very cold weather the coming days. I love cold weather more than hot weather. Don't we all!?

Any way, my car is ready and loaded with everything I need for my picnics around Madina.

I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight

I need somebody and always

This sick, strange darkness

Comes creeping on so haunting everytime

And as I stared I counted the webs from all the spiders

Catching things and eating their insides

Like indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason

Will you come home and stop this pain tonight?

Stop this pain tonight"

Although we already had feeders of seed out and a holder of fat-balls, I took pity today on the pair of robins who frequent our garden.

I crumbled up a fat-ball and put it on the patio table. This little robin soon came but spent quite a few minutes just standing and looking about before he dared to start eating.

The Moon Cannot Be Stolen

A Zen Master lived the simplest kind of life in a little hut at the foot of a mountain. One evening, while he was away, a thief sneaked into the hut only to find there was nothing in it to steal.

The Zen Master returned and found him. "You have come a long way to visit me," he told the prowler, "and you should not return empty handed. Please take my clothes as a gift." The thief was bewildered, but he took the clothes and ran away.

The Master sat naked, watching the moon. "Poor fellow," he mused, " I wish I could give him this beautiful moon."

Lost in darkness, shadows deep,

Bound by fury I cannot speak.

Tongue tied tight, words betray,

All the thoughts I’d need to say.

Anger fierce, a blinding light,

Swallows reason, blocks my sight.

Stumbling here, without control,

As silence buries heart and soul.

Yet beneath this heavy haze,

A spark remains, a quiet blaze.

Though bound in silence, fire seethes,

Yearning for the voice it needs.

In time, the dark may come undone,

And words will find me, one by one.

15 ‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine-grower. 2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes* to make it bear more fruit. 3 You have already been cleansed* by the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become* my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.

You cannot walk among the stones, as in the old days.... But this also makes for better atmospheric photos, as well as protecting the stones themselves.

from Wikipedia

"Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in Wiltshire, England, about 2 miles (3 km) west of Amesbury and 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is the remains of a ring of standing stones set within earthworks. It is in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.

Archaeologists believe it was built anywhere from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. Radiocarbon dating in 2008 suggested that the first stones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC,whilst another theory suggests that bluestones may have been raised at the site as early as 3000 BC.

The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. The site and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986 in a co-listing with Avebury Henge. It is a national legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument. Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage, while the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust

Archaeological evidence found by the Stonehenge Riverside Project in 2008 indicates that Stonehenge could have been a burial ground from its earliest beginnings. The dating of cremated remains found on the site indicate that deposits contain human bone from as early as 3000 BC, when the ditch and bank were first dug. Such deposits continued at Stonehenge for at least another 500 years."

Parting gift to my dear quokka friend. They cannot reach eucalyptus leaves as the lower branches of tree are above their heads, so I picked a leaf and offered it to this grateful little quokka. How gentle are they? Well the first panel had the quokka grab the leaf in the middle, he sensed his teeth were too close to my fingers, so he opened his mouth again (panel 2) to show his teeth position and moved his head back until he felt the end of the leaf . He closed his mouth (panel 3) once he felt he was far enough away then in 4th panel indicated he was ready for me to let go of the leaf.. Last panel a very contented quokka with the famous quokka smile.
