This is my momma! Tonight was her 40th class reunion... I can't believe it. She is a three-time cancer survivor (Ovarian, breast, and skin) who, after getting her hair back, has had very little to do with it. I offered to "do it" for her before she left for class pictures...she looked so pretty. I think she felt pretty good when she left my house and that makes me feel good! =)
The Pacific Northwest is known for its excellent glass artistry, but I thought of a humble but popular little product that is widely adored in these parts. Seattle's own "glassybaby" studio in the Madrona neighborhood produces these useful, strong and beautiful creations with a purpose: to "lift bad moods and loneliness. . .a metaphore to symbolize hope. . ." Their designer, Lee Rhodes, is a three time cancer survivor and donates 10% of specific color's sales through her goodwill program to benefit local and national organizations contributing to cancer patient care and cancer research. People use them for dringking glasses and vases, but my favorite use is as a small tealight votive. When several are lit in a room, it is very magical.

Part of my cancer series.
When I was going through treatment there was a tv show called Survivor, I used to wonder what exactly are they surviving?
If your interested in light painting check out this new light painting group Shining Light on Cancer. Thanks.
The woman on the left is a former patient of our medical oncologist, standing on the right. She was diagnosed with cancer many years ago, and would likely not have survived if the doctor had not gone the extra mile for her diagnosis and treatment. Since then, she comes back every year on the doctor's birthday and brings cake for the entire clinical staff.
It was truly wonderful to see them talking. It is moments like this that make it worth the stress of being in the medical field.
This is a picture of my daughter when she was 3. The scar across her belly was where the doctors took her kidney and a tumor out. The Indiana Wish Foundation granted her wish of swimming in a giant pool.... They sent us to Florida to swim in the ocean, and gave us tickets to Disney World. (When she was going through chemotherapy she could not take baths or swim because of her central line....)
With Jocelyn and Sylviane Towne. Sylviane has and continues to help me with her incredible knowledge of healing herbs and homeopathy. She and her daughter Jocelyn have been the angels on whose wings have helped to carry me through. They are beautiful deeply within and without.
Part of the cancer series. These didn't come out as good as I would have liked. I wanted to try the projection in a different location.
It's something to experiment with.
I'm thinking of creating a Light Painting charity group, check out the discussion on Light Junkies.

This was on our day trip to San Diego. Saralinda is a two year survivor of stage three breast cancer.
.....than my Zooie. He continues to do well. He's had a couple small issues that I've been trying to deal with "naturally". Zooie's been having some problems with allergies. He has very raw "armpits" on both his front and back legs. I've been washing his skin with antibacterial soap and then treating the areas with teatree oil and aloe. Unfortunately, I've been doing this for the last month and things aren't improving so I finally gave in and put Zooie on antibiotics. I've been givng him probiotic yogurt along with the antibiotics so I hope that helps keep his digestive system normal.
I'd appreciate any suggestions you have for treating skin allergies. Should I consider changing his food? He is eating Blue Wilderness formula with 40% protein, plus organic cottage cheese and flaxseed oil and two meaty bones a week. Do you give your dog any supplements when they are on antibiotics to combat the imbalance that results in their g.i. tract?
It seems the allergies come in the winter months and they also seem to be getting worse every year. Poor, itchy guy needs some help.
Ybor City was established in the 1880's consisting of mostly immigrants from Cuba, Spain, Italy & more. Many of these migrants worked in cigar factories rolling millions of cigars for decades.
Ybor City is unique.

I'm wondering what other symbols I can use other than my pill bottles that might be more hopeful, any suggestions?
Check out this new group Shedding Light on Cancer. If your interested in light painting or in trying to improve the lives of those with cancer check out the site. Thanks.
It's not about being fearless but overcoming fear. My light writing is sloppy. I got the idea for this from a Green Lantern graphic novel.

Since Zooie can't go for his walks, he is getting extra bully sticks to keep him busy. We are three weeks into the six week rest period. Thank goodness he's not a very active dog. He is content to lay around the house, as long as I'm nearby.
I continue to change the dressing on his foot every three days. The ulcer on his toe (from the splint rubbing on it) is healing slowly. Hopefully, the break is healing too.
The weather here is just now turning cooler. We had a gorgeous day in the 70's F. I hated not being able to take Zooie on a walk today. We are both missing our walk time together during this beautiful Carolina autumn.
I met my friend, Kristy, in fourth grade. She has always been such a wonderful, lovely, funny and rambunctious girl and an amazing friend. When we were in our mid-twenties, Kristy found a lump in her breast. She has been through a couple bouts of cancer and remission, chemo, a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery....all before the age of thirty. Yet, you would never see her without a smile on her face. She is a survivor and an inspiration to everyone that meets her.

All the survivors were given pink balloons and I guess these got away.

Get in on the fun and ribbon (stand in the shape of a ribbon to show support for cancer fighters)!
1. Donate $1 to your favorite cancer org (we suggest MyLifeLine.org)
2. Strike a ribboning pose (hands circled over your head, stance wide) and share it with your friends with the hashtag #ribboning. Put your state on the map! info.mylifeline.org/ribboning
My friend Carol stands on the sidewalk in front of Akron Glass Works. She is visiting from Georgia and celebrating three years of being cancer free. She's a survivor!
