As part of Exercise Mercure Hill Top, members of the 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade (5GBMC) Headquarters Squadron Signal Group received helicopter induction training that was designed to test their ability to deploy their staff and a radio rebroadcast (RRB) into a wooded area. This training given by the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment began with a practical insertion of the headquarters staff. Subsequently, equipment, and the RRB was deployed by slinging under a Royal Canadian Air Force CH 146 Griffon helicopter from 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

Dans le cadre de l’exercice Mercure Hill Top, les membres du Quartier Général de l’Escadron des transmissions du 5 Groupe-Brigade Mécanisée du Canada (5GBMC) ont reçu une formation d’insertion héliportée qui visait à tester leur capacité à déployer leur personnel ainsi qu’un poste de retransmission automatique (PRA) en secteur boisé. Cet entrainement donné par le 2e Bataillon Royal 22e Régiment débutait par des pratiques d’insertion en rappel afin de déployer efficacement le personnel, par la suite, l’équipement du PRA était déployé par élingage à l’aide d’un CH 146 Griffon du 430e Escadron tactique d’hélicoptères.

Between the 4th and the 19th of September, eleven (4 amputees and 7 able bodies) injured soldiers from the Canadian Forces and the British Armed Forces kayaked 465 miles down the Yukon River between Whitehorse and Dawson City with the Pilgrim Bandits Charity.
The Pilgrim Bandits extreme expeditions are designed to push men and women from the military and emergency services to the absolute limit. Having sustained horrendous injuries either in the line of duty or during the time of their service in some other capacity, these challenges rebuild confidence and self-esteem, by requiring participants to use a huge range of professional skills gained in service.
BC Conservation Officer Craig McCulloch assisted the veterans on the entire duration of the trip. Conservation Officer Jon Paquin assisted the veterans on the last week of the voyage. A huge thank you to Officers McCulloch and Paquin on a job well done.

The Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Canadian Regiment, Prince Philip, dropped into Toronto to present the 3rd Battalion with their Regimental Colours. A ceremonial flag that carries the battle honours of the Regiment. The old Colours had simply become too worn and damaged and needed replacement. Before the parade/ceremony the Prince arrived at Queens Park to witness a number of soldiering demonstrations, snipers, weapons, soldiers rapelling down buildings and a parachute jump were all part of the show - and that was before the ceremony. The 91-year Prince seemed to try and engage with as many of the soldiers as possible, easily switching between seriousness to a quick laugh/smile with the troops. In this capture he's noticed the unusual sights/scope on the carbine.

Traffic at the streets of Kandahar City
A Canadian Armoured Heavy Support Vehicle System drives through Kandahar City, Afghanistan, on route to a forward installation in the Panjwa’i District to deliver supplies. The vehicle stands out next to the small motorcycles and bikes that dominate the streets of Kandahar City.
Joint Task Force Afghanistan is providing support to Afghan security forces, enabling them to build and sustain a secure environment in which civilian leadership and government representatives will be able to – through district-level meeting and tribal shuras – implement governance.
Operation ATHENA is Canada’s participation in the International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan. Focused on Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan since the fall of 2005, Op ATHENA has one over-arching objective: to leave Afghanistan to Afghans, in a country that is better governed, more peaceful and more secure.

L’opération Athena constitue la participation du Canada à la Force internationale d’assistance à la sécurité (FIAS) en Afghanistan. Concentrée dans la province de Kandahar, dans le sud de l’Afghanistan, depuis l’automne 2005, l’opération Athena poursuit un objectif essentiel : laisser l’Afghanistan aux Afghans et en faire un pays mieux gouverné, plus paisible et plus sûr.

Residents of flooded areas thank CF members for their hard work
Residents thank members from 2nd Battalion, Royal 22 Regiment, from Valcartier, Quebec, for their hard work as the CF members enter the Light Armoured Vehicle III (LAV III) and head back to get more sandbags for other homes.
Operation LOTUS(E) 1-11 is the Canadian Forces (CF) joint response led by Canada Command and conducted through Joint Task Force East (JTFE) to the floods in Montérégie, Québec. The domestic humanitarian relief mission incorporates Canadian Forces Army, Navy and Air Force assets to deliver much needed assistance to communities affected by these floods.
In coordination with the Federal Government of Canada and the Provincial Government of Québec, approximately 550 members from the Land Domestic Task Force, based in Valcartier, along with approximately 100 reservists from the Territorial Battle Group, based in Montreal, are deployed in the affected areas. They are engaged in multiple tasks, including: the provision of planning and coordination assistance; provision of support to preserve essential municipal infrastructure, essential access routes and access to residential areas; assistance in the voluntary evacuation of civilians; and, provision of essential logistical and material support.

Maya sat in Captain Sarah Dallaire's seat while Canada's second female Snowbird pilot explained how she looks over her right shoulder to stay in formation with the other iconic planes. Growing up in Quebec City, Dallaire said there were no big events like Girls Fly Too. Instead, she attended all the air shows with her family. "I was always looking up," she said. "And now I can have that view looking down and it's the best in the world." This weekend, Dallaire is helping girls in Abbotsford see that they can fly with her if they choose.
Between the 4th and the 19th of September, eleven (4 amputees and 7 able bodies) injured soldiers from the Canadian Forces and the British Armed Forces kayaked 465 miles down the Yukon River between Whitehorse and Dawson City with the Pilgrim Bandits Charity.
The Pilgrim Bandits extreme expeditions are designed to push men and women from the military and emergency services to the absolute limit. Having sustained horrendous injuries either in the line of duty or during the time of their service in some other capacity, these challenges rebuild confidence and self-esteem, by requiring participants to use a huge range of professional skills gained in service.
BC Conservation Officer Craig McCulloch assisted the veterans on the entire duration of the trip. Conservation Officer Jon Paquin assisted the veterans on the last week of the voyage. A huge thank you to Officers McCulloch and Paquin on a job well done.

The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence, and the Honourable Beverly Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, join General Walter Natyncyk, Chief of the Defence Staff and Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Bob Cléroux, Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer, to meet the troops at Kandahar Air Field and several Forward Operating Bases in Afghanistan on December 24th and 25th, 2010. Accompanying the Minister was Hockey Night in Canada personality, Don Cherry, Tim Hortons President and CEO, Don Schroeder, and entertainers Jimmy Mac and Dany St-Arnaud.
Operation ATHENA is Canada’s participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. Focused on Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan since the fall of 2005, Op ATHENA has one over-arching objective: to leave Afghanistan to Afghans.

Basée depuis l’automne 2005 dans la province de Kandahar dans le sud de l’Afghanistan, l’Op Athena a un objectif primordial, celui de confier aux Afghans un pays mieux gouverné, plus pacifique et plus sécuritaire.

Aizkavēšanas un aizsardzības operācijā, kas mācību “Namejs” laikā 27.augustā norisinājās Vecumnieku novadā, bija iesaistīta Sauszemes spēku Mehanizētā kājnieku brigāde, Zemessardzes 1.Rīgas brigāde un Kanādas vadītā daudznacionālā kaujas grupa. Nosacītais pretinieks – Čehijas un Polijas bruņoto spēku karavīri ar kaujas tehniku un atbalsta ieročiem.
Vecumniekos karavīri un zemessargi bija izvērsušies divos objektos un to aizstāvība bija vienību galvenais uzdevums. Uzbrukumu sākotnēji aizkavēja Mehanizētās kājnieku brigādes 1.mehanizētais kājnieku bataljons. Pēc tam objektu aizsardzību veic Studentu bataljona kaujas grupa kopā ar Kanādas vadīto daudznacionālo kaujas grupu.
Mācības apmeklēja, ar brigāžu komandieriem un plānotājiem tikās arī aizsardzības ministrs Raimonds Bergmanis un Nacionālo bruņoto spēku komandieris ģenerālleitnants Leonīds Kalniņš.

On August 27, 2018 Latvian Land Forces Mechanized Infantry brigade, National Guard 1st Riga brigade and Canadien led eFP battlegroup Latvia personnel conducted delay and defence operations in Vecumnieki region, Latvia during military exercise “Namejs 2018”. The opposing force was soldiers from Polish Armed Forces and Czech Armed Forces.

CAF 130313 - Lockheed CC-130E Hercules - Canadian Armed Forces

The Museum’s CC-130 Lockheed Hercules is a Model E for heavy transport. Originally with the USAF, the aircraft entered service with the RCAF on May 7, 1965. From 1965 until May 27, 1970, it served with 435 Squadron at CFB Edmonton (Namao), Alberta and was then transferred to 413 Squadron in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Herc 313 flew in service for the last time on March 10, 2010. It was taken out of use on April 1 and entered the Flyable Storage Program at CFB Trenton, where it was used for loadmaster (MAMS) training until it was retired for good in June of 2010.

Facine protects troops during crossing of obstacles
A Badger Armoured Engineering Vehicle from the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group, lifts facine from the back of an Armoured Heavy Support Vehicle System during recent operations in the volatile Panjwa’i and Zhari Districts of Kandahar Province. Facine is used in aiding the crossing of obstacles that would otherwise be impossible or dangerous to cross.
In close cooperation with Afghan National Security Forces, 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group provides security by conducting counter-insurgency operations throughout Panjwa’i District located south-west of Kandahar City. The Battle Group conducts partnered operations with the 2nd Kandak of the 1st Brigade, 205 Corps of the Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police and the Panjwa’i District Governor in order to advance governance, reconstruction and security in the area.
Operation ATHENA is Canada’s participation in the International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan. Un engin blindé du génie Badger du groupement tactique du 1er Bataillon, The Royal Canadian Regiment, hisse des fascines à l’arrière d’un véhicule de soutien blindé lourd lors d’opérations récentes dans les districts instables de Panjwayi et de Zhari, dans la province de Kandahar. Les fascines servent à traverser des endroits qui seraient autrement impossibles ou dangereux à traverser.
En étroite collaboration avec les Forces de sécurité nationale afghanes, le groupement tactique du 1er Bataillon, The Royal Canadian Regiment, assure la sécurité en menant des opérations de contre-insurrection un peu partout dans le district de Panjwayi, au sud-ouest de la ville de Kandahar. Le groupement tactique mène des opérations en partenariat avec le 2e Kandak de la 1re Brigade, le 205e Corps de l’Armée nationale afghane, la Police nationale afghane et le gouverneur du district de Panjwayi afin d’améliorer la gouvernance, la reconstruction et la sécurité dans le secteur.
L’opération Athena constitue la participation du Canada à la Force internationale d’assistance à la sécurité (FIAS) en Afghanistan. Concentrée dans la province de Kandahar, dans le sud de l’Afghanistan, depuis l’automne 2005, l’opération Athena poursuit un objectif essentiel : laisser l’Afghanistan aux Afghans et en faire un pays mieux gouverné, plus paisible et plus sûr.
